Never Seen Anything as Unprofessional and Customer Unfriendly Like Centrecom

On 06.07.2023 i have placed an order for an iPhone with Centrecom. 10.07.2023 they shipped the phone out and 13.07.2023 Australia post claims it was delivered. When i got home there was no parcel anywhere. To my big surprise i had to realize that Centrecom shipped out a $2500 phone without signature on delivery. The postie chucked it close to the front door and by the time i got home someone stole it.

17.07.2023 after checking with all neighbors if it was maybe dropped off at their place i contacted Australia post. Within an hour i got an response saying "XXX, our apologies that this item was left in an unsafe place. The driver should have left the parcel in a safe place without public view, it would have been out of sight and not left totally visible to the street. I am deeming this item lost in transit due to the unsafe delivery location". It took auspost literally less than an hour to come up with the results of the investigation.

Same day i contacted centrecom and received as response "Thank you for contacting us. After checking your order was delivered and it was put on a safe place. Please see attached proof of delivery." How they knew that it was a safe location i still wonder. Australia post says the opposite. I objected that and said that i already contacted auspost and that they deem the parcel as lost in transit.

Response was "We will lodge an investigation with Auspost and our account manager there. PLEASE NOTE that Auspost investigations can generally take up to 7 business days, we have no influence to expedite their process". As someone who has a business account with auspost i know that this never takes 7 business days, maybe one or two tops.

20.07.2023 i emailed centrecom again asking about an update. No response.
21.07.2023 another email, and of course no reply.

I am leaving next week for my holidays and wondering if there is anything i can do to get them to move a bit faster. It is irresponsible to send an item worth $2500 without signature on delivery. Australia post has already accepted responsibility for the loss, this has been forwarded to centrecom and they have also received the case number. Something that should take a couple of hours, if even that, is taking now ages because centrecom simply doesn't give a shit about their customers.

                              • @Rukiata: Can achieve that easily through the API - yes. :)

    1. Feel sorry for you.

    2. attempt charge back

    3. Me - never buying anything anymore from centrecom

    4. Centrecom - if listening, this will leave a dent in your sales. OZB never forgets

    • He can not charge back.

      He paid by wire.

‘Ozbargain’ seems pretty divided on this one.

For what it's worth. I have figured out who has stolen the phone. It was a teenager that goes to the same school as one of my kids.

While I still haven't received the phone I will find a solution with the parents of the teenager.

While Australia post was fair and tried to find a solution and help CC was nothing but not interested in any kind of support. We can now debate if it was their or auspost fault to leave the phone the way they did, but this would not help anyone here. CC at the end of the day even refused to work together with Australia post to cover any losses that Australia post would have done.

I will think twice if I will order items from them again and maybe you should too.

    • +2

Interesting, how did you know it was that teenager?

      • -2

He lives in the same area. I managed to find a neighbour which has CCTV installed and who let me watch it. He can't be seen taking the parcel but he can be seen walking with it. After confronting him in front of his parents he admitted it.

        • +1

Oh man, if only you could have checked this earlier, after all you had checked with all your neighbours on the 17th of July

13.07.2023 Australia post claims it was delivered

15 days is a long time, its probably sold. Best to get CC to lock it?

    • You mentioned you would "Absolutely" be willing to make a formal police report and provide the report to CentreCom.

Are you still going to do this?

      • It might also help Aus Post if you provide them with the Police Report - hopefully a formal report will be taken seriously and better encourage them to improve their delivery processes and to reduce theft.

      • +3

I bet he always knew where the phone was, hence he questioned why CC even has an ability of blocking the device with a police report. He saw a parcel that he could easily claim to be 'stolen' and got AusPost to admit it, hoping that CC will play along to take an advantage of the situation.

        • +5

That much is abundantly clear, he thought posting @ OZB would lend weight to the story. This is now just total and utter BS.

        • Certainly seems that way, and seems like the OP isn't as "good" as they try and make themselves appear.
More and more information keeps coming out yet people still defend the OP.

      • -1

If his parents don't fix the issue, yes.

        • +2

Why is it on his parents to fix??!? I thought this was CC’s fault. Oops I mean Australia Post’s

          /s

    • +1

Hey CentreCom - have you locked the phone yet?
This might encourage the teenager to decide to return it rather than sell it.

      • +1

Blocking an IMEI requires a police report (this may be outdated - was the case when I worked for Vodafone) which OP never provided by the looks of it.

    • +10

As far as I know the team here worked with Australia Post - AP won't cover it, nothing can do. Because you say it (CC didn't work with AP to resolve) doesn't make it true. The whole "teenager" story makes me laugh - you've worked out who has stolen it now faced with the information that the phone will be locked. I'm calling bullshit now, as suspected all along. You had a go - it didn't work out, move on mate.

    • +2

Hmmmm how surprising, just as CC rep confirmed they could get the phone locked. Which OP wasnt happy with surprisingly!

Why you would not want a stolen device locked is beyond me. Who wants a 'thief' to benefit from their stolen device?

Suddenly OP knows who has it.
OP, you should think twice about your delivery/pickup options for items you purchase.

      Good job CC.

    • +1

Did you try scam CC?? to get money back and phone

        • +1

HUH no im asking OP this.
because he somehow found the phone and donst want it blocked.

    • +1

      Suspicious!

Questions CC blocking the imei. Magically knows where it is! Has a history of packages going missing. Wtaf

  • +3

@OP - Lets get the police involved, make a report, give them this "teenagers" name. This will also show your genuine intent, otherwise I'd call for you to remove your reviews and posts slandering Centre Com in order to support your end aim. You have the CC email - lets sort this out, the Police can go and interview this kid and get your phone back.

    • Why CC hasn't lodged the police report as yet? What's stopping you guys?

      • +1

Has been stolen from the customer. Fraud however is another matter…

        • I understand but the customer is blaming you so should have been lodged (to be safe).

    • -6

There's absolutely no way how I could care less about your opinion, what you call for, or what you think.

Why didn't CC offer me a replacement or refund if I report this to the police? CC didn't care to help in any way. Besides some clown posting here unofficially for the company.

I will see if his family lives up to the promise to fix this, and if not I will end up going to the police. But in no way am I interested in doing anything CC asks me to do.

      • +3

Ok, this "clown" is checking out… enjoy your phone. It's clear what's occurred here.

      • +2

too new to downvote, but what a joke this whole thread was - very entertaining though!

What a bogus story! if you know who stole it, police report, get phone blocked, go from there..

maybe don't try to commit fraud and look like an idiot in the process..

      • +1

That's not how this works. No sane/honest person would expect them to offer a replacement or refund when it was clearly delivered to them.

      • I will see if his family lives up to the promise to fix this, and if not I will end up going to the police.

So, the thief’s family will ‘fix this’ by paying you say $1250 for the phone, and you seek $2500 from Australia Post as you have it in writing that AP didn’t put the phone in a safe place.

So, you will need to ensure Centrecom doesn’t lock the phone; so no police report.

OP, your cunning plan will most likely work best if you keep it quiet. (Certainly don’t tell the clown anything).

  • +9

Please CentreCom report it to the police for possible fraud, i'm sure the police would be very interested. The irony is that if the IMEI is blocked and op has it, he will be out of pocket and without a phone and face possible criminal charges.

    • +2

      yesss *gets popcorn

    • I really hope they do, looking at previous posts he has tried this bs before.

  • +5

so get this.. the parcel is stolen by someone else and OP said "I am the legal owner of the device and that I am the one who should decide if the device gets locked or not" https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14083164/redir

basically doesnt want CC to lock the IMEI !

100000000000000% he has the phone and wants to keep it and wants to get his money back .. bruuuuuuuuuuuvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv this guy is the biggest scammer !!!!!!!!

  • I’m very shocked by this recent turn of events from the OP. Shocked, I tells ya.

  • @monster2010 wrote:

CentreCom, are you going to lock it as you said?

    OP wrote:

centrecom simply doesn't give a shit about their customers.

The OP has said it was stolen. Locking will hopefully help OP get it back from the teenager as it cant be used.
Why wasn't this locked from the start in the best interest of your customer?

And is anyone going to lodge a police report?

    • CC can't block without police report.

      • Agreed, that's why I asked is anyone going to lodge a police report - seems it's in both CentreCom's and OP's best interests to lodge police reports.

I don't get why report/locking wasn't done from the start - by both parties - in order to minimise it being sold to some innocent party.

Possibly there are issues with an end-user locking an IMEI on a phone that's never been activated on a network - if so, maybe only the retailer (CentreCom) can do this.
By not locking, it only makes this worse if someone innocently purchases the phone, not knowing it's stolen - especially if this could have been prevented.

        • +2

The OP technically has to lodge the police report because the delivery was made, therefore it is no longer CentreComs property.

OP won't lodge a police report because a "teenager they know" stole it. The OP doesn't want the phone locked because they have it. Full on scam.

          • @newjerseydamo: A physical delivery was made but, I think OP was disputing if the delivery contract was fulfilled (either signature or safe drop).

In any event - I gather CentreCom previously confirmed they could lock and that 'the phone will be locked.'
            https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14082988/redir

CC is an authorized Apple seller, we can flag IMEI/handset and lock it once its turned on :-)

            • +1

@Joda: They did confirm, but on several posts advised a police report is needed from the OP's side. And regardless of what the OP thinks (and let's be honest, they've shown their true colours and they're not good), the delivery was made therefore the transaction is complete.

        • No, it is in OPs best interest if he makes a $1000 deal with the thief’s family for the phone (so no police report) and seek a new replacement phone with CC or seek $2500 from AP who have already admitted that the phone was not left in a safe place.

Best option: $1000 sale of stolen phone, new phone from CC and also $2500 from AP.

          • @Eeples: fabricated story that some kid took the phone lol,

  • Wow this turned around shame op

  • How come CC not starting legal proceedings against OP.

    • +1

2k phone vs legal proceedings cost?

  • check out other OPs posts they made, they all complain about shipping, or wanting refunds. i think they are a scammer or someone who regrets buying stuff and just wants money back.

    • ofcourse, seems his aim is to defraud companies, "didnt get the order, refund me"

  • this might of worked with Amazon.
