These are gift cards — you aren’t supposed to buy them for yourselves!?

    • +20

      Gift for Hackers?

      • That’s a relief! I was quite worried that everybody around here is pathologically selfish

      • yes true haha

      • Yes i was struggling to find a gift for that one that is impossible to pick for.

I find them useful for a few use cases.

Purchase with amex to earn point then can use the mastercard anywhere amex is not accepted or surcharge excessive.

Disposable cards for privacy online gives a little comfort. Knowing my primary card is not being stored.

Fixed amount in the card is a good fixed allowance to share with family to avoid overspending

      • +2

Only useful if you know you'll be exhausting funds in a short period of time after purchasing.

        • Most certainly
Buy today, use tomorrow use cases.

And a $100 one to buy lunch each day at the take out places near work that don't take amex while keeping to a fixed budget on lunches.

        • Why?

      • +2

Only a few? I can think of too many use cases why not to buy this.

There are already products that allow you to change cvc for your digital card every 24hr, such as Westpac.

Fixed amount is not a good idea, if you buy something $249, you left with $1 that is too much trouble to use and keep record.

If you buy something more than $250, most merchants dont allow split payments online, you can't use this without work around.

        Can't add to PayPal

This is easily hackable coz their bin number is known and expiry date is mostly the same

There are issues where merchant dont process disposable Mastercard. Eg. 3d secure

These can't be PayPass or tap and go, some smaller restaurant use their iPad thingies that they don't support magnetic strip

You can run into activation or other tech issues your card won't work. Not only you are not saving money, but hours with support consider yourself lucky if they can fix them in short time.

Normal credit card comes with price protection or other form of insurances

If you buy something and need refund later, good luck in trying to remember which one you bought from. Refund can only made to original payment form. Keeping these disposables in small home is another problem

Def neg so novice people not trying to ozbargain it

        • agree

        • +2

really depends on the use case. I agree with most use case you might as well use your own card.

But, say if you just want to renew your VPN service (or whatever half dodgy subscription that can't disable automatic recharge easily), this would be the perfect card not to leak any of your own information and not care if there's automatic recharge.

As for the remaining few $, you can buy Amazon giftcard with the exact amount and pay with the exact balance in it.

never need to worry about refund in this scenario.

        • +3

They can be added to PayPal again since a couple weeks or so back.

        • Banks adding cvv changes is only new innovation for them driven in part by market of these products and most banks still do not offer.

Who said anything about buying stuff eligible for refund
For starters buying stuff in store not really front of mind.

Statements of stores not trusted is synonymous with either cannot trust for refund or ineligible anyway

But most stores online with in store presence do NOT require original card for refund, they do however require photo id in its place.

Paypal does allow, also all in store support split payments. Who cares about splitting online you've bought the card for specific need and certainly a well planned need.

Yes the faulty activation is annoying and to debate your original assertion
a disposable is a gift and not a tool for buyer,
an absolutely TERRIBLE GIFT to give anyone unless you really hate them. Here's hit reverse lottery ticket you give $100 with one in a x chance of recipient calling a call centre (AS NON BUYER) trying to prove purchase.

They are purely a tool for the buyer. Gift is an inappropriate label.

    • The gift that keeps on giving (problems that is!)

  • +17

I prefer the 10% discount offer.

  • +1

Do these still work with the ATO?

    • +5

Only if you get a call from them by someone who barely speaks engrish

    • +2

      Yes, used some today.

      • Thanks, got PAYG due and haven't had any X% off GC this quarter.

        • Pay as soon as you receive the card.

        • +3

I usually stock up and prepay ATO when i see these deals

          • @littleburrito: Sorry for the noob question, but does the PRN on the PAYG installment stay the same every time?

          • @littleburrito: How do I get refund if I prepaid the tax? Or is it an automated refund?

            • +1

@frostybite: I dont recommend paying the ATO and then trying to get a refund from them. It's a little complicated as you have to submit the request and they might refund it straight to the card you used for payment.

      • Online or through phone? Thanks

        • Online works fine. Check the surcharge and then backoff the payment so the payment + surcharge equals the face value of the GC.

  • Lol are they trying to mock us?

  • +4

Good way to pay off ATO debt / HECS debt while earning Qantas/Velocity points I guess?

Hoping next year I can pay off my HECS with the 10% discounted ones though…

    • No point of paying HECS with 0% of these cards.
That is no better than Bpaying HECS direct/indirect with CC

      • Doesn't other methods incur fees? What method can you use to pay the ATO with a credit card without fees?

        • Bpay is the key dude.

pay indirectly to the ATO, and you wont inoccur any fees, just need another like >$1000 credit limit after Credit card

          • +1

@USER DC: Sorry, would you mind sharing - even if I bpay through my hsbc credit card, I don't think credit card points will be given as it'll come through as ATO?

            • +2

@ilovefood12345: Need to get another credit line - SEPERATE FROM YOUR normal CC (of more than $1000 - get approved for that too)
Then use that new Credit line to do Bpay payments, (technically can use that anywhere, except to CC payments)

Then lastly pay your New Credit line balance with your normal CC (and you should earn CC points for your normal CC)

              • @USER DC: Thank you! I guess it's only for people that can have another line of credit open? I'm pretty sure I'm at my max with both credit cards. Guess if i want to meet minimum cc spend i'll have to buy this and then pay ato and pay the credit card fee?

                • @ilovefood12345: In 9 days you wont need to have Credit limit of >$1000 though.

You just need to search Bpay on here in top right corner to know the deal Should be the first link. - Anybody should be able to know what deal i am talking about with this clue .
Pro tip: Dont be an idiot, and try to max out your Credit limit on newly open credit line (or a line that you dont use normally, or dont have a good repayment history with in past)

IMO I would close one of normal CC or reduce their limit to open this new Credit line

                  • @USER DC: Thanks for your tips - I really appreciate it. I'm just soon going to be running a preapproval for a mortgage so don't know if it'll get in the way either? The only other way I can think of is snip - but it now shows on my cc transaction histroy snip-ATO. So hope it still gets credited towards minimum spend?

                    • +1

@ilovefood12345: assuming you aint alone, and got somebody else in house, Who is not getting mortgage. Should be able to apply for new Credit limit, and you can use their account to do Bpay transactions.

Also I aint no financial broker - cannot advice on how new application would or would not apply to your lending amounts

                      • @USER DC: Thanks so much for your help!!!

                      • @USER DC: Why would someone take out additional loans, get extra hits on their credit file, reduce their credit score, only to achieve the same thing as they can achieve here with gift cards?

                        • @rekke: If you read yourself, and comments again, you would understand WHY it is "NOT THE SAME THING as achieve here with gift cards?"
$0 vs $0.5, hackers, convenience etc. just to name a few. But key difference is already listed in comments above

                          • +1

@USER DC: The hacker argument really isn't relevant considering you are holding onto the cards for less than 10 mins when buying and then using them. I'd rather not take extra hits on my credit file for convenience with all due respect

  • +1

would there be any purpose to buy this?

    • +10

      @jes
Main use would be for people trying to meet a spend level on a new credit card.

      • +1

and are willing to donate that spend to random hackers ;)

  • and secure.

    LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

Money safer in a Nigerian Princes Bank Account than a Coles GC :/ Thanks for nothing Coles !

  • All that risk for 0% discount. No thank you.

    • Exactly my thoughts. Why would / should anyone buy this with no discount and risk of hacking as well.

  • can you buy this with discounted Coles gift cards then buy more Coles gift cards….ect

    • +1

Nope. You can buy Coles discount cards with these but not the other way around.

  • +1

I think these guys hogged the cards at the last 10% promotion and now they are selling back to us for profit.

  • Lol
Spent weeks and hours on the phone trying to recover $750 on three hacked cards
The normal lines of resolution did not work
    Very bad deal
    Downvote

  • No reason to buy this. High chance of getting hacked and zero benefits

  • +1

I got excited until I actually read this deal (not a bad deal for anyone with a cashback credit card I suppose, still credit to OP but they need to give us back the 10%)

  • +1

These cards get hacked easily. If you are getting a 10% discount (which is really about 6/7% discount after fees for the $250 card), it makes the risk worthwhile (if you use them quickly). If there is no discount, it's just not worth the risk.

  • Digital :(

  • No, 10% off please.

  • +1

Need to restock a few of these but at 10% at least

  • Nope. No discount and fees on card is a bit w&*ky tbh.

  • +1

How is it a bargain if it was overpriced and now just normal price essentially

    • +4

      You buy something worth $100 for $100 !!! Isn't that a bargain ?

  • High risk, no reward. No thanks.

  • Not a deal

  • +4

You risk much for absolutely no gain.
If you want a disposable visa, use Wise or Revolut.

  • Well that's not a saving, pay $250 for a $250 giftcard.
    1=1
    10=10
    69=69

    • 69 is priceless

  • +1

This is good for hiding all the porn subscriptions from a wife who gets too nosy on credit card history.

    • +1

Real Ozbargainers have a dozen bank accounts for the $50 signup bonuses by now, which serve as a side benefits for such activities

    • +2

Wouldn’t an OzBargainer just search for free porn? Why pay for something you can get for free?

  • Wow! Such an unbelievable deal!

  • OP, What does this mean?

…but no worse than using Beem It.

    • +1

Used to be able to use Beem It to BPay bills such as ATO/HECS with a CC and receive points. This was stopped a few weeks ago after it was posted on Tik Tok. Many people did this and there was no discount and no fee. It could only be done with VISA or Mastercard. These GCs can be purchased with AMEX thereby earning more points.

    Purchase for losing money quicker?

  • +1

I have lost around $100 from these cards. Tiktok charged me and i called and complaint, nothing can be done.

    • Well at least tiktok was limited to $100 and didn't clean out your bank

    • Try launch a dispute with them. Takes about 5 months for the money to come back. Use up all credit in card before doing that, coz it will be all lock away.

      • I called up and the lady said there is nothing she can do.

        • +1

Then next step is complaint to AFCA, which is written in the T&C point .14

  • Why would someone buy a $250 for $250 that has security vulnerabilities and is susceptible to hacking?

  • Can you only spend at Coles or spend the $ anywhere?

    • Anywhere.

  • 100 or 250 REAL MONEY for ???

    • For hackers to grab.

  • +2

    It’s a scam.
Coles mastercard essentially forces you to enter a contract where you lend your money to them for at least 30 days at a minimum cost, with the risk where you would spend a lot of effort getting the money available in your card purchased.

Check the previous deals, especially this one, if you’d like to trade off your energy and time battling with the worst customer service (outsourced of course) just for saving few bucks, then think again.

    • +1

It involves more risks than instore purchase as the online purchase may be mishandled by giftcards-com-au who takes no responsible for emailing the same eGC to different buyers.

  • +1

Good so wife can’t see purchases on chatturbate

    • It's a pity you can't use it in person at questionable establishments.

  • Can you use these to fund gambling websites?

    • I have used the physical ones for Ozlotteries.

  • where can you use these cards except instore?
I managed to get one working on Amazon a few weeks ago.

have a few of them lying around. used to purchase 4% off discounted grocery cards to use but that seems to have been blocked a while ago…

  • This promotion has just stopped, now $7 fee applies for the 250 valued card
