    500smackers? …oh, good grief!

  • +4

    That’s peaNUTS!

  • Why lol.

Better off getting a quality field watch like the Hamilton khaki field handiwind.

I think there are cheaper kids watches around.

    • +1

This is more like a Flieger Type-B than a field watch. Yes, plently kids watches that are cheaper but that's not the target audience

      • Yeah the one I mentioned is more like a Type-A.
I don't mind either, the whole idea of them is simplicity and excellent legibility. White on white isn't great but admit it's a novelty collector's item not a serious watch.

Having said that it would look good on you, should grab it!

        • +1

I already have both Seiko 5 x Peanuts

          • @rosebank: Of course you do =D.

I remember swatch Micky mouse watches.
Actually a swatch store just opened in BNE.

            • +1

@G-rig: I have mickey mouse watches too

    • Or even a Timex expedition use it kill it buy another

    • +1

I think there are cheaper kids watches around.

Intended audience is not children for a $500 mechanical automatic watch. Would you call the Omega Snoopy a kids watch too?

Better off getting a quality field watch like the Hamilton khaki field handiwind.

Believe it or not, different people have different style preferences, that's why there's so many watch types available.

      • -2

        Cool.
        Yep, agree.
People can but what they want (and pay almost double for the Collab/branding).

  • Anything with peanuts or Disney is a markup!

    Actually a nice watch tho

  • +2

I have a special love for collab designs that go subtle like this, a properly thought out design rather than just slapping both brand names on in as many places as possible.

    • I have this on a grey nato and the other on on a black/stainless bracelet

  • Bit the bullet , got one ! Thanks OP

  • +1

Good price. I've seen people trying to order this overseas.

    • The fact that it's discounted and still available elsewhere shows they aren't able to move the combined 14,000 units across both of the collabs IMO.

  • Peanut was up there with the pink panther as the most annoying cartoons, betty boop also gets an inclusion to the list.

  • +1

    I’d rather a Snoopy.

  • +1

i did think about these, but in all honesty I couldn't see myself wearing them much. That's a reasonable chunk of dosh just to have them sitting in the box for the sake of having them.

    • I've actually worn his one, which is very rare. Normally it's just chuck them in the pile

      • +2

I need to be ruthless, otherwise I end up with a pile of unloved watches which is unfair on them. I not only consider "will I actually wear this, and wear it long term", but apply a bit of Kondo logic of "and does it spark joy?"

While the two Peanuts watches do actually satisfy the second condition, they don't satisfy the first of being watches that I'd wear. If they were in the $200-250 range I'd likely take the plunge, but not for a near grand. Not when there are others out there that meet both criteria.

        • That's a good atitude to have; I wish I could do the same

        • Just need to come up with a 6 or 12 watch (or whatever number) collection of ones you actually wear regularly and rotate. At least that is the ideal situation I want. From now on its a one in one out policy, and try to upgrade the quality each time. The minimalist in me doesn't see the point of collecting for the sake of it, especially if I never wear them. It's a bit like hoarding but everyone is different.

        • I have the nato strap dive watch version of this snoopy and I absolutely love it.

It's definitely one of those "need to see it in person" watches.

I get your point though, so many people on watch forums and buy/sell ones lap up every watch they can to the point that it's clearly an addiction they have. watches are an accessory, treat them as such, if you aren't wearing them and they aren't an investment piece like a PP then sell.

    • just to have them sitting in the box for the sake of having them.

TBH if you're buying watches and sticking them in a cupboard then it's probably some sort of shopping addiction. Unless it's a Rolex or PP that's worth tens (hundreds) of thousands of dollars as an investment piece, why?

      • Zigactly. I don't want to be a collector, I want to be someone who uses their collection.

        • +1

Join any watch forum and you'll see people impulse buying whatever pops up and then either reselling it a month later or it going to the cupboard.

I'm convinced that watches are the male equivalent of handbags and clothes for (some) women, lol.

          • @coffeeinmyveins: Agree, no one actually needs more than one or two but they are nice accessories for the discerning gentleman. A phone has all those functions and more these days.

A five watch collection would be good if chosen wisely, different styles but mostly all gada watches (go anywhere do anything).

I don't mind the idea of one Just get one good omega or something though.

            • @G-rig:

I don't mind the idea of one Just get one good omega or something though.

The one watch collection. The holy grail and an exercise in restraint, compromise and consideration. Love it.

but mostly all gada watches (go anywhere do anything).

TBH 99.999% of people who wear watches never use them for their intended purpose. When was the last time you saw someone with a $20k submariner actually taking it for a dive? They'd probably recoil in shock at the thought of their precious baby getting (shock horror) wet (even though it's rated at 300m). Or when was the last time someone used a chronograph for its intended function and not just toying around with it for the sake of it.

              • @coffeeinmyveins: That's true, a lot of those buyers are overly precious, fesitidious in keeping their things pristine or don't dive anyway. Fair enough if spending $20k but wouldn't stop me wearing a dive watching in the pool, beach and shower.

Actually it was my point about GADA watches, the dive watch style are great for everyone - brushed ss is pretty rugged, usually 200m water resistance, great lume, easy and legible to read, dress them up or down.

A lot of Porsches never get taken to the track but plenty do.

      • it's the excitment of online shopping and the rush that comes from it I assume.
Most of the time never need the items. ha .

As long as you can sell them later when you are bored of it or want to refine the collection.

  • +2

This watch probably worth 200 if it is not a collabs. So it's just the fan-mium

    • +1

It's a $250 watch at best. But Snoopy so +$200

      • Just like the Omega snoopy, any collab adds perceived value/desire to it.

  • +2

Out of stock? People actually bought this…?

    • Yep

    • -1

Someone posts a $2k graphics card and everyone loves it, someone posts a $500 piece of jewellery and you lose your mind?

      • You call that losing one's mind?

        • +1

I meant more collectively based on the replies in this thread. Seems to be that some OZB members don't understand that there's other hobbies than graphics cards, air fryers and toyota camrys.

  • Didn't expect the price to drop for this one.
bought one for $517 last month and thought it was a bargain.

    • Was that during the Shiels sale? I think I paid around the same

      • It was from Wallace Bishop which offered 10% off code.
I have asked around and many stores are out of stock.
Anyway, did you buy it again this time?

        • Nah, one is enough

    • -5

You must have too much money!

      • +1

Honey, I promise this is my last watch.

        • That’s what @rosebank said after watch number … :-)

          • @Thrifty Dan: I honestly don't know, and don't want to count

            • @rosebank: Do you have a cabinet where you display them?

              • @Thrifty Dan: I have multiple watch boxes/rolls strewn around the house

                • @rosebank: Do you have a sale sometimes?

                  • @Thrifty Dan: I sell the ones I get bored of, but keep 12 in a Wolf box that I'll keep

                    • @rosebank: Nice, where do you sell them?

                      • @Thrifty Dan: eBay mostly. I also re-buy ones I've sold because I regret selling them. i haven't sold any for ages

                        • @rosebank: Do you have anything for sale now? If you send me a link via pm I might look into it, if there’s something interesting. It’s good to buy from somebody who loves watches like you. Cheers.

                          • @Thrifty Dan: Better to sell them on a watch group than ebay. Australian Affordable Watch Forum facebook group is great for this stuff, if they're over $2k there's the Australian Watch Forum too.

I've bought and sold many watches on both of these groups.

                          • +2

@Thrifty Dan: I've thought about making a forum, maybe after my trip. Remind me in Nov

                            • +1

@rosebank: Cheers! Any tips if I can score a bargain at Doha airport? I’m traveling soon overseas as well. Qatar, Netherlands, Germany and back.

                              • +1

@Thrifty Dan: Would be cool to get a laco or stowa flieger in Germany.

                              • +2

@Thrifty Dan: I haven't travelled in a while, but like @G-rig said, get a german watch, I like Sinn, Junghans and Nomos, or a Stowa or Laco flieger. Most of my watch shopping will be JDM hunting in Japan and buying rollies in HK.

                              • @Thrifty Dan: Airports and bargains rarely go together!

Their only advantage is that the stockists of high-end watches will often have actual stock they are willing to sell, because who is going to go on a waitlist at an airport airside AD? Assuming that what you have, is what you want.

    • yeah me neither, was surprised to see it here.

  • -4

    Boomer watch

  • Have to laugh at the people commenting here about spending $500 on a watch.

$500 is literal peanuts (pun intended) for a mechanical watch.

If you think it's too much, that's fine, but you're clearly not the intended audience.

  • +3

I have no issue spending $20k on a watch, but I don't really get buying a watch with a cartoon character on it as a grown man.

Many people do, hence why a Omega Snoopy watch is selling for $30k on the grey market.

    • +2

TBH I don't get the hype of the Omega Snoopy, I actually think it looks pretty childish and not worth the hype/price tag.

I also find it funny how they've milked the absolute crap out of the fact that the speedy was the "first watch on the moon" for so many decades and people wear it as a badge of honour after parting with $20k.

Having said that i love the seamaster

      • When I first got into watches, I thought the Omega Snoopy was a fake or mod lol.

I'll probably get a moonwatch one day- just the classic (no cartoon character)

The other issue for me about Omega is there are way too many watches in their Seamaster collection, I think this is one of the reasons why they don't hold value.

Most Seamasters are just too bulky on my wrist, but if someone insisted on buying an Seamaster for me, I wouldn't say no to an Aqua Terra.

        • Fair points.

I also don't get the brand dilution they did with the Swatch moonswatch. $500 for a plastic quartz watch with a plastic case is just laughable. So many youtubers are praising them for a stroke of genius whereby they are getting people into watches at 'lower price points' but all it does in my mind is tell them how poorly made they can be.

If you spent $500 on an Omega x Swatch watch that broke and got scratched in 3 months, why would you then want to spend $15k on an Omega?

    • ….wait until you hear who's buying up all the lego!!!

    • Not sure if you have seen an Omega Silver Snoopy in person but they are beautiful watches.

I have had mine for little over a year and love wearing it.

      • I have, and it's just not for me. IMO The price tag doesn't warrant cartoon on the dial although I love the caseback of the watch.

But I'm glad you're enjoying it.

      • +1

I'm sure they are beautiful, it's just that I'd prefer my watch without a cartoon character on it.

        • +1

Agree. Clearly it isn't for children yet it's childish :P.

The good thing is everyone is allowed to have different tastes, but I don't see the point unless you are sitting on it in case it ncreases in value somewhat.

      • I envy you!

I have a personal connection to the Apollo 13 mission, and if I was a little less attached to both of my kidneys I'd get one of these in a heartbeat, and wear it proudly.
