Doesn't look like this has been posted yet. I'm on the fence versus the Google chromecast with google tv but this seems to be a decent price…

Cheaper at Officeworks ($37) if you can find a store with stock (not available online)..

Also same price at BigW, Good Guys and JB Hifi

Price History at C CamelCamelCamel.

  • Absolutely great devices. Put on retroarch and it’s a great cheap retro games console

    • Does retroarch work OK on the lower specced models? I assumed you'd need to use the 4k Max version for this.

  • Does this image quality still look decent on a 4K TV if I use this one or is it worth getting the upgraded stick?

    • what tv do you have? like an oled one with hdr or a cheap one

      • Cheap one, I have doubts about the 4K sticker. It's worth a few hundred dollars

        • sorry for the late reply. its still something i would recommend. its not really as good of a deal as the sale on prime day but that is normal.

Isn't this normal price? Officeworks looks to be cheaper by $2

    • Good point, I was fooled by the 51% off on Amazon. Looks like its $39 in most stores and $37 at officeworks but not available online and out of stock at stores near me… I've updated the main post..

GTV however the Firestick 4k Max is better than GTV.

    • Do these support casting direct from an app on your phone (like Google Photos) or do you have to cast/mirror your whole phone screen?

      • +1

You have to mirror the screen

  • Cheapest way to get the remote?

My 4K max remote doesnt work (water damage) and the chinese knock offs arent that responsive.

    • My remote also died a while back. I've been using this - Rii i4 Mini Bluetooth Keyboard with Touchpad, Blacklit Portable Wireless Keyboard with 2.4G USB Dongle for Smartphones, PC, Tablet, Laptop TV Box iOS Android Windows Mac.Black https://amzn.asia/d/gULK2L2. Works very well.

Contact live chat, they will organise replacement.

Mine died and was told to order new one and reimbursed.

      • Thank you ill try that.

Have to mention i got mine fire stick 4k from an ebay deal not direct from amazon

Officeworks is giving at the moment for $37

    • Good point, thx, not available online but I've updated main post…

It's a good price if it is a Firestick 4k Max

  • What does the different of using this stick compare to smart tv app directly?

    • Dedicated TV sticks/boxes are generally a lot more responsive and supported for longer. Overall much nicer to use compared to built in apps.

    • More responsive especially the 4k version.

Can sideload apps easier as well compared to some TV's with non android based OS.

  • What build of Kodi does everyone run on these things? I have tried a few, but always run into it crashing on start up, and have to clear the cache everytime before it will start… Which is rather annoying. I have a 4K Max.

    • +3

Kodi, with Umbrella + Real Debrid for a complex build with a lot of control of configuration OR if you want a more plug and play experience that takes about 20 mins to setup, Stremio+Torrentio Add on+Real Debrid. Of course I only use this for streaming non copyright material.

      • Thanks, Ill see how I go with the later.

I liked my first 4K Max that much I bought another two in short succession.

I bought the adapter linked to below ($22) as well so they can all connect by ethernet, works well.
