So even with the infamous $60 membership fee that so many on this site are quick to chastise you are still in front. What will the naysayers have to complain about with this Costco post now?

Hold on, only 1 HDMI (out), so how will I plug my PS3 in? :-(
        Cheap price thou.

        • +1

If I'm reading the above right, you could plug in a PS3 using optical in, with HDMI going from the console to the TV.

        • :( I think your right, still it's a cheap price.

        • Its not a receiver. You'll need a receiver if you want it to accept multiple HDMI inputs.

    NO WAY
    YES WAY !

  • Any proof of the price by any chance?

Looks like I'm heading to Costco tomorrow =)
    Thanks OP!

    Lol, 1000 watts.

    • +5

      1000 watts PMPO… 3 watts RMS…

      • +3

Might want to check your specs before cracking jokes from 1998. It's 1000w RMS: http://www.sony.com.au/product/bdv-e690

        • +3

Highly doubt it's 1000W RMS. Superior speakers such as those from Aktimate, Audioengine, Swan etc (for the same price as this speaker set) have only 70-90W RMS.
Have you seen the speakers on each tower? They're TINY. Not sure how Sony is able to pump out 125W RMS for each tower.

        • dont think specs are spot on.

1000wrms for 350 would be a dream come true

        • Might want to check your specs before cracking jokes from 1998. It's 1000w RMS

          Facepalm.

        • Ok, this doesn't make sense. The speakers tell you how many watts they can handle, they don't 'have' watts, unless they're active speakers with an amp inside, unlikely except for the subwoofer. If passive (most) speakers say 70-90W or 125W then that is an indication of how much they can handle, but in actual fact they can usually handle much more. Speakers get broken mainly because the volume gets turned up under insufficient power, you are less likely to 'blow' them by plugging in a genuine 250W source. I have genuine 225W each on my two front speakers which are 'rated' to 150W, but would have no problem plugging in 500W per channel.

The power rating comes from the amp, if you want to know how powerful the amp is, check out the power rating plate on the back of the unit (and the subwoofer), and always remember you don't get more out than you put in. If the plate says AC in 750W, then you could probably expect no more than 500W total output.

Most likely 1000W PMPO, real RMS power is likely to be one quarter of this. Still a good price and would be loud enough for most people. The lack of adequate inputs/outputs is always the biggest problem with these systems so make sure you know what you will be connecting before buying.

      • +1

Agreed. It's Sony doing their usual wool-pulling. Yes it's 1000W RMS but most probably at a single frequency with 10% distortion as per all their other modern, over-rated systems HOWEVER it will do exactly what anyone looking for an all-in-one system for this price wants it to do… look great, crank up really loud and provide $350 worth of enjoyment for a few years. Absolutely nothing wrong with it or with that expectation which is why I gave this deal a greenie, I just wish Sony would pull their head in and measure their systems fairly so consumers can make educated decisions against offerings from other brands. There's no mention anywhere I can find online of what the distortion is at that 1000W RMS measurement, maybe 10% is being kind, who would know?!

There's a reason those daggy old silver & woodgrain stereo amps from the 70s or 80s are still worth this exact same amount 2nd hand on eBay… and most would still work well too :)

  • How this unit can connect through WiFi, its mentioned optional Wifi in description?

  • Doesn't support DTS-HD MA?

Nice unit, but the Pioneer receiver bundle with Blu-ray player from Dick Smiths earlier this year was a better option if you wanted to plug other sources in.

    Otherwise, looks impressive for $350.

        • LMAO true you say …

  • Would anywhere price match this??

Can't be bothered driving to Melb and signing up to Costco

  • I saw this in Costco Auburn also. $349
I need something that can take multiple audio inputs though from the TV tuner (digital coax) Telstra TBox (analogue or optical digital ?), and a Logitech Squeezebox duet (analogue or digital).
Can anyone confirm these inputs would work with one of these?
    Thanks
