Looks like Lego’s price increases are biting them in the ass…

      And that's good news.

    • +4

That and the sets apparently not very good, esp compared to the submission it was based on

Although they are a lot better than where they were 2 decades ago when they almost went bankrupt, but I think that if they don't tread carefully, they could mess up again. Their success I believe was resurrected by the Star Wars line along with targeting adult fans. But I mean as the years go by, adult fans get older, then priorities with money (mortgage, having kids, inflation and weakening economies etc) changes as well.

Some of the things they are releasing is quite honestly garbage, and some of the IP based sets are also ridiculously overpriced, like these two new ones

Like yeah I get it, the minifigures are new/exclusive/special, but yeah that's just literally telling people to not bother buying it.

        RRP of 76263 @ 65c/PP is INSANE

Damn that's 1 ugly hulkbuster. Even Minecraft has more details

      • Yep, pricing is getting ridiculous.
Also agree re exclusive minifigures. I mean having 5-10 different Ironman suits in total may entice people to collect them, but releasing 69* slightly different variations of the same minifigure really dilutes the collectibility of it all.
*May or may not be an exaggerated number.

        • lol it's not too exagerated, I just counted my collection, there's about 55… Some are even more anal, and collect some spiderman ones that's some iron-spiderman, I just collected purely the suits.

      • They almost went bunkrupt due to having too many LEGO related side businesses. They sold all of them to 3rd parties and focused solely on LEGO bricks and became succesful again.(there was an article about it many years ago)

Well yeah the theme parks got sold to merlin, but they also had way too many moulds for every single element. As of late with a lot of these IPs and sets, I'm noticing they are introducing a ton of new pieces. I mean I do see them reused a lot in other new sets too, but I believe that was one of the costly things for them too which they ended up trimming down.

        • +1

Yes , adults and kids can play both, it's the building stage of accomplishment which is usually the rewarding stage
