  • Why would someone need this? Is it because KTMs will blow up and you have to know how many hours you got left 😂

    • +2

      Yes.
Its by design on several models.

KTM's are tuned to run at slightly damaging tolerances to get more power out of bikes restricted to certain CC classes.

This isn't new, and people who race them are well aware of the rebuild intervals.

    • +1

Service intervals on dirt bikes are based on hours and usually quite low for most things around 10hrs or so. The motocross bikes don't have a dash so without the hour meter you are just guessing.
Also buying second hand bikes that haven't had an hour meter from new and an understanding from the seller about service intervals I have found to be a bit too risky for me, especially in the 65cc and 85cc bikes where some parents either choose not to, not know about or can't afford the quite substantial maintenance costs.

      • Couldn't somebody just hit the reset button or swap with a mate with lower hours and voila?
Its not like this is a Dash out of a roadbike.

Like i understand Hour Meters are more for the Owner themselves to keep up on maintenance intervals but if you're buying something somebody has ultimate control over id just completely ignore it.

There is no reset button on the hour meters. Yes you could swap it or remove it for period, that is a risk, but it is a safety net for me when buying bikes. Bike should match up in condition to the hours on the meter, and also service history such as rebuilds and gearbox oil changes recorded against hours.

RRP doesn't mean much around here. These are $70 at Peter Stevens

monitoring of operating hours up to 99,999 total hours

Hmmmm not sure how many bikes would be getting up there

    • True RRP doesn't mean much. However your comparing it to a site that suggests a higher RRP then the seller and a much higher sale price then this deal so your point makes absolutely no sense.

While this item isn't for everyone, those who run them on there bikes will appreciate the discount.

Showing the discount against the street price rather than an RRP. I'm not implying this isn't a cheap price but no one's paying RRP so the discount isn't 53% that the rep is claiming.

I've used generic hour meters on motocross bikes for years. Cost $20 and work just as good.

KTM stands for Keep Taking Money.

You forgot quality , Einstein !

      • @Murkymerv Kuality Taking Money? 🤔

  • We have used plenty of hour meters at an equipment hiring agency, we buy bulk $7 a pop and they last ages and are accurate enough. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/152613760877.
