I would not say that this camera is on par with full frame 5DmarkIII. i think it is comparable with 7D and nikon d7000. The price for this camera is currently going down and probably will still go down for a while. I think bargain price for this camera is about Nikon D7000 price of 820-850 delivered

DAMN you i was looking at the nikon d600 when it comes out in a few weeks, or even a canon, but this thing looks pretty special!

specially as i already have a couple of lenses a flash remote and a battery pack for sonys…(not sure if its the same batteries though)

    your links aren't working
    http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com/content/Sony-Alpha-A77-Digi…
just comes up with the …

the biggest problem i have with my a350 is the colours seem to be very washed out though… the camera has never been able to truly capture the vibrant colours i've wanted to snap up…

not sure if its a sony trait in general or just the a350…

    • I just re-posted the link, give it another try.

  • I wonder if I need to pay GST at the customs if I purchase items more than $1000 from T-Dimension.

    • No GST at t-dimension but send them an email if you not sure.

      • Just sent one. Hopefully I will get some useful advice from them.

  • Not comparable to 5D Mark3 as its not a full frame sensor …

    • and also 1/3 of the price!

      • to be fair to the OP, he/she did indicate that full-frame is one key difference in his/her post. :o)

    • Here is an extract from the following link
      http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com/content/Sony-Alpha-A77-Digi…

"We knew that the A77 was great while we were testing it, but we didn’t realize just how well it would rank until we finished filling out its scoresheet. It blows away all of the other mid-level DSLRs that we’ve tested, and holds its own against the pro-level Canon 5D Mk. III".

      • Sony SLT A77 is a very good camera without a doubt. Picture quality wise is really good at low iso JPEG (<1600) but most professional range has a much much better RAW image noise quality than SLT A77.

SLT A77 since the light is not pass to the sensor in full will always exhibit higher noise chroma compare to a standard full frame SLR.

Another thing is the AF speed on the SLT A77 is not designed to compete with 5DmarkIII not even it can beat canon 7D and this is the real performance difference that put it not on the PRO range thus why i said it is not in the same class as 5DmarkIII.

If you shoot panoramic image or other slow action everyday life image you will not find fault to this amazing camera (SLT A77) but when you start shooting high speed and night time photography you will find the AF hunting all the time and its Headline 12FPS shooting speed does not help you to get a sharp high speed images in comparison to 5DmarkIII.

        • That's not true about the AF, because the A77 uses a fixed mirror SLT technology, AF on it so super fast. I also have the 7D and I know it beats it. The EVF helps alot for night shots where it's dark and because it has AF assist beam builtin to the camera, AF can be achieved even in pitch darkness. The SLT is designed for high speed shooting especially shooting kids who are constantly moving around.

        • 12fps is only if you lock the Aperture.
EVF is known to be a bit dim in bright lights, and doesn't show dark areas well.
It's good value for money, but I don't know any Pro shooters who use them because lens variety isn't a patch on Canon and Nikon.

        • Plenty of lenses to choose from, especially Carl Zeiss lenses and any old Minolta AF lenses which can be bought for cheap on ebay as well as third party lenses from Sigma and Tamron.

hmm i wonder if i should wait a little longer, a99 is coming out soon so price should drop further

  • I wouldn't go as far as vouching for the deal below (based in Indonesia) but they sell A77 + 2 lens (1.8/50 and 16-50/2.8) for USD 965 + 65 for delivery ! I'd be tempted but don't have the money right now…
