    I literally signed up yesterday!

    • +11

      Hand back your OZB card

    • +1

I signed up yesterday as well. Kicking myself ~

      • +1

Hand back your OZB card too sir

      • you should all still be within the cool down period.

      • it’s been this rate for a few days or you didn’t go through shopback ?

    • +1

yeah spewing, I signed up about 10 days ago.

  • I signed up the other day and it tracked pretty quickly - seems well integrated, IIRC the OVO site made direct reference to Shopback

    • Did you get $50 bill credit as OP mentioned?

      • Haven't seen any evidence of it

      • i thought the $50 credit is applied over 12 months?

      • nope, the $50 credit is replaced with shopback as the coupon code option (ie didn't double dip for me)

    • Same here, signed up today and received tracking email 20 minutes later.

    • Mine didn't track but i followed it up on shopback and looks to be sorted. I clicked through from the shopback link 🤷‍♂️

  • +3

Both plans available in QLD an absolute rip off compared to Nectr.

    • Plans show up as 2nd cheapest for Ausnet

      • Let me guess CovaU or EnergyLocals is 1st on the list :)

        • +1

Yup CovaU by $20/y or so.

Energy Locals rate hikes up quite a bit post 1st August so it's far below in the list.

          • +3

@[Deactivated]: I don't trust the VIC Energy Comp site 100%
My manual calculations show that I`m better of with Nectr which is listed 5th on the list than the top listings.

I`m kinda kicking myself for not signinup with GloBird (after discount rates locked in for a year):
            Daily usage: 1.03500
            Anytime Usage first 11.18kWh/Day: 0.26680
            Anytime Usage balance: 0.30940

          • @[Deactivated]: Same. I had either CovaU, EnergyLocals, or Ovo. EnergyLocals' rates are up starting today.

      • yeah for me in sydney it’s pretty good rates

    • Prices are much better for me on a non-smart meter in Brisbane.

      • How is that

  • Has anyone got success getting their cashback after jumping to another retailer before the approval time

    • +1

it says you need to stay 120 days so i doubt that you would get the money before then

    • I always wait for the confirmed status before I switch.

      • Cashrewards has 180 days - I like to share business every 30-60 days

        • 180 days? Sheesh. We could all be dead by then!

  • How can we still possibly get additional $50? I tried to click through SB and it's actually saying "code active" just as if we click through referral (or the welcome credit if we don't use any source to click)

  • What's this $50 bill credit you mention?

    • First page shown when clicked through from shopback says "$50 welcome credit".
Not sure if it'll be applied also though.

      • I’d say it’s one or the other.

        • +1

I think the welcome credit is paid over 12 months, the SB amount is lump sum payment after a certain period of time (ie. when confirmed).

      • It is the welcome credit from OVO, if the shopback activation has tracked then this should have switched to shopback. Also the welcome credit is showing as $100 for me (NSW)

  • Do you still get the cashback if you make a profit from your electricity instead of getting a bill?

    • +3

Yes, because your energy provider is making more of a profit than you

  • Ovo vs Amber which is better if you have an EV.

    • +1

OVO EV plan markup for normal tariff is too much tho.

    • +3

ovo if you have better things to do than watch prices consistently.

maybe amber if you have a battery.

      but do your own sums.

    • OVO but not the EV plan

  • Does anyone know how long this cashback offer is going to last?

    • +1

On SB it clearly states "till 10 Aug."

  • Does anyone know if OVO have updated their pricing yet? I recall from the previous OVO deal something about 1st of August being the date for some updated pricing…

    • It's lock in for 12mo

      • +2

www.energymadeeasy.gov.au explicitly says "plan prices are not fixed"

        • +2

Also shows $205.11 disconnection fee compared to $13-30 for others. I guess they have to get their cash back money back somehow lol

          • @mrDiscount: if you switch they can't charge you any connection or disconnection fee. You can always dispute the fee if it any higher than on the provider website

          • @mrDiscount: the disconnection fee is if you don’t pay your bill and they cut you off

        • My info when I signed up was locked prices for 12mo, 3228 Victoria

    • +1

When I signed up in late June they said they would be holding off raising rates until August, but no notices yet so maybe they’re holding off for another month or so?

      • +1

Might be worth waiting for news on this for new signups then.

I don't think that rates get locked in for 12 months? I haven't seen any wording anywhere to that effect?

        • +2

Once you get your quote, it will give you the option to get the Victorian Energy Fact sheet.
That shows release date of today, and that prices are locked:

          Prices are fixed
Contract expiry details Your contract will end on the 1st September 2024. On expiry of your fixed term contract, you will be placed
on a standing offer unless you opt-in to another market contract before then

          • @eagleeyedpixel: Not everyone from Victoria hahaha!

I've followed the link to the South Australia equivalent. Does not show fixed prices anywhere I can see. In fact it says "No Contract Term" right at the top. In fact, right at the bottom it actually says the prices are NOT fixed and that OVO Energy has the right to raise prices.

Not sure if this is SA specific….

  • Stack with referral?

    • don't think its possible.

  • Plans have to be active for 120 days for cashback to be eligible

I don't have personal experience but I'd watch for this. I don't know how it'll work but sometimes in the past I've been back billed to the previous meter reading when switching retailers. Sometimes I've had to wait until the next meter reading before the new retailer starts? Have no idea how it works and how they'll define 120 days.

  • Unsure if still active, but recently Virgin Money were giving 20k points (roughly $100 gift card value) for signing up through them. That was credited to me very quickly, check your app if you don’t feel like waiting.

    • Just checked and the deal is still there

  • +6

helped a friend using their referral, so shopback deal is not for me. Get paid less, but helping out a friend worth more ;)

  • -1

Tango rates are better than Ovo in VIC

    • I just left Tango for OVO today. My rates went up to 31kwh anytime. (Melbourne)

    • +4

Yeah nah, you can't make blanket statements.

      Me, in VIC
      OVO: 21.89c/kWh
      Tango: 30.49c/kWh

    • Not the whole of VIC

  • Ovo energy shows " Join Waiting List" for me but next door address is able to show plan. That is so strange.

    • Do you have a smart meter? Ovo generally prefer smart meters as they can smooth the bill easier.

  • +1

Anyone use their service? How is it?

Just read through the google review… some comments saying you can’t speak to them over phone. I tried their number, there was no one on the phone, just asked you to email them, even in an emergency situation.

    • Yes, very difficult to get hold of them. Maybe easier for Sales, but aftersales your queries will be responded after 2 working days

    • Have been with them for a little while now. No issues with electricity usage.
Haven't needed to call them, emailed them at the very beginning with enquiries about my service and they were quite responsive with next business day replies.

    • I tried to call them a few times and calls were never answered although I tried to select to speak to Sales the last time I rang. Emailed them instead and took quite a few days to get a reply.

    • +2

In an emergency situation, you should be contacting your distributor (e.g. AusNet or Jemena in Vic), not your retailer.

Retailers are little more than billing systems these days.

  • +1

I signed up for OVO energy through ShopBack in April, I had taken the required screenshots to prove the clicks. But both ShopBack and OVO denied me the cashback claim, as they said it was system issue between their integration. Finally ShopBack just compensated me with just $15.
My mistake was I didn’t raise the issue within 30 days, as the move in to the house was on a future date.

    • +2

This is my experience with ShopBack in general. Takes more time and effort to claim a pittance then it's worth.

    • had the same experience with Cashrewards and Ovo Energy. Rejected with no reason. Ovo's systems have broken all over right now so maybe that's got something to do with their integration or their just being sneaky. They literally can't even issue a bill to me (direct debit still magically works..) after 4 months. Ticket still open in my case.

      • Same case with me. They have been charging me a flat amount of $150 every month, without meter reading, even after I told them that my bill should be lower as I have solar panels. I have now raised a complaint with NSW Energy ombudsman against OVO.

  • +1

Ovo has some pretty bad ratings on productreview for their billing and changing suppliers. Anyone had any issues?

    • none so far.

    • I was with them for 2 years and had zero issues. I contacted them twice using email and chat, both went well.

    • Yes. Signed up in May via Cashrewards. The only Cashrewards sign up that got rejected after 90 days (unclear why, ticket open). And Ovo's billing has been down so I'm yet to see a bill. Customer service was good at the start, then radio silence. Most I got was "billing system broke, we fix now…". On my way out as soon as the Cashrewards bit is sorted out.

In terms of portal and usability - Simply Energy has been great. the online tracker is up to date and lets you check usage by the hour. Good charts.

  • +1

Trying to reach customer service is next to impossible. They want a smart meter for their EV plan but they dont install the same. Anyone in the same boat?

    • Ask your current supplier to install one, then transfer to ovo.

  • -1

Thanks. Red Energy sent me a 1000$ bill for last quarter aftwe switching from AGL. So not sure if theyll be generous enough to install a smart meter.

  • +5

No thanks. Signed up for an ovo plan through these guys 4 weeks ago. I then needed to cancel the plan during the cooling-off period and they were completely unreachable via their phone number.

    • Yeah….unreachable by phone.

But they responded to my cousin's email promptly though. (I haven't tried emailing them yet.)

      • +1

Just to be clear here, econnex (who are the shopback partner) were the ones that were dodgy, not Ovo Energy.

OVO Energy customer support were amazing in resolving my issue so if you can bypass Shopback, i'd advise to do so.

        • This deal is not with Econnex, it is with Ovo Energy directly. There is $171 cashback with Econnex. But I avoided that one.

          • @bargain_knight: Oh yeah, thats true. My bad… i thought it was through econnex. In that case, this is an awesome deal as Ovo Energy customer support were great in allowing me to cancel during cooling-off period.

            • @hash88: Thanks for sharing that experience with econnex. Btw, can you un-neg a bargain, or is it locked in? (Tells you how many times I've negged deals!)

  • Last time, signup new nbn via compare nbn on shopback. Transaction doesn't even got tracked.
Not sure if this one get tracked properly.

    • ShopBack emailed a tracking confirmation minutes after I signed-up to this.
If you do not receive the confirmation email, contact them and avail yourself of the 10 day cooling off period if not satisfied.

  • I took up the offer, but since OVO does not have gas plans I'm thinking of switching to CovaAu for gas; they appear to be the cheapest (distributor AusNet Vic).

    • you mean multinet gas?

      • It looks like it's Ausnet, for according to my invoice: "Faults & Failures (Gas):
        13 67 07 AusNet Services (gas) 24 hours"

    • Same here switched Gas to Covau but now the challenge will be to find the cheapest Electricity retailer (AusNet sux lol )…

  • I'm already with them, I chose direct debit so they have charged me preemptively for what they estimate to be the months usage.
I want to cancel and get my partner to sign up instead, I wonder if they will refund whatever credit balance is left.

  • They don't like to show the rates very easy

  • Just a thought, if you feel you use less electricity, you can always manually adjust the kwh before signing up. Just right the bottom of the low/med/high usage option.

  • thanks, signed up as seemed cheaper than powershops new rates

  • when I had my quote, it said no exit fee, but when I checked the website, my area has a disconnection fee for $200. What’s the difference between exit fee and disconnection fee?
