  • Are the plans good for SA

    • put in your address and see if it is good for you or not.

  • Why did you guys choose this provider (and with what plan)? I just compared it against what I'm paying, and they seem to be really expensive.
    My provider: Daily: 91.3c, c/kwh: 27.05c, FIT: 10.4c
    OVO: Daily: 150.48c, c/kwh: 34.45c, FIT: 14c for first 4000kwh, then 7c

    • please name your provider

      • +1

        Currently with Tango for my elec (solar plan). Looked up OVO solar basic plan to compare price.

    • +3

      it will vary based on location and distributor. what may look more expensive for you might not apply for someone else who has taken up this provider.
      best to do your own research on these to determine what is best for you.

    • Are you in Melbourne? OVO for me on Jemena is giving me ~21c per KWH and 107.25c daily supply charge. Currently with Lumo but their fixed term ends at the end of August, so I'll probably be switching to OVO.

      • Yep, Melb, Citipower network

        • How interesting, I'm in Coburg but a mate of mine over the Merri Creek in Thornbury is always crowing about how Citipower is cheaper (and when we compare plans, he tends to be right!)

          • @xyron: I don't see how your rates are cheaper than mine. The 6c diff is offset by the 16c difference in supply charge.
            Given I'm on solar, I'd take a lower supply charge over lower rates within reason (based on 2kw daily grid consumption)

            • @jkim: Are we both talking about the "One" plan? I looked at their solar plan that provides 14c per kwh of generation up to 4000kwh a year, but the increased regular supply charge and per kwh charge more than offset it (i have a 5kw system).

              • @xyron: Ohh you mean on ovo?
                The rate i got for my address was ridiculous… 150 supply charge, 34c per kw and 14c fit > 7c afterb 4000kwh.
                Nah i was talking about what I pay with tango which is 91c supply, 27c kwh and 10.4c fit - i have a 13kw solar system

                • @jkim: Yeah sorry I was referring to Ovo. If your Tango rate is staying as it is past August, don't touch it! Tango couldn't wait to tell me they were increasing my gas rates back in July so I have switched to CovaU for that (can't imagine they'd be any more generous on the electricity side)

                  • +1

                    @xyron: Nah, what I quoted is what they told me they will increase it to.
                    I'm paying even less than what I posted until mid-Aug.
                    And I'm not touching it, because it's a grandfather'ed plan… their new ones don't offer 10.4c unlimitted kwh FIT.

    Will do they a credit check on sign up?

    • +1

      I saw an enquiry when I signed up.

  • Signed up yesterday, apparently you can cancel your switch during the 14 day cooling off period.
    Should be right then to sign up again through ShopBack?

  • +1

    I signed up a few days ago. Didn't stack with referral code but stacked with the welcome $100 bonus thats divided equally and credited against the bill.

    The 3% interest on unused portion also sounds interesting. Basically you are required to pay a fixed amount every month and if actual usage was less than the amount, they pay 3% interest on the difference and the payment is used to offset next month's bill.

    • oo. so they dropped the welcome bonus to $50 then?

      • Still $100, divided equally across 12 months

        • Where do u see it? I couldnt see anything

          • @Andy Nguyen: Sorry. it must have dropped to $50. It was $100 when I signed up on 29th July.

  • What about additional 171 it shows on shopback app? So a total of 304$? Is it?

    • doubt they stack
      Breakdown of $171 cash incentives below:

      New Gas Signups $63.00
      New Gas & Electricity Signups $171.00
      New Electricity Signups $108.00

  • I signed up 2 weeks ago. YMMV, but so far I've been put on the wrong plan, called help twice with no answer, sent 3 emails and messages with zero response. This is my only experience with OVO so far but pretty disappointing.

  • If you are in Sydney, I just switched to Globird, a much better deal. The best one for me, about 25% cheaper than Energy Australia. See a recent post about Globird on Ozbargain, use a random referral to get $50

    • Their solar FIT isn’t great.

  • I tried the link above and it redirect to shopback -> ecconex website to do comparison
    But, Ovo was not showing up on the list provided by Ecconex.

    I went to Ovo website directly and I checked my address and Ovo provide service to my address.

    If I go to Ovo directly, they give $50 but in the span of 12 months

  • +1

    Ovo current referral credit is 120 for both referral and referee

    • That was span of 12 months
      $12 per month

      This offer $133 via shopback is over?

  • Any current Ovo Energy Customers seen or heard whether a price change/rise is coming?

  • I'm in NSW right now with Ausgrid and my rates are with RED
    0.98 day
    0.16,0.27,0.41 TOU
    7c FIT

    But this is locked from last yr until end Aug.

    Looks like a 50% hike in both ovo and red after this :(

    But ovo has higher rates and probably will cost more than the cashback it seems? There's practically no off peak now.

    FAIR WARNING TO ALL SOLAR OWNERS CONSIDERING JOINING: OVO ENERGY WILL DOWNGRADE YOUR METER TO A SMART METER

    Smart meters can emit magnetic fields, electric fields and radiofrequency radiation.

    Magnetic field exposure has been shown to increase:
    * childhood leukemia
    * adult leukemia
    * brain tumours
    * neurodegenerative diseases
    * oxidative stress (free radical damage) that is found in many health problems and contributes to ageing

    Radiofrequency radiation has been shown to:
    * increase the risk of brain tumours, especially in young people
    * cause sperm damage consistent with infertility
    * cause oxidative stress (free radical damage) that is found in many health problems and contributes to ageing
    * damage DNA
    * interfere with hormones, including melatonin (a potent free-radical scavenger).

    The International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified magnetic fields and radiofrequency radiation as a Class 2B carcinogen, in the same category as lead.

    Many people developed unpleasant symptoms after wireless smart meters were installed on their homes. You can see more details about this study here

  • Damn, just signed up a few days ago too. I like the web interface OVO has. Do they have an app?

  • Can anyone who has had a bill generated confirm how this played out.

    Ie. Is it 8c /kwh on ALL power over night?

    99% of all Smart meters usually only have 2 registers (main and Controlled load).

    Assume CL is still charged at CL rates, and the other is 8c/kwh?

    Cant see how they can charge a seperate price for charging an EV.

  • My cashback did not track (signed up 3 days ago)…..just lodged a report, hope they honor it.

    • I signed up to this deal before they bumped up the cash back rate. ShopBack's website said it would track in 3 days but it didn't so I lodged a report. After a few days the cash back finally started tracking on its own.

      The report I lodged has never been investigated. It has been about a month. I don't think they look at them.

  • Back to $70… missed it

  • Does anyone know why it says it can’t offer at my address in Vic but house next to me on the same street is eligible
