Citi Prestige Mastercard: Complimentary 4-Day/3-Night Stay (Tax Not Included) @ Marriott Vacation Club at Surfers Paradise

1200
MCELITE

Came across this a couple of weeks back but it's basically a "free" stay (you pay taxes) at Marriott Vacation Club at Surfers Paradise if you already hold a Citi Prestige. Only the Gold Coast Package is available to residents of Australia.

This applies to any World Elite Mastercard but Citi Prestige appears to be the only one available in Australia.

I was initially hesitant but I went through with it and was eventually connected to an agent over WhatsApp (???). We confirmed eligibility (I hold a Citi Prestige) and the flexibility of the booking (you can change the travel date once at least 14 days before your travel - this is mentioned in the T&C's.

There are some dates that would incur some additional surcharges but I avoided these. For the dates I chose, I paid ~$200 on taxes - normal price would have been ~$1600.

T&C's should have most (if not all) of the things you need to know!

Adding this in regards to the timeshare seminar:

This suggests that "World Elite Mastercard" holders do not need to attend a seminar:

World Elite Mastercard

World Elite cardholders enjoy a complimentary 3 nights stay at participating properties.
Value-adds include VIP touchless check-in and VIP extra nights and luxury airport transfers at discounted rates.

World Mastercard

All these so-call "Vacation Club" are just offer free hotel nights
then hard selling their memberships and once you joined
you found that those nights are extremely hard to redeem

Accor has the similar "Accor Vacation Club" with only $50 for 2 nights stay
in return you are forced to join their seminar

    • +13

No with the Citi Prestige you don't have to attend any presentation. I got it confirmed.

  • +6

If you don’t turn up to their seminar all bright and bushy-tailed and sit through the entire multi-hour pitch, you get billed the hotel’s full rate. It’s only a bargain if you’re nursing some sort of hostage fetish.

    • +3

Not for this one - it doesn't mention any seminar in the T&Cs!

Whereas the one for only "World Mastercard" (not elite) - they clearly mention it in the T&C's: https://www.marriottvacationclub.asia/landing/mastercard/

      • +2

        It does mention:

Complimentary three (3) room nights at one of the Participating Resorts. This Package is designed for married couples, both aged between 28 and 65 years old, with a joint annual income in excess of AUD120,000 / SGD120,000 / CNY600,000 / HKD840,000 / IDR1,200,000,000 / PHP4,300,000 or THB2,000,000, depending on cardholder’s country of residence. For Japan residents, guests must be between the ages of 21 and 65 years old for married couples and have a combined annual income of at least JPY9,000,000. Attendance at an approximately 90-120 minute timeshare presentation of a Marriott Vacation Club timeshare product is required to qualify for this Package except for Malaysia residents. It is a condition to the Package that Cardholder and spouse travel and attend the presentation together. If cardholder (as part of a qualified couple) or spouse or both cardholder and spouse choose not to attend the presentation, cardholder will be charged the full retail cost of the Package. Full retail value of this Package is up to USD$1,500 and is based on current room rates at time of print, which are subject to change without notice. If Cardholder does not meet the above criteria or informs MVCI that they are not attending the sales presentation when the reservation is made, cardholder may be offered a 20% discount off the published standard room rates on Marriott.com for stay at one of the Participating Resorts, subject to availability. Cardholder may be eligible for an upgrade to a preferred room category and/or additional nights at a discounted rate, subject to availability upon request prior to travel date. As a World Mastercard cardholder, cardholder will receive complimentary in-room check-in. Terms and Conditions apply.

Correct - but what I'm saying is that that link is for only "World Mastercard". The offer I posted is for "World Elite Mastercard" where that line doesn't exist in the T&C's.

        • +6

$200 and 90-120 minutes of presentation for 4 day/3 night stay is still a good deal.

Just gotta be adamant when saying no.

          • +5

@CodeXD: You don't need to attend the presentation with the Citi Prestige card

          • @CodeXD: $100 an hour, meh

            • @Tleyx: @Tleyx you mean $700 an hour! Remember the OP said it was $1,600 value less $200 taxes = $1,400 profit for 90-120 mins

          • @CodeXD: no need to be adamant. just play deaf and dumb

    • +4

this reminds me of the accor vacation club/timeshare one, where they kicked me out after giving me the giftcard… as i started questioning why i would join, considering I can get a better deal when I timed/planned my holiday well and used there often flash sales easily getting 40% off back then

      • +1

Maybe because of you, Accor stops offering 40% / 50% discount :(

  • Ooooo potential timeshare bs?

  • +3

I've sat through the seminar twice, it was a little uncomfortable but was kinda worth if for the cheap stay at the time.

Not sure I would do it again.

Another note that Cardholder must present their World Elite Mastercard card, together with a photo ID/passport and a written confirmation voucher, upon check-in at the Participating Resort and cardholder is responsible for all incidental charges.

Probably I wont keep the card after the first year $350 fee so would have to pass. But will be a good offer for those living around Gold Coast / Brisbane areas

    • Posted this as a reply to someone else below:

Not sure but depending on how you use the card (Payall, priority pass, 4th night hotel free) and how much you value points, the $700 may be worth it!

  • I'm staying at Marriott Nusa Dua Gardens (which I think is a timeshare) which I just booked through normal channels as it was a room that could fit 5 people.

Would I need to deal with any timeshare crap?

    • No.

    • Would you recommend this hotel? I'm looking to book the Bali package.

      • Yes I would. I really enjoyed it. Not a heap going on around the area (as I think I'd common in Nusa Dua) however it's easy enough to get around with Grab/Gojek and some great food options around.

        • Thanks heaps.

          • +1

@nightelves: A tip - when taking transport from airport, kindly request (in advance if possible) that they take the toll road/highway. It's like $2 extra and it makes the trip from the airport sub 15 minutes.

  • When I click on the link I get a page which has "contact us" buttons. These pop up phone numbers and email addresses for Thailand.

On the other link, I fill in my (Prestige) card details and get this:

    "Redeem Now
Sorry, this is not available to
    Citi Prestige Card
If you would like to check eligibility for a different card, please change your card selection below"

How do you actually book this thing?

    • I personally just sent them an email on the address in the "Contact Us" link. They got back to me after a couple of days and connected with me over WhatsApp.

    • Email the Thailand email or call. They will reply. I booked mine via that email.

      • As I recall last time when I checked T&C says Australian cannot book the one in Thailand, only Gold Coast one.

        • Yes. Australia card only for Gold Coast. But you can still use that email to buy the deal which what I did. But it's too late now. This deal has been ozbargained. 😅

    • Thailand isn't available to you. Australian holders only have the Gold coast offer. Thailand is for Asian card holders.

  • I booked this one for a Gold coast 4 days holiday. Great deal.

  • Website says that

Sorry, this is not available to
    Citi Prestige Card

    https://specials.priceless.com/en-au/offers/Marriott_Vacatio…

    • +1

Just ignore it. Use the link of the post to contact Marriott directly. I used my Citi prestige and booked the deal.

      • Thanks, were there any restricted dates you couldn't book?

        • +3

Didn't realise this is not in the T&Cs but this is what I was sent:

Australia High Season Dates and Surcharges:
A high season surcharge of $100 AUD per night applies over the following dates:
          Sept/Oct School Holidays:
          16 September – 9 October 2022
          15 September – 8 October 2023
          Christmas/New Years:
          20 December 2021 – 27 January every year
          Easter School Holidays:

          Black-out:

Need to pay extra . Other than that just check their official site to check the room rate. You only pay 10% GST for this.

          • +1

@Micky14: @Micky14 - you're one looks more updated! I'll put that in the OP instead.

  • Good deal

  • +6

went to apply for a citi prestige card

    annual fees are $700
    interest rates: 21.49% p.a
    min limit: $20,000
    max limit: $100,000

so I decided not to go into debt

    • +9

They had a promo which was $350 (half price) for the annual fee. With the bonus points on sign up and the ability to use Citi Pay All to move $20k (max amount) per month in a HISA, the card was well worth it.

      • Wish they bring back signature card free for life! :(

      • Some (like myself) even got the $350 fee refunded albeit after closing the card so wouldn’t be eligible for this offer.

      • Don’t we need to pay back $20k? Please explain, couldn’t understand. Thanks

        • Yes you do, I think he is suggesting collecting interest and points between receiving and repaying the total.

  • +4

It's a shame that prior to flogging off the business to NAB, Citibank didn't give us FFL cardholders a free bump from "premier" to "prestige" :P

    • At least one Ozbargainer was able to upgrade https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/278571

    • Just to confirm, the free for life Signature card is a premier card?

      • No. This is Mastercard deal not Citi. So if your premier hasn't been changed to MasterCard you won't be able to buy this deal.

  • Nice deal

  • +1

How did you contact them? Via email?

  • Nice, wish I knew about this few months ago.

Seems the 'most important meal of the day' isn't included. Or is it?

    Good deal

    • +1

      Breakfast included?

      • I don't think so - my booking doesn't mention that breakfast is included :(

        • Oh well good to know at least, thanks

  • +1

Can you book when the card is valid and cancelled when you arrive? Asking because my first 12 months is almost up and don't want to pay the $700 annual fee next year.

    • Same. Not keen on paying $700 for prestige card after the year is over, unless if they offer a half price $350 annual fee for the second time.

    • Not sure but depending on how you use the card (Payall, priority pass, 4th night hotel free) and how much you value points, the $700 may be worth it!

      • Is Priority Pass linked to the credit card? I thought it is separated and even if card is cancelled you still get the priority pass lasting the whole year.

    • +6

      Personally I’ve used:
      1x airport transfer
      1x 4th night free @ surfers Hilton
2 x single priority pass into Rex lounge Sydney
2 x single priority pass use at airport eatery ($36 ea)
3 x double priority pass usage at airport eatery ($72 ea)

Payall - $100 in coles points every month.

As long as my set up Payall continues to be fee free I’m happy to pay annual fee.

      • +1

I ended up cancelled my prestige but apply for the AMEX platinum charge
it got even better in terms of lounge access (can bring up to 4 people with additional card)
[the PP from platinum charge doesn't have restaurant credits but I am ok with it]

In terms of Citi Payall, I have been holding the Citi Signature free-for-life (thanks to OZB back in 2014!), now renamed as premier but still free
and also still able to get Payall setup
So for me, $700 to keep prestige isn't too in my favour
also, prestige $20000 minimum credit limit is a hard blocker these days in applying any new loans given the current high interest rate environment

      • Do you mind sharing how you get $100 coles points every month through payall?

        • citi payall 20k gets you 20k citi reward pts which can be transferred to 20k flybuys. but from october 2023 there will be 2% fee so not worth doing it any more

          • @thekensai:

but from october 2023 there will be 2% fee so not worth doing it any more

That's a misleading statement without the context.
T&C's specify that Payall set up after October will incur the fee.
However you can set up now for 10 year worth of transactions with 0% fee…

Any recurring Citi PayAll payments set up between April 2021 and October 2023 will not incur the Citi PayAll fee for the duration in which those payments are scheduled to occur. Any recurring Citi PayAll payments set up prior or after the Period will be charged the standard Citi PayAll fee of 2% of the amount of the Citi PayAll payment. This fee will apply to all recurring payments made for the duration in which those payments are scheduled to occur.

            https://www1.citibank.com.au/credit-cards/fees-and-charges

            • @johnmelb: I thought the max timeframe for Payall is about 24 months, not 10 years?

              • +1

@Craze: I’ve scheduled up to August 2026 so no

              • +1

@Craze: Each Payal can only be recurring for a period of 2 years.
You can set up multiple payalls with adjacent periods.
Currently my last scheduled payment is for 2035 (end of my last 2y 2033 period).

                • @johnmelb: my last one set to 2033 lol
but using my free for life citi signature (premier), its a real deal tbh

            • @johnmelb: thanks for reminding me bro. i almost went to cancel the card as anniversary is approaching. btw any risk of getting ATO's attention if large fixed amount appears in my account monthly?

              • @thekensai: No worries.
Not sure about ATO risks, you can always provide the source of the funds. Transaction description shouldn't really matter for ATO.

I think the risk is Citibank could flag it and ask you questions and cancel your card and/ or future payments if they deem the transactions don't fit their T&C's.
Citibank called me at one point asking what the transactions were for and what the relationship was between me and person I'm transferring to.
I also got several comments that the rent I was paying seemed kinda high ..
Like any ozbargainer I live in a mansion on the beach with private pool and soccer field, so rent is kinda steep…

      • Didn't know about PayAll - what a neat trick! And thanks for the tip around scheduling in advance, to keep it going for years and years…

    • From the email that I received: Cardholder must present their World Elite Mastercard card, together with a photo ID/passport and a written confirmation voucher, upon check-in at the Participating Resort

  • Good deal but I don't qualify. What's the difference between booking a room via the vacation website as opposed to the Marriott website?

  • +2

    email sent.
    waiting reply

    • I've sent an email a couple of hours ago. Let me know how you go!

  • genuine question: what is there to do in surfer's paradise if I don't like the beach

    • -1

Dont like the beach??? Wash you mouth out.
      Is this OZbargain or UKBargain

    • Woolworths:)

    • I hear their Coles is not too bad

  • So Prestige card holders can get this without attending the seminar?

    • Yes, that's what the T&C's suggests as well as the other link in the main post.

  • I called the number and agent is saying no rooms available until next feb and to secure this offer I have to deposit 99 USD . Am I doing something wrong guys??

    • I recall being asked to put a deposit if I didn't have a date in mind yet. But I already had the dates and once they confirmed availability on the dates, I just booked and paid for taxes ~$200 without having to do a deposit.

      • For me I asked them dates in October and they said no dates available until feb next year ..

      • Did you get any receipt for the amount you paid ?

        • Don't recall getting one but I did get an email confirming the booking with the taxes paid and the booking shows up in my Marriot Bonvoy account.

    • Is there an Aussie number to call? thanks

      • No that’s what make me but suspicious about this deal why no contact details in Australia ..

    • Probably after this post, all available dates are booked out.

  • +1

Seems like some scam as they are asking 99USD for holding the offer 😃

    • Don't think so. The T&C said "Marriott.com for the same room type at the Participating Resorts on the dates the cardholder reserves. Cardholder is required to pay a refundable deposit of USD$99 to secure this complimentary Package which may be used
to offset the room tax payable upon reservation of their complimentary Package. Reservations are on a space available basis, advance booking required. Cardholder may be offered alternative resorts if the Participating Resorts are not available on dates requested.
Reservations, changes and cancellations must be made through Marriott Vacation Club"

  • +1

    Just got the following reply:

“I’m regret to inform you that we already reach our limits for the allotment in Australia site. However, you still can book in Phuket or Bali instead”

    • Ozbargained 🤣
