Came across this a couple of weeks back but it's basically a "free" stay (you pay taxes) at Marriott Vacation Club at Surfers Paradise if you already hold a Citi Prestige. Only the Gold Coast Package is available to residents of Australia.

This applies to any World Elite Mastercard but Citi Prestige appears to be the only one available in Australia.

I was initially hesitant but I went through with it and was eventually connected to an agent over WhatsApp (???). We confirmed eligibility (I hold a Citi Prestige) and the flexibility of the booking (you can change the travel date once at least 14 days before your travel - this is mentioned in the T&C's.

There are some dates that would incur some additional surcharges but I avoided these. For the dates I chose, I paid ~$200 on taxes - normal price would have been ~$1600.

T&C's should have most (if not all) of the things you need to know!

This suggests that "World Elite Mastercard" holders do not need to attend a seminar:

        I think there were three locations to choose from but it seems the Gold Coast location is booked out.

          The Phuki and Bali packages are for overseas cards. Gold coast package is for AU and NZ cards. So I think the hotel probably made a mistake.

    I've done this timeshare presentation at this hotel.

    Because timeshare is now considered providing financial advice in Australia all the salespeople need to be qualified financial planners.

    The humorous thing is they are the duty bound to essentially tell you that it is a poor financial decision to buy it (however it's about lifestyle etc.).

    They were certainly not pushy and we didn't mind sitting through it at all.

    We had a great time, but once we paid extra for a bigger room, and a peak season upgrade, then spent ALOT at the bars and restaurants (including the Teppanyaki) we were out about 2 grand. Had an absolute ball though and didn't buy a timeshare.

      I went a few years back prior to this requirement. The numbers they were spitting out made no sense from a financial perspective and when I started doing some maths and asking detailed questions about adding on cleaning fees, inflation costs etc they stopped answering my questions…

      Was quite funny really, and I guess I’d go back for free shit but I’ll never give them my real mobile number again. I was called for months even though I specifically requested not to be contacted.

    You must sit through a high pressure time share lecture. You will be surrounded by their sales goons with exit doors locked. Do not get trapped, this is a gimmick.

      Do they plant people in the audience who rave about it? Or are all the sales goons obvious? I once went to a mattress thing where everyone was buying mattresses and I was the only one refusing.

        They willl be obvious, wearing uniforms or suits. If one of them don't succeed in getting you to sign up, they will assign others to pressure you more. Avoid.

    If you’re going to do this be sure to buy a burner sim and make a new email to use for the time you are there. When you’re done with their seminar, literally burn that sim and delete the email, because they will call you for months and months after chasing for you to join.

    Don't be fooled into thinking you're booking a room at the JW Marriott on the Gold Coast. Yes - it's the same building, but this building contains a number of floor that are not renovated. The rooms are somewhat reminiscent of the 1990s, the bathrooms are super old too and feel more like a cheap motel room. A massive difference from the JW Marriott rooms. The facilities on offer for hotel and MVC guests are exactly the same. If you have to go to a seminar, they're 1:1 and aren't as pushy as I've seen them in the past. They also don't spam the heck out of you if you refuse their time share offer - which is an absolute flop.

    Just confirmed by phone, Surfers Paradise is fully booked out.

    The Bali hotel is average $90 USD for taxes, Phuket 5000THB.

    How to make sure that the Citi prestige card is eligible ? Offer says world elite master card. Hopefully they won't make us pay at the resort when we check saying it's not world elite card.

        As per terms and conditions:

        Bali Package and Phuket Package are available to World Elite Mastercard cardholders whose Mastercard cards are issued by banks located in China, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, Macao SAR, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Philippines. Gold Coast Package is only available to World Elite Mastercard cardholders whose Mastercard cards are issued by banks located in Australia or New Zealand, and the cardholders must be a resident of Australia or New Zealand.

    I just booked a room for Phuket (well on hold for 18 months) even though I hold an AU card despite the T&C's saying its reserved for overseas card holders.

    Due to the Surfers Paradise hotel being booked out, think they are allowing AU card holders to book Bali and Phuket.
