Sopranos not even close. Good show but nowhere near The Wire. I think its often called out as better because it has simpler plot lines and is much easier to follow. The Wire is very complex and deep which isn't for everyone.
I'd liken it in some ways to how lots of people think Friends is better than Seinfeld. One is the more populist success, the other the true work of genius.

Not saying it's better, but I think that 'Barry' is being very overlooked here.
Not just the greatest TV show ever provided, but the greatest work of American art/fiction/literature ever conceived.

Does anyone who's watched this show have any opinions they'd be willing to share? I've not heard many people's thoughts on the show before.
It's a slow, complex look at the War on Drugs through the lenses of gangstas, police, dock workers, politicians, education and media.
The depth is unlike any other show that I'm aware of, particularly for its time.
There's no "main character", but there might be 50 of them. There's a barely 5 second long scene which completely changes a major characters story which is never directly mentioned or addressed. I completely missed it my first viewing. This show doesn't hold your hand.
Expect to spend the first few episodes confused and slightly bored. Stick with it and you'll probably be one of us claiming GOAT status.

I liked the second (and third) series the most.
Second was raw as hell. Third with kids and how they are born and bred into the system is spot on.
The kids are in Season 4.
