Have you seen discounts at the lego store due to their constant price hikes (more like price gauging)? This is a new set and they already doing discounts on it should tell you hows it going.
The old version was cheaper, more popular(was available for sale for many years and still was regularly sold out) and random stores even had discounts on them.
Don't support the price increases and definitely don't buy at full rrp.

This set has also left a bad taste in my mouth. I bought the old one. This was released way too soon and much of it is identical to the previous release (other than colour). I'm feeling ripped off.

Second, Disney are a-holes. Maybe they kept Walt Disney alive in a jar somehow. Between their intention with actors (underpaid; AI) and to stop producing discs (wouldn't be so bad if the streaming quality wasn't BS) they're behaving like tyrants. Just increase the price of Disney plus to something sustainable and increase the bitrate to 4k disc quality. Whatever it costs that just reflects the reality of it… (And maybe people will even go back to buying discs if streaming is unsustainable)

      • There are other movie/tv companies besides Disney that you could patronage instead

4k Disc bitrate and a pay increase for actors… So $40 a month then?

I think you might underestimate the cost of bandwidth and infrastructure.

Disney are rumours to be exiting the disc market completely. They probably will put the price up, $25 a month, not give annyone a pay rise and reduce the bitrate even further if they do exit the disc market.

        • Sounds about right. Previously they were a pain with returning releases back to the "vault", cherry picking additional not before seen content onto their bonus disc. . Now streaming is just another excuse to control their content and good luck getting those 'BTS' and commentary which I've personally enjoyed

Regarding this Lego set, definitely out of my price range and way too big. Sets this large do most people put them away after building them?

        • Yes. If $40 per month is the sustainable cost then that's what we need to be paying, either that or not have it

    • Wasn't first set lego store exclusive?

The reality is they sold 250 units yesterday and now 180 units left. It will be sold out today 5pm by this rate.

  • Thanks, got it.
Partner has been whining for weeks about wanting it.

  • I bought this in 2016 for $499 when it was on sale from perhaps $599 🤷‍♂️ 71040 The Disney Castle V29. But what’s the main difference between these 2 versions of castle?

    • This one looks like it has been left out in the sun.

      • The one I bought in 2016 you mean?

    • MSRP of the original Disney Castle was $499.

minifigs, colour of bricks, more extensive use of gold elements, new style columns, fixed the right hand side with a fort (which matches to the actual castle) about 750 extra bricks

      • So this is a better castle set then Overall .. Damm why did I have to buy the one back in 2016

  • Excellent went ahead and ordered 👌
