Looks like a good price for a popular modem/router. Has been cheaper here but I think the usual sale price is about $350

*Edit: As pointed out the link above is for the router only, not the modem router version so this could be the cheapest its been??

Your previous price example is for the router not dsl modem ;)

    • Thanks, updated!

    Need more ANTENNAS šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

  • Isn't this the model that Asus blocked from releasing here so that Optus could promote it as an exclusive model

    • I guess not? The listing isn't for an import.

    • Yeah Optus did sell it first.

    • Available via JB Hifi now

It infuriates me that we still need these in many parts of Australia in 2023. The Turnbull/Abbott FTTN legacy is the gift that keeps on giving.

Bought this for $350 about 6 months ago. No complaints. Mobile app is really good

  • This or ax86u?

    • I wouldn't mind knowing what the main differences between the two are also.
Edit : Just realized this is also a DSL modem ;).

      • I bought this a couple of years ago. Didn't know it was a modem as well. Pleasantly surprised. It's more expensive than I'd like it to be, but the software and hardware justify the price.

        • Thanks. Yeah, I don't need a modem, so I guess I will keep a lookout for deals on something like the RT-AX86U or AX86U Pro. I think that is pretty much what I'd be looking at.

AX86u. Even if you're an unfortunate (profanity) that's still stuck with FTTN, you can just use the existing ISP modem as a modem in bridge mode, and use a dedicated router as a router. There's absolutely no reason in 2023 to be using a modem/router combo, the thing is doomed to be landfill-tier once official support ends because having a modem stuck on it means 0 aftermarket firmware support.

      • ignore the modem part and compare pure router performance, should i choose ax86u or ax5400 (i guess there must be a router-only version of ax5400)?

it seems on paper ax86u has more processing power and ax5400 has more antenne, apart from these, i can't tell which is better.

        • AX86u

  • Will this work with nbn fttn/fttb (sorry Iā€™m very noob about this sort of thing)?

    • +1

      Yes it will, its vdsl2

  • What is it with all these modems looking like a Romulan Interceptor

  • Thanks OP. Will replace my aging TPG provided Huawei with this, seeing as I'm jumping ship as soon as I get all my online account e-mail addresses changed!

Who knows…it may actually go a little quicker. I know that at the very least it will be nicer to manage.
