I purchased awhile back Tenda Nova MW5c-3 Pack off Amazon for $96.85 - keep an an eye out there is usually deals across the range every so often.

Performance wise, these were given to casual users whom have it staggered through premises and can get the same speeds in a single storey house from one side to the other without any issues but does has issues to a steel shed 30 or so meters away. The app itself is easy to use for beginners.

Love me Tenda, love me true
    All my dreams fulfilled…

  • Even Tenda Nova MW6 seem expensive at given price point.

  • i bought these a few years back. pretty sure same ones. when they worked i noticed a speed increase but they often dropped out randomly even when i wasn't moving so i stopped using them.

I got an MW3 pack a few years ago for the folks and it hasn't missed a beat in all that time…

      • What's it like at providing a wifi service to your violent parents?

        • They are pinkish, not violet.

  • I got these ~4 years ago for about the same price. While they're good and have removed dead spots from my apartment, I'd be looking for newer technology (wifi 6) if I were buying now.

Sometimes with these less is more. I had too many nodes set up. Now I run a cat5 to the main node in the atrium (don't ask) and have one downstairs and it doesn't miss a beat. I tried with between 3-6 prior and it was a nightmare passing devices upstairs and down. Still not perfect but 100x better than what I had. Double brick fyi

    • Agree, but I've since moved on.These Tenda mesh setups are slow.

  • Btw it uses 5ghz for backhaul and you can have up to maybe 5 X 5ghz devices on your network. Expect most or all devices to be crippled to 2.4ghz

I've had these for a few years, actually run 5 of them, they work well in our large brick heavy L-shaped two-storey house.
Recently upgraded to 100/40 NBN with about 30 devices and these didnt cope well.
After adding in an Asus router and putting these into bridge mode, we have excellent reception and performance.

  • Bought a 2 model set last year for my house. Concrete slab for the second floor. Works well. only 5 or 6 devices connected and noit had any issues.

  • Does a mesh wifi system work better than a few cheap APs? I have a few mish-mash of different cheap wifi APs connected via ethernet to the router, all set to transmit the same wifi name so that it appears as one wifi network. It covers my house pretty well, but often it automatically switches me to the AP that is farther away and ruins my wifi connection. Does mesh wifi systems work the same way as this or do they have extra components to detect which AP is the closes to the device?

but often it automatically switches me to the AP

Yes. There are no smarts between the AP's to handshake you off to the strongest AP. Mesh works it out with its algorithms to theoretically connect you to the strongest and least busy node.

  • It's a very good deal if it's genuine Australian stock.

Wholesale price in Australia is more than this ;-)

  • I've been using these since late last year and they work well. One issue I have is that for some reason, everything is connected to the 2.4GHz band. This doesn't affect usage, but I would prefer to use 5GHz.

    • Like I mentioned before the 5ghz is for the backhaul meshing

      • +1

Plenty of my devices are connected with 5ghz. It's not only for backhaul.

        • Probably depends on how many nodes you have meshing over 5ghz. I had 6 nodes

          • @10101010101: 3 nodes. 21 devices currently connected. 5 are on 5ghz.

            • @puffinfresh: I read a post from someone saying that they fixed their 5GHz issue by turning off delay reboot , in Maintenance Schedule. I did that. Now I have two devices using 5GHz and earlier in the day there were two more devices using 5GHz.

              • @rogerm22: Now after a second night with the reboot delay switched off, I have 9 devices connected to 5GHz and 5 (which I would say don't support 5GHz) on 2.4GHz. So it's working as it should.
