Less power, totally Agree, EU standards.

I bought one of AU version in JB HIFI two weeks ago. it's performance is excellent. stable WiFi connection with wider coverage than my old ausu ax router. I am very satisfied. good router for AU version.

    • What was the price you got it for?

      • +1

paid $442 after jbhifi member discount and gift card discount.

        • This was pretty much the router I wanted to buy as it's supposed to be cheaper than either the RT-BE88U and RT-BE86U, but as usual, the pricing is messed up in Australia. Soon as I saw it was getting Merlin support (it now has it), that also swayed me.

Having said that, I'd also read about issues with it that had put me off recently (one of them was one CPU core running at 100%) plus a bunch of other issues. Have you had any issues with it? Not sure if they've all been fixed via a firmware update by now.

I always see the EU version listed on Amazon too, but hardly see anywhere is AU that is selling it. What was the full price of it at JBHiFi before you used your member discount and gift cards? Also, what sort of discount do you get with the members perks (I assume this is what you used?)? I haven't signed up with it yet as there hasn't really been anything I've needed to buy from JBHiFi (there is no local store in my town so I'd always have to order via postage).

@Ice009: I used JB perk discount and 10% off TCN gift card that purchased from woolworth promotion.

So far I couldn't find any issue on the latest firmware. but I do not use the wifi mesh, FTP and vpn function on it,Moreover,You can use Merlin firmware on it.

Although it is not the best wifi7 router in the world, but it is the most cost-effective product in the price range of $400-500 dollar.

            • @kslcom: Yes, thanks. Maybe never firmware has fixed the issues?

Here's some of the stuff I read if you want to take a look. Maybe these people just got duds, or maybe latest firmwares have fixed some previous issues?

I'll be using the VPN Fusion function if/when I get one. I also won't be using the WiFi mesh or any of that. Will just be using it as a straight wireless router. Is the area you're covering big or not too big? How is the 5Ghz working, or do you mostly use 2.4Ghz?

              • +1

@Ice009: I use 6Ghz+2.4Ghz as wifi7 MLO. I live in 562m² house (not 2 level house). my house can be completly covered with good signal. it still have 70% of full signal when I was standing at the end of back yard. I can feel the significant improvement in WiFi speed and coverage compare with my old ASUS wifi6 router.

But there is a headache problem, it is difficult to find a full-speed be9300 wifi7 adapter in Australia market. I only found 2 model of be9300 wifi7 pcie adapter online. asus, tp-link.

ASUS adapter only compatible with Intel motherboard
tp-link one havs unstable connection issue that was reported online

    • What speeds do you get through a few walls on a 5ghz channel? I have a PC on the other end of the house with about 4 brick walls in between

Really want this router but not wanting to deal with EU version and EU plug

    • EU plug is easy to deal with, lower EU transmit power baked in to firmware is a whole different issue…

      • +3

EU transmit power is only one part of it. The available bands for aggregation were a problem for my Amazon Germany XT8 mesh routers, could only ever hit 80mhz as most of the available bands in the EU firmware were radar sensitive over here.

I had a tinker with an ASUSWRT merlin fork firmware before i swapped to my BE88U, and it seemed like it was able to unlock the available bands so i could get the aggregation for 160mhz bandwidth, but didnt get around to testing signal strength as i had swapped to the BE88U. I just swapped to a superloop 1000mbps plan on opticomm so i may add the XT8 mesh to the network and have a play sometime.

  • Was this not $240 a couple weeks ago on Amazon Australia?
    Or was it another version

    • That was the Asus RT-AX86U Pro Wi-Fi 6 router.

    • I wish :-)!!

  • I tried to price match this with JB hifi via live chat and they said no because it's international stock, but they offered a $69 discount and a further $30 discount from a current promo and it came down to $435.58 delivered.
That was a little cheaper than the lowest price i've seen for Aus stock and I have a $200 gift card form this deal so i took it.
YMMV depending on the rep you get but I hope this helps someone.
