I can't help thinking Maccas are getting desperate after WHO recently raised a warning to limit consumption of aspartame for those who consumes a lot of aspartame. Still no conclusive evidence that it causes cancer but it's not a good look since another sugar replacement, Splenda, is now confirmed carcinogenic.

    • +6

Yeah I've cut it out completely.

      Hopefully not too late.

Went from 8 cans a day to zero

      • +2

fortunately below the 9-14 cans a day for a 70kg individual to pass the 40mg/kg adi.

but then again facebook said it will kill you so i guess they are right.

Remember, daily mail isnt the WHO!, the WHO never told people to limit aspartame consumption to avoid cancer, in fact all they did was

      1. JECFA reaffirm the 40mg/kg ADI, which means you would have to drink 3.5 - 5 litres per day for the rest of your life (for a 70kg person) to exceed the ADI (still doesnt mean that its unsafe btw)

      2. IARC classified it as a 2B carcinogen, on the same level as using your phone, Pickled vegetables, and Aloe vera. Still below the 2A classification of red meat, and even further below the Group 1 classification of processed meat.

Maccas arent doing this because of this scare headline, they did this offer before this aswell.

Also Splenda is not a confirmed carcinogen?, who said this?, a facebook post?

If you are eating anything at macdonalds, literally everything there has a 100x higher risk of giving you cancer and (profanity) with your health than the most researched food additive in the world within a carbonated drink.

Every time I've order Sprite Zero they give me sparkling water, don't think I want to take the gamble even now

    • +15

Sounds like you got Sprite Zero.

      • +9

        Or, zero sprite perhaps?

  • +4

Hope it sits there even when it's free bring back sugar sprite

    • +1

Agree, the Sprite zero is below par

Cancer with sugarfree or Type-2 diabetes with sugar?

I'll drink water while I figure it out.

  • What kind of heat are we talking about? It’s winter!

  • +1

I got this over the weekend from Maccas and dropped the cup on the floor. Neither of my dogs would drink it.

Store I went to had sprite as unavailable on the app. I tested adding it on the kiosk and it worked fine. In true ozbargain fashion I walked another 500m to the next maccas and grabbed it

I had bad experience on last "free" zero coke give-away from Maccas. I "ordered" it on the app then waited for 20-25 minutes, then I asked the staff and she refused to give it to me… Some worker(s) at Maccas tried to protect their company from giving out stuff for free.

    • I thought they didnt' actually know the price on the order?

      • I guess they would assume it's the free said item, if that's the only item you buy.

  • +3

I got this drink and it tastes disgusting. I tipped it out.

    • I am with you. Tried it last week. I think even water tastes much better.

  • +1

wish they just brought back normal sprite - its mcd ffs

    • +2

Agreed. Hate the taste of anything sugar free. Even normal Sprite has a mixture of sugar and artificial sweetener, I want Sprite from 10 years ago back!

  • can't use along w any other app offer?

    • One code per order only- you'll have to make separate ones.

  • +2

The stuff tastes like lowest quality tonic water imaginable.
