Wow pretty good rating for such a cheap machine.
(Even on product review which I hate).

No idea about it personally but love the simplicity (and less waste than pod machines for a similar price).

    • Sunbeam coffee machines are fairly decent. Despite what the Breville gestappo say

      • I'd prefer them to Breville, the cafe series are solid.
My EM0480 conical burr grinder is still going strong from about 2008.

My EM5300 barista max has been great. Half the price of the Breville model.

      • Gestapo?

  • This is or the De'Longhi Dedica?

@Sturt, looks like a better (proper) steam wand on this than Dedica - which has a poxy rubber tube with a plastic sleeve over it.

    • As noted below by repeat the current Dedica Arte I purchased a couple of weeks back looks identical to this and has a metal steam wand and includes a heavy metal tamper.

  • This or the Breville Bambino?

I have this one it has been good so far
The one Kmart sells seems to be the same design with some cosmetic differences
Both have the 1 year warranty

    • Choice reviewed both machines and found them to be almost identical - funny that!

There are positives and negatives with the KMart machine compared with the Deduca Arte EC885/ Sunbeam.
Kmart machine looks like it has a pressure gauge which is very surprising in a $120 machine, however the steam wand looks a bit like the Panarello style from the original Dedica EC685 which would be a downgrade.
For example, here is a video of someone modding their Dedica to put a pressure gauge in.

If that pressure gauge works properly it is a great feature to have (like the one on the Breville Infuser), and useful when dialling in espresso.

If the steam wand is a Panarello wand, milk texture unfortunately won't be as silky as what you can get with a proper wand but modding may improve it.

        • I'd probably trust the sunbeam, but could well be very similar machines internally, (not sure).

That steam wand on the kmart one looks very ordinary and would be a prick to use, looks like half of it is missing or something.
May be able to replace it perhaps (I put a silvia want on my Gaggia Classic, but those machine are highly moddable).

          • @G-rig: Yes, it is unknown whether they are the same inside and changing the steam wand with the original Silvia wand (as many have done with the Dedica EC685) is a bit of an effort, and in the end not as nice as the thicker wand on the Dedica Arte/Sunbeam.

            • +1

@repeat: No worries, sounds like too much effort but easy to change on the Gaggia.
Those steam wands are great and heaps better than the stock one i had with the gross plasic end.

If it were me I'd get the Dedica Arte or Sunbeam (Sunbeam cheaper by the look of it).

@G-rig: I had a look at this machine, the steam wand is not as bad as the original Panarello wand (where it has a flexible rubber tube beneath the stainless steel cylinder).

Steam wand. In this machine, you can remove the stainless steel cylinder to reveal a shortened stainless steel tube, so it will not pose the same problems with the Delonghi EC685, where the rubber tube can fly off while steaming milk.

Pressure gauge. This has no numbers on it, just shaded areas but you could aim for consistency using this.

Pressurised Basket(s). The display model had a 2 cup basket with only one pinhole on the lower layer to create fake crema and allow for the use of course ground supermarket (i.e. stale) beans. This basket could potentially be modified to single wall by e.g. carefully grinding to remove the lower outer basket wall (with correct skills and tools), but will be simpler to just get a single walled basket and maybe a bottmless filter from Aliexpress.

General build. These machines will never feel very solid, as they are a light, plastic construction with a decorative metal veneer. The buttons look identical to the Sunbeam ones. Tank is probably 1 litre or so and does not contain a filter.

For $119, I almost want to buy one to experiment with, however I did this with the EC685 and it does the job I need just fine (experimenting, modding, easy to throw in the car when required).
e.g. I am currently using the Dedica while my DBD is being serviced.

This looks like a rebranded Delonghi Dedica Arte, which is supplied with pressurised baskets and with some minor re-skinning and minor button changes (they got rid of the power switch and added an on/standby button to the existing 3 coffee/steam function buttons).
If that is the case, then all you should need to work well with fresh beans is to get single walled basket(s) and a proper 50-51mm tamper (and possibly a bottomless portafilter if they do not work with the included one).
The Dedica Arte has been on sale for $145.87 previously, and also comes with a proper tamper, so this deal while good, it has room for improvement.

The Delonghi makes great espresso for the money, so I imagine this will be similar.

This is the comment I came here for - thank you!

I own one of these, am drinking its coffee at this very moment and it's absolutely good enough.

You'll want to buy a better tamper than the crappy plastic one it comes with though, should be able to find something online for about ten bucks.

  • Still very limited stock of this deal around that would pair well with this. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/780510
