You can just say way better without saying why better. Pls don’t be lazy and say ‘google it’. If you have some knowledge on this pls share since we’re right here and on topic.

        • I could say you being the lazy one by asking instead of googling it so your statement is kinda invalid… woulda replied without the sas if you didnt start the sas :P

you have refillable tanks that have 10x the amount of ink in it and they cost far less than the cartridges that dry up.

@quikstix: Agree re the snarky comment by @Lps.
I have the printer and it's great for printing (subpar scanner tho). Original cartridge printers have 7ml of ink per cart, and this is generally 90ml for roughly the same price. The inks don't magically disappear. I've had this for 2 years, and still have 50% left. Light printing for school going kids. About 1000 pages and one ink purge (which takes about 15%). The downside is that the heads are prone to clogging if not used regularly. It's a real pain. Apart from that, the expensive ink issue has been resolved.

Re the scanner - it's fair. Not great Ito resulting scan. My older canon scanner was better. The most miserable part is that it doesn't scan edge to edge, so an ID card placed at the end gets it's right and top trimmed by 2mm to 3mm. Annoying.

          • @quikstix: Hey man you really set the reets on me! It wasn't really that snarky was it? Thanks for the info though. Just got to get the dogs back in their respective cages.

    Just use your work printer

Had enough with inkjet that always clogged up on the printhead no matter what models or types of printers

Not really worth a deal neg though is it? Inkjets have been a popular tech for printers for decades.
For the price and capacity this is a good deal

    • They have to be constantly printing. Find that they're iffy if not used in a month and pretty bad after two. I had a laser. Was good, but crazy expensive to run in comparison and the Brother colour I had was a pita in terms of scanning and photocopying. Was aweful.

    • The Epson Ecotanks are quite good, but like any IJ printer, the heads can clog up if they are used regularly.

Not sure why people mix InkJet with InkTank and Inktanks are so underrated.

InkTank > Laser > Traditional Inkjet

Bought Epson EcoTank ET-1810 a year ago, have done thousands prints and ink is still near the top level.

Hint: Any brand mentioning TANK is InkTank based printer, which uses Liquid Ink in the Tanks.

    • Sounds like it’s still prone to issues if not used regularly, no? That was my biggest frustration with inkjets, and laser has been amazing in that regard.

      • I have used Epson Eco Tank after a month or so and faced no issue.
Sometimes it may create issue, which any printer can do, but that's only for a paper or two and that's it. Nothing that would bother me. Really happy with my purchase, ink is enough for 2 years approx with regular printing.

I see complaints about inkjets clogging. The brother MFC I have does a head cleaning routine every week or so on it's own and has been doing this for years. I buy aftermarket inks and it has not had a problem other than a couple of paper jams.

If your inkjet allows an auto clean cycle, let it do it. It works.

Agree. If used at least once a week it's perfect. If not printing for a month it starts clogging. This is not helped by leaving the printer on. Mine's always on but shows clogging if I don't use it for a few weeks. Generally - use often. Ink use is minimal as opposed to having to do an ink flush (15% loss).

I'm a total fan despite the issues. I've never had to think about cost of prints as opposed to my previous colour laser. No getting mad at kids for inadvertently printing tens of full pages of arb images off the net for no reason 😁

  • This is a good price for an Inktank printer. This is $449 at JB.

One thing I can tell you is that Canon tend to have a higher failure rate than Epson, in this style of printer, and it's usually an issue with the printhead (I can see 2 of them awaiting disposal from where I sit). At least with Canon Australia's warranty, they usually replace it (I assume this happens with Amazon, though might be a different process?).

Admittedly my father is using a Canon that is about 4 years old, and has been good so far.

  • I am using a Canon MX726 from about 5 years ago. I am pretty sure it was one of the last Canon printers that accepted third party inkjet canisters. I buy them for like $10 each for a full pack of all colours + black ink. Reading this thread, I am hoping it never breaks.

    • Original ink is also not expensive, for Epson its $17 per color bottle from officeworks.

      • Even at $17 a bottle that's like $85 for a full set, compared to the $10 that I pay. I just checked and it was $20 for four packs the last time i bought it, now gone up to about $25. So even less.

Canon original ink for my printer is crazy expensive, $117. https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/canon-cli-…

        No brainer for me.

  • Can anyone comment does the print head on these printers get blocked with ink like the cartridges. And if so how do you clean or repair it or replace it. Is it difficult.
