Might wait to see what zyron drops tomorrow. Expecting a new 100W charger since the old power pod was retired.

    • Really excited

    • Didn't the powastone replace it?

      • The Powastone doesn’t come with a replaceable adapter.

fwiw, I got this Zyron powerpod in May. It was $110 at the time and I got it for $100 with some random ebay coupon. Looks like prices have increased since then.

I liked their power plug adaptor system. You can slide off the AU pins to get the US/JP pins which was useful for me in Japan. You can also slide in an extension adaptor so it looks more like the UGREEN offering here.

      • Wow I’m surprised it went up. I got mine for $90 on preorder and now it’s $130 down from $150 RRP… hmm.

The 100W on clearance was just $55, you pretty much get a new unit.

note: this is a wall GaN charger, not a travel GaN.

    • whats the difference?

      • -1

Wall = plug into local power sockets. Travel + newer GaN 3 tech, see other deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/793689

        • +2

well it could be, just put a different country's 2 prong AC into the other end

        • +10

This UGREEN uses a standard Figure-8 (IEC-C7) Cable, so can be swapped based on country.

          • +5

@RichardL: Personally, I would prefer a figure 8. I remember travelling years ago with a bulky travel adapter and having to tape it to the wall to prevent it from falling out.

            • @ihfree: Those bulky ones like the LENCENT fall out, but something with an actual adapter may just work better.

            • @ihfree: For sure. Especially well-worn, flimsy two prong, no earth US power points in hotels - plugs barely stay in those things.

        • +2

Semantics but I’d still call this a travel charger as it looks to have a removable standard ‘figure 8’ power cable - I use a similar Anker model for travelling and have different cables for each location

        • Is GaN 3 the same between different brands?

          • @ihfree: No Anker calls it GaNPrime

          • -1

@ihfree: Sounds like marketing babble. I’m not sure why wide bandgap semiconductors (eg. Gallium Nitride) is such a sales feature for consumers. All that matters is it’s 100W in 4 ports.

I guess things like dual overhead cams or VTEC or direct injection are features of cars that most peeps have no clue about but are sales feature and even labelled on the back of their cars.

        • Isn't the AU cable suppose to have that black insulated(?) bit? or am I wrong.

    GaN Charger ,

  • What's the quality/reputation of this brand? Is it in the same league with Anker or Heymix?

    • +3

Closer league to Anker than Heymix, at least in brand recognition and reputation.

Two brands at the opposite ends of the spectrum? uGreen makes loads for the internal Chinese market, cables seem fine but I've no experience with the chargers.

    • +4

      Ugreen is excellent quality.

Have purchased an array of things from them
      -cables
      -usb 3.0 switches
      -chargers
      -usb docks/hubs

Everything* I have purchased from them is quality and still working.

*Only thing no longer working from them is a single USB wall charger, it broke because it came out of my bag whilst I was on a motorcycle going 70kmh, I think I'll forgive them for that one.

    • The charger has CCC safety mark with good review as per this teardown: https://youtu.be/_7opMa-gcro?t=50

  • Anyone know if this suffers from coil whine?

  • Love this kind of connections, I wish it comes with the third prong for ground connections

  • Alternative charger 25% off.

Not sure if better but certainly has more ports.
