Not everything in the world has a direct link. I think there is a factory outlet for Sunbeam in Victoria if you are interested in one.

Else, here's info on the product at least http://www.sunbeam.com.au/au/products/kitchen/em6910/

    • 8 Sloane Street, Maribyrnong VIC 3032 is the only one in Victoria.
Probably ozbargained by the time I have time to get there :)

I have the EM5900 model and my 15bar pump is struggling when I have packed the reservoir with coffee.
This EM6910 and EM7000 have the same 15bar spec. Not sure whether it performs any better.
I have looking for a cafe quality coffee machine. Any recommendation for around $1500.

I've heard rave reviews about the Breville BES900 dual boiler. Doesn't have the fancy euro tag, but has some amazing features for a domestic/ semi-commerical machine.

Agreed. IMHO the Breville machines are streaks ahead of their Sunbeam counterparts ATM.

Going back 6-7 years ago the Italian designed Sunbeams were the shizz, now they've really let their quality slide & I don't rate them anymore!

      • I think a 15 bar pump should be more than enough pressure to pull a shot - try changing the other variables (tamp and grind). I have an em6910 and it pulls shots just fine.

      • I've got the EM5900 myself, and I only miss a pressure gauge on it, otherwise it's pretty decent.

What grind do you do your beans at?

  • There isn't one. I went to the store. If you need the location http://www.google.com.au/search?q=sunbeam+factory+outlet&ie=…

  • The 6910 is a great machine. We've had it for about 6 years now.
I'm pretty picky with my coffee and roast my own beans. I prefer the Thermoblock over a boiler, which is what the sunbeam is.
You can spend big money on a machine, particularly on HX machines, but for what you get, the Sunbeam is great value. You can oftn get them on special for around the $600 with the conical burr grinder.
Always make sure you get a good grinder!!! It's said that you should get a good grinder before you get a good machine.

    • You must have one of the older ones from when the quality controls were fairly high; true they were a mighty machine in their heyday; however, the recent ones have been pretty ordinary IME.

I have a mate who bought a 6910, had it exchanged three times; then Sunbeam ended up replacing it with a 7000 for him at no extra cost, but that wasn't much chop either. Sunbeam, to their credit, were great about it & acknowledged the faults with the machines & proactively offered him a refund without having to request it or press the issue…he bought a Breville BES900 & hasn't looked back.

      • Cheapest bes900 I can find is over $1,000. Not really comparing like with like.

        • Fair point, but I'll bet it's new & not a refurb either. The best new price for a 6910 is ~$600 ATM. FWIW, you could drop down to a BES860 at that price point & still get a significantly better machine with an integrated conical burr grinder!

The upshot is that the quality of Sunbeam machines has deteriorated in recent years; don't take my word for it…just ask around a few forums like coffeesnobs a bit for confirmation.

Sunbeam is a bit of hit and miss… I am fortunate enough not to have any problems, I do 2 doubleshots a day and haven't had any problems so far - it's been almost 1 year now!

The BES860 is still a single thermoblock I believe (BES900 is dual boiler), which is where the EM6910 out does it - the ability to steam milk and extract shots at the same time, as well as better temperature management between coffees. The same thermo block boiling between hot water temperature (90ish) and steam (100C), making multiple coffees will result in shots made in too high a temperature. In case it's not obvious, pull the shot first, then steam the milk.

Yep, you're right schwinn, the 860 isn't dual boiler; only the 900 seems to have that distinction; my bad for not realising that. Saeco owner here! ;)

  • They have been this price at that store since at least November 2010!

Fantastic machines - a little load and we had an issue with a micro-switch so occasionally it would just keep running the shot through but it was easily fixed.

Makes better coffee than a few of the cafes in my area.
