Free Voucher for a Free Hot Roast Chicken from the Deli Department if None Available (Certain Times, Specific Stores) @ Coles

911

Again I had no idea this "policy" existed.
I saw this initially at Markdown Addicts Australia on Facebook

After a quick google search I have found the 7 News Article

I think it's worth checking if your local Coles has this policy.

I wouldn't say no to a free hot roast Chicken voucher.

Have a good day everyone!!

    Yawn

It's a good marketing gimmick provided the staffs at Coles need to be re-educated in a way that they are there to facilitate and assist Coles for customer service. They are being employed to help customers and to make sure customers have a pleasant experience when they are shopping at Coles. They are not the boss and they should not even trying to upset customers. Most staffs create their own rules along the way, new rules everyday! That's definitely defeat the purpose of having these type of promotions.

    • Why?

    • +32

      Saving money = Bargain

    • +8

      beach is free to visit

Wait, what? Seriously? We can go visit the beach for free???

      • +8

Mate seriously? With inflation up, surely people can't eat sand to survive but a hot chook can fill stomachs

      • +1

        beach please!!

      • Depends which beach. Wattamolla beach has a toll to pay enter via the national park via car. Could always walk or kayak and save $12 or find a pensioner or get a national park pass

      • -4

Obviously /\ another poor Victorian. It's ok mate… We know it sounds unreal, but other states really do still allow you to visit the beach without a high social credit score and hand written pass from the massa'. Run, Kunta, run… across the border tonight while you still can!

    • +9

A policy that is dependent on who is on duty. Some overzealous company hero will make up rules not to give them to you (we didn't run out, we just cooking them now - was one of the excuses I've heard)

      • +3

Similar to the price error policy

      • +1

The District Manager probably tells the Deli Manager off when their GP is too low, hence they will be loathe to give any away.

      • +1

Yeah I've had some random made up rules thrown my way. One guy wanted me to chill there for 10 mins while they finished cooking… no thanks, people buy a hot roast chook for convenience…

      • Just record the conversation when asking, send it to the Coles HQ or current affair, then ACCC for false advertising

        • Bahaha. I can just Imagine some dude going on A Current Affair because he didnt get a free chook.

    • +4

Besides, it isn't available at every store

It should be available at every store.

    • +1

      That's not what targeted means

    • +1

Didn't know jv had an alt

      • Didn't you realise you can have 2 profiles ;)

  • +19

Interestingly enough a few years ago I asked the store during the day when there was no roast chicken available about this policy. They denied it. I contacted head office and they asked the store to issue me with a free voucher.

What's more interesting is that where the store did have the sticker displaying the promise…no longer do.

    Conspiracy.

    • +2

I had no idea of this until today. I will check for the Coles nearby me. It's worth knowing. I wouldn't say no to a free hot roast chicken voucher.

      • -1

The policy was withdrawn at the start of the year. This ship has sailed..

        • +3

Not so. Mine still does it and has the sticker about it on the chook rack.

          • +5

@Bdawg: The 2 I frequent also have this policy still in place (collected one last week)

    • +10

I had similar issues the store said if it was cooking in the oven I wasn't entitled to the voucher. I was like that can't be right It was like a 40min wait..
So I contact Customer service and got a voucher.

At store level they seem to make up bs rules.

    • +9

A few months back I was at my local coles around lunchtime. No roast chickens but a sign and sticker on the cabinet advertised this policy. I asked the deli staff and he laughed, thought I was joking. Said he’d never heard of it. I showed him the sign and he checked with another deli staff who said ‘Err yeah we don’t do that!’. Well better take the signs down then in that case…

      • +20

Nothing worse than companies that force you into a position of being a Karen.

      • +4

        Flogs!

      • +1

Ignorance or not knowing is no excuse to dismiss a policy though.

    • +2

YMMV with stores really. One store that I queried made it difficult until I reached out to store manager who unhappily obliged (obvious expression on face) and even tried to shortchange me by writing a short date on the expiry date! And couple of weeks later I noticed the signage was removed from that store (although it was re-instated again later).

Another local store has young staff that happily gives it, although you do have to ask for it specifically (otherwise will give standard "we ran out today" response).

    • I've heard stores can be selective about having the sticker on display, and at least one was called out.

    1. Take all roast chickens out of the hot box
    2. Leave trolley at other end of the store
    3. Return to empty hot box
    4. Gibsmedat voucher
    5. Profit
    • +3

      youve clearly done this before

    • +16

      Return with fake moustache
      Get additional chicken voucher
Repeat with additional disguises ad nauseum
      Infinite profit

      • +8

Hello. My name is mr. Snrub and I come from somewhere far far away…. Yes, that’ll do.

        • +5

I like how Mr Snrub thinks!

        Infinite chicken.

    • +7

      😭😭😭😭 OzB meetup at Coles?

      • Yes, as long as I can have the breast 😎

    • I won't judge you

    • +1

Hide them behind the dog food, with all the gift cards that will be 10% off in tomorrow's catalouge

  • Coincidentally someone asked me about this recently after seeing my prior deal Good to see it is still a thing.

    • -3

There was a prior deal about this?
Edit: I now saw the link you attached.

  • +4

Never managed to get one of these vouchers even when there were no chickens available. Staff always told me to come back later when there were chickens… >.>

  • +18

Imagine doing a university journalism degree, then go on to work for "7 news" and your task for the day is to contact a business to ask them about a roast chicken store policy.

    • +1

As long as the job pays the bills, I guess.

    • +36

“Have you done the chicken story Janice?”

“Not yet, I’m finishing the Kmart hack where a woman uses a study shelf as a shelf in a different room”

      • Some people can have such shelfish ways.

    • What? Speaking up for every Little Aussie Battler what's been deprived 'er Free Chook rights? "Striking a Blow" for all ordinary, decent, hard-working Orstralians?

My Mum'd be talking you up at chair yoga on Friday, no mistake. You'd be a national hero! So widely recognized, you'd get all the plum assignments: "The WAGS" at the AFL Logies, ex-Prime Ministers and Barnaby Joice asking for you by reputation ("… The one what made Coles twitchy about their chooks? I wanna speak to The Roast Chicken Dance guy!").

The World would be your mollusc!
There might even be a Walkeley in it.

  • Please put deal attainment instructions in description

  • Sorry to say, but you missed the boat Op. Those website links are old. I used to use this a bit at various stores. But the policy has been withdrawn. Put a fork in this one…it's done!

    • -2

If the policy has been withdrawn, the Facebook link in OP mentions that they have done it in the last 24 hours

      • +2

Maybe a regional store hasn't caught on. The vouchers are on a pad of like 300. Maybe once they are used up. Then it will be over at that store.
Best of luck though, can't hurt to ask.

        • +1

My store isn't metro but it certainly ain't regional (most sales in the state last year if I recall) and we're still doing it. Will double check the sticker's still there tonight

        • Stickers are still out….

    • +1

But the policy has been withdrawn

No it hasn't. I spoke to a store manager about this last week. He said this is most definitely still a thing.

      • Interesting… I was 0 from 4 stores that used to do it. Need to find the policy published somewhere.

    • +2

I've got like 8 this year. My store has the sticker.

    • I use it regularly. Probably last was a couple of months back. They do have to hunt around for a while to find the book of vouchers, sometimes in the Deli, sometimes customer service desk

      • Interesting, they probably call stall for 10 minutes then the chicks are ready and sorry dude, full price not even 6pm markdown.

  • On topic: idk if it's still a thing, but I remember Woolies having a price error policy where you get the first item for free (of any given product) if it doesn't scan for the advertised price.

    • +4

Correct. Woolworths, Coles and Aldi apply the scanning policy.

      • +1

I thought that they (at least one) had stopped this?

        • +1

The policy still exists. I've confirmed this in writing.
Sometimes when there is a price error they deny a full refund, even when I speak to the manager, so I contact their Help line, where I've always managed to get a full refund.

          • @davebern: Until they claim that the item was placed there by the customer.

I bought an electric toothbrush, it was placed there by them, but in order to weasel out they just claimed someone else put it there.

When I called head office they just made up rules about stores being able to dictate whether or not to abide by the scanning policy.

            • @t25: I've never ever had an issue claiming a full refund from the Help Line.
Items in the wrong shelf are understandably not covered under the Scanning Code of Practice.

              • @davebern: The description on the ticket didn't say it was something other than what was on the shelf.

Brand, and model all matched up.

              • @davebern: Electronics tend to have slim markups for profit. They probably made stuff up because they would lose money….

    • lol i did this once as a kid accidentally

    • +2

I tried that a couple of weeks ago, self-checkout assistant said "do you have it set to our store?" And when I updated it the correct price displayed. Just don't understand why you'd have variable pricing/advertising for a leek. I thought they were meant to standardise these things between stores

      • Yup it's BS. My local one hardly ever has the specials that get posted on ozb, I can't understand it. I figured maybe we're too rural or it's got something to do with franchising.

    • +1

I do it often - people who don't check their receipts are mugs.

  • +3

hide yo kids hide the chicken

  • +1

Claimed one on Sunday… service desk seemed to not know about the policy but the staff went to read the sticker on the warmer.

Gave me a voucher in the form of a $0 raincheck slip.

  • +9

This has been like this for years. Back when I worked at Coles like 12 years ago and then well before that.

This isn't new. This isn't a deal. This is hard to obtain.

    • This is hard to obtain.

      100% agree

  • +2

I'll often check if I am shopping at Coles and I don't even eat chicken. The pupper does however like some hot chimkin every now and again, it's a good way to feed him if we are out and about shopping around feeding time.

A lot of store staff are unlikely to know it exists, it's definitely hit and miss. Few unwritten exceptions like if the oven is not working etc but generally most Coles seem to oblige.

  • Still prefer Woolies Chicken markdowns and their Macro Free Range Whole Chicken when they go half price… keep an eye out and let us know :)

  • I wish Woolies did this. Either lots of old chickens or none at all. Finding that fresh batch is hard. I've tried working out their cook schedule but its seemingly random.

    • My pet hate with my local lunchtime woollies is that they'll do chicken strips/chips/wings in boxes. But the portions are all way too big for one person for lunch. I think it's deliberate. But (profanity) mental.

But that's the store that has cockroaches quite happily crawling around in the bread rolls. And didn't gaf when i reported it. (Perth ENEX if you're wondering)

  • +3

1.Sneak in with a trolley, clear out all the hot chicken in the Bain marie.

2.Go to the deli and order all the hot food.

    3.Dump everything in the trolley.

4.Dump the entire trolley in the furthest isle.

    1. Get out of the store.

    2. Switch with your partner( if no partner change clothes)

    3. Enter store, ask for hot chicken (profit)

    4. Get permanent banned from the store

  • +5

I used to work for Coles - I'd be amazed by the amount of food they'd throw away each night - usually half a dozen chooks would go in the bin. I'd pick the skin off and eat it - I nearly choked once after stuffing my gob with chicken skin lol (it's like a drug) - I do recall a stack of those vouchers on the counter, but I don't think we gave many out.

    • +3

yes totally agree….i used to work for coles, one time i asked my manager for the chicken that we throw away is it ok if i just take 1 home for myself to eat - the manager said no, its a company policy; he said if i take 1 home the rest of the coles employees will take 1 home too.
end up didnt take one home.
then one old staff came to me and said you should just stay quite and just put it in your bag…..wtf?

      • +2

That's generally the rule to stop staff from deliberately wasting food to get it for free.

        • How can staff deliberately make it so that the roast chooks are not sold to get it for free end of day?

          • @Craze: By cooking more than they need…

            • +1

@callum9999: Righto, makes sense thanks. Although I'd think they had a limit of chooks they'd cook each time anyway.

      • +1

just put it in your bag…..wtf?

Which part didn't you understand about that?

        • The unfortunate encouragement of theft to combat douches and their policys…..

          • +1

@TiredKitty78: It's not really theft if you take it from the garbage, as theft involves depriving the owners of the use of their property.

      • +2

If only there was someone out there that didnt have access to regular food. Same for clothing. Targets policy is to cut up old stock and bin it.

Government should put a penalty of say $6 per piece of food (and or garments) thrown away. Will stop it in its tracks and force "wasters" to move stock on at a discount rather than throwing it away. Alternatives such as Foodbank donations etc are ok. Even RSPCA or farmers.
Local bakery supplies all the left over buns to a farmers chooks, cows and pigs.
