Probably because nobody bothered to report it.

        • +4

I'm sure it would have been reported for sure. We'll let the mods decide.

          • -3

            @Clear:

I'm sure it would have been reported.

Oh, so you were expecting it to be reported then when you posted?

            • +5

@jv: Yes one of those reports are mine.

          • +2

@Clear: I forgot this was a thing always good to be reminded so when I'm at coles I can be like where da hell is my roast chicken!

  • +15

Maybe I’m growing increasingly jaded in my old age but man the Coles chicken are just not as good as they used to be.

    • +18

start from the ass and it will get better

      • +3

the ass is the best part!

        • +1

          drooling

      Woolies>Coles IMO

      • CostCo > Woolies > Coles

        • +6

          Costco marinade taste like crap.
Costco doesn’t even deserve a mention in any best roast chicken lists!

        • +3

          IGA>Coles>Woolies

      • Woollies country herb is the best.

    • -1

The chicken in the thumbnail is actual size…

      • +4

The people who negged his have no sense of humour. Go on, neg this too .. :-( .. !!

    • +3

I first tried Oporto when they had one store and I refuse to touch them today. In the 80's Pizza Hut was actually not bad, no one touched Dominos back then, now they are both utter garbage. Ignorance is bliss but unfortunately for an old fart like me, I remember a time when fast / convenience food was not as crappy as it is today so I don't think you are jaded, food really is going down the gutter.

      • +1

God i miss 90s pizza hut. Classic meatlovers deep pan…. chefs kiss

        • Been on a retro kick lately and seen vintage ads for pizza hut, pizza haven and eagle boys. Doing that pulled up Dial a Dino's, which I almost forgot. Those pizzas seem basic, but were well made and satisfying.

          • @Cave Fire: Never bought one, but the Pedro's Pizza ads are corny as
            .

  • Can I use your barcode?

    • Have u seen my baseball

      • ROFL

    • +2

Yes, but they require the original voucher to redeem (screen will lock up when scanned).
The barcode is not unique however.

    • -6

      Can I use your barcode?

Bars are still closed in Melbourne.

  • +5

I often buy one of these chickens to temporarily assuage the loneliness of lockdown but in the morning the sight of stuffing makes me weep.

    • +5

      #brandnewsentence

    • Nothing wrong with morning stuffing IMHO .. .. ……..

      • +2

Depends who's on the receiving end

        • +1

The devil is in the details haha

  • +15

As a previous worker I hated this term and condition. We'd cook too many chickens for dinner time then be stuck with 4hr old chickens later in the night when people didn't shop. So much waste.

    • Were they at least decent about binning the old ones?

      • +8

Sure, but instead of cooking for demand which is guestimated with good accuracy they'd constantly over cook. This was easily the worst thing Coles ever brought in while I worked there.

        • +6

A marked down chook has never gone to waste ever.

    • +4

But what is the problem here? Knock them down to $2 a chicken and someone will pick them up. Might be a waste for coles but def aint a waste for the late night shoppers

      • +4

Or do what Costco does, pull the meat out of the unsold ones and sell them next day as white chicken meat.

        • +6

That’s what my local Coles does. They reduce the price by about 20% in the evening and if they still don’t sell they break them down and sell it as shredded chicken.

          • +3

@mapax: I've never seen coles sell cooked shreeded chicken meat? But if I ever do see it I know now I won't buy it lol

            • +5

@Iwantthebestprice: Why? There’s nothing wrong with it. It’s refrigerated and still fresh.

Love it when my local has it.

              • +7

@BillyG687: Agree its still fresh and good to eat, but going to coles or woolies at 9pm and seeing a bunch of chooks on sale for $3 or so and grabbing some rolls and pasta salad etc, good eating!

              • @BillyG687: How much is it?

      • +2

Really depends on the store, in areas where most/a lot of shoppers walk to Coles, they'll sell out super quickly because people will go for late specials. Old chooks make a great sandwich for the next day.

Areas where people drive or do 1 big shop a week? Often just sit there and be thrown out as few people rock up before close.

      • i know this sounds good in theory, but once people grab all the $2 chooks, Coles will be on the hook to give out free ones. Unless they time it so the last roast chicken is sold at close, they just can't win.

    • +1

They should sell them as cold chickens the next day. Much easier to cut sandwich meat off a cold chicken than a hot one. Even better if they are cheaper than hot ones.

  • +3

If anyone scores one of these I'll go halves

  • +2

I thought they stopped doing this

    • +3

They did according to staff at my QLD store, along with the refunds - during lockdown & covid shortages.

  • +11

Great way to save a buck buck

    • +1

You need to read the times correctly so you can get your pecking order right.

    • reminds me of this chicken attack song…
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miomuSGoPzI

    • Just don't be a cock about it or it's likely the hens will come home to roast.

Never spotted this notice at any of the Coles I visited so far. Although the chickens were sold out

    • -1

So go and get your free chicken djoz ;)

      • Select stores only.

  • +9

Last time I tried it they told me an oven was broken so it wasn’t valid. I’m no magic oven repair man but it sounded like bs.

  • +2

I got it 4 times in 1 weeks. Now the word chicken comes out I just run……..

  • Your avatar makes me wanna puke, and for that I'm out.

  • +1

Does anyone know which stores and what times this is valid?

  • +1

I didn't know this was back on—they yanked it due to COVID initially (during the bad hoarding days). Thanks OP

  • +1

Which stores does this work at?

    • +1

      Thats the million dollar question

  • Deli Manager, then Store Manager, refused to give me one!

Even though I could see plenty of these blank ones on the counter!

    Said done rubbish about COVID.

    HAS ANYONE BEEN SUCCESSFUL??

  • it sounds like if you buy all chickens you will get a free one next time, not a bad deal!

    • Then you contemplate on your life choices especially when you just slaughtered so many chickens just for a free one.

      • not when there are only 1 or 2 chicken sitting there for sale, depends
and I am just saying it is a good deal, but not for me, I am not a fan of Coles chicken

        • +3

It’s ok. I’m just being cheeky

          • @WaterMark: That's brave….some would be chicken to make a joke here :p

  • Even easier, just move the chickens to elsewhere in the store, claim voucher, win!

    • Please don't…. I have enough with pizza in the fruit section…..

      • +1

        Trigger Warning

But how else will you put pineapple on a ham pizza? 🍕

        • But…..I like Hawaiian pizza :( But do you like avocado on yours?

          • +1

@Forfiet: I’m not hipster and rich enough to eat avocado

            • @WaterMark: same :( and I'm a millennial too, I thought that it was owed to me :P

  • +1

    Useless offer

I tried to claim, the lady at the deli told me to wait 5 minutes and reached into the hot oven to pull out a chicken, rather than giving me a voucher for a free one.

    • +1

Maybe so, but at least one was available if you actually wanted one that night?

    • +1

Yeah they are supposed to be out of stock

    • +1

      Offer is…
If you've missed out on a Coles hot roast chicken from 11am to close your next one is FREE

As there were ones about to come fresh from the oven & you were offered one - you didn't miss out. So not valid for a free chook voucher.

      Not a Useless offer
Try again! But check the oven is empty.

Rather, you were lucky. That's the best time to grab a chicken. You just had to pay for it.

      • +1

good point! fresh out of the oven probably better than sweating it out in the hotbox :)

        • +1

When I enter store, I check when cooking finishes. Do my shopping & they have my chook waiting for me at that time.
Stewing in hot box does not improve the experience.

  • Seems it's not a thing in Corrimal Coles.
