Free Voucher for a Free Hot Roast Chicken from the Deli Department if None Available (Certain Times, Specific Stores) @ Coles

911

Again I had no idea this "policy" existed.
I saw this initially at Markdown Addicts Australia on Facebook

After a quick google search I have found the 7 News Article

I think it's worth checking if your local Coles has this policy.

I wouldn't say no to a free hot roast Chicken voucher.

Have a good day everyone!!

It honestly makes me upset. A customer will stick a cheese from the deli fridges in to the dairy fridges and because it's not in the right section we're meant to throw it out

Same for anything non-frozen put in the freezer

The one that makes me most sad is the meat. An animal died for that product and now its body is wasted because you were too lazy to put it back where you got it from. If I were slaughtered for my meat I wouldn't want it to be thrown out just because someone couldn't be bothered walking 20 metres

  • going to get me a free chicken hmm we have 3 coles 3 free chickens

My local coles buddy told me if they had to issue a free voucher it reflects poorly on their performance or something. Especially when the new batch is ready to be shelved. Hence, the store makes there own rules.

Corporate need to plan and enforce this in a better way as for the most customers it's always embarrassing when denied.

Yeah my gf refuses, she sends me, I have no shame.

Same here, I try to convince her to go separately so we can get two but no dice

Reminds me of many years ago when Mcdonalds ran a promo that meant you were given a free big mac if you had to wait longer than 2 minutes in drive through to get your food from time of payment to time of being handed your food. I think the promo lasted 1 or 2 weeks max before it was canned due to how many big macs they were giving away.

    • Last thing my macca's needs is an incentive to go quicker - they've an over 50% rate of getting my drive through orders wrong. And they're not complex orders. I just sit at the window now and go through everything before moving off.

    • I was in Kyiv 3 weeks ago and there was a mix up with our order and we had to wait 10 minutes, they gave us 2 hot cherry pies while we waited and 4 free coffee vouchers when we finally got our burgers.

We just sat there quietly and after 5 minutes when other order numbers surpassed ours we asked if their was a problem, they apologized and the manager personally bought us our food when ready.

The customer service was amazing, the maccas was super clean and it was really tasty and fresh.

you ever think about how likely it is that ~20% of supermarket customers consume ~80% of the Roast Chickens

  • They've tried saying they're not doing the vouchers "because of covid" with me once. Eventually got one. I always take a look to see if they've run out. The voucher usually gets a short date though (a week from memory).

    • Always a week from date of issue in my experience

  • Would this also apply for home delivery?

  • I worked at Coles 5 years and have never seen this lol…

  • Wish they have the policy for the roast beef, always want to buy one but unavailable most of the time.

You don't need to go in to a store and talk to humans. Just call up head office and make up a story and you'll get your voucher. I hit them up for a $20 voucher every couple of months.

    • What number do you call?

"Show me the Chooky!!".. (That's a Jerry McGuire reference for the young kids playing at home)..

is this still on, last time the store said there's a chicken shortage so they don't do it anymore

    • +1

I asked once and they also said they had never heard of this policy… Despite the sticker being in full view

    • +1

That's very creative from that store. Which one was it? Next time they might say we have the chicken, just no plastic bags to put them in

I once went to redeem my voucher. There was only one chicken left. I took it and checked out. Put the chicken in the car and then returned to the store for a voucher

  • Thanks OP. Attached is link that shows the policy, according to Coles, is "nationwide" but "at stores discretion" - although the discretion seems to be limited to supply chain issues.
Please make sure to check for the sticker shown to ensure your claim is honoured (or "earn it" by contacting Coles customer service.

Karrinyup is still blaming supply chain issues to avoid giving out free chickens.

Wish they'd do this with the roast porks. When I show up there is always lots of chickens but getting a pork is often a 50-50

    • Tried Coles Roast Pork and didn't like it, will stick with chooks instead.

      • To each their own, i find it's delicious. Only get it 50% off though.

Can confirm it still is available. Stopped at Coles on the way home to grab a couple of things and saw there were no chooks available. Saw the sticker, got the attention of the person at the deli, she checked out the back and said they were going to be 29 minutes. I said "guess I missed out then", and she turned around grabbed one of the vouchers on the counter behind, wrote an expiry date in 7 days on it and handed it over.

    • What do they expect? Hur dur, guess i'll wait 40mins then because i'm a saint/sucker.

If it's not there, it's not there.

  • Good, except they make you the (profanity) for asking

    All had the stickers

    • One said they didn't, as the manager didn't like doing it after some time of day. I pointed out the sticker, got a voucher
    • One said there was a lack of stock available, due to a shortage, so they weren't constantly putting out chickens, and would put more out later.
    • Sometimes they say they'll be done in 10-20mins. YMMV on if that means you should still get a voucher.
  • Coles are sneaky fukers.
Midway through the Rona Nonsense of 2021-2023 they changed the classification of 3x Coles Stores in the town I live at to 'resort store', thereby circumventing their chicken policy and not having to honor their national 'promise' that if cooked chicken is not available you can ask for a voucher.

This was tried a couple of weeks ago. Staff member said this policy did not exist anymore.

    • -2

This is at Specific Stores, where a sticker it's displayed with this "policy". Did they have a sticker or something else displaying the "policy" and they refused?

      • What sticker? They have been removed for a long time. This is a policy of yesteryear and doesn't exist anymore pretty much everywhere!

        • There's still a sticker at my local. Haven't tried to use though, lady is a bit grumpy behind counter

          • +1

@Ozbargainasaurus: Ask and find out! But all the stickers disappeared a long time ago around here and judging by other comments, the same for them too. You might have the last remaining free chickens around!

Anyone know of any stores in Brisbane that does this?

    • More like, does anyone know of any Coles stores that do this!

I'm pretty sure this policy is long gone now!

  • These automatic reposts are a bit dumb, someone should verify whether they are still happening before they reappear on the front page….

  • i noticed 2 of my local Coles are stickerless …??

there's an article as recent as Feb; but even MDAa instagram post is full of mixed experience
    https://7news.com.au/lifestyle/coles-shopper-reveals-how-she…

is there an actual hack to score these policy vouchers ?
