    • A Legend OP fixed that. I
      Couldn't figure it out !

      • For shame! Presumptious to think some of us don't want a tastefully printed picture of a snack bar.

  • +26

I stopped buying MuscleNation full stop when I realised how deceiving their packaging was. Most bars will use one unit to advertise their values on the front of the packaging. They have listed their Carbs and Fats in grams and their protein as a percentage.

This makes it look like its 27g of protein, but its not its around 7g but '27%'

It makes this bar basically barely more nutritionally stable than a normal chocolate bar. Absolutely gross marketing

    • +10

That's why you ignore packaging and look at nutritional information. Lying there is a big no no

    • +6

It says 18g protein per bar on the nutritional info, I've never seen a protein bar with protein that low.

      • -1

yeah my bad - i just went on memory. It is 18g, which is still terrible

    • +6

I only ever look at the 100g values in the nutrition table because they all like to fudge things.

    • Yup. The protein Snickers and Mars are the better options when you need "junk food".

    • +2

According to the nutritional info, 100g contains 27.3g of protein.
Dividing by 100 gives us 0.273g of protein per 1g.
Multiplying by 60 (each bar is 60g) = 16.38g protein per bar.
This is in line with their protein per serve of 16.4, they've just rounded it up slightly.

      • For comparison, Musashi HPLS bars are 50% protein or 45g per bar, and have been at $2.50 when on sale.

        • +11

Yeah but they taste like chalk

    • +1

That 27% on the front is devious! At a quick glance many I am sure would assume it's speaking 27 grams.

Though it is 16.4g which is a few eggs - it is misleading

      • yeah I prefer to carry eggs around in my bag any day of the week, except Mon-Sun.

  • +1

Thanks OP got one, let's see what it's like.

    • +1

It's one of the less terrible ones in terms of taste/texture. They're not amazing for protein contents.

      • +5

Happy to sacrifice some protein to not feel like I'm eating a turd off the ground

        • +1

Yeah to be fair, they do taste good.

        • Yup. The only other protein bar I think tastes good is the Musashi Crisp ones, particularly peanut.

While protein bars can be a convenient source of protein, they are not necessarily the best option. They are best used as a snack or supplement to a balanced diet.

    • Why?

      • For the most part. Protein bars can have as much sugar, carbs, cals etc as a regular chocolate bar. They might use artificial sweeteners to reduce on those but that's a whole other discussion on affects to health. They're basically a chocolate bar plus a small scoop of whey protein powder added.

In most cases it's cheaper and healthier to just have your protein shake instead. I never know who protein bars are aimed at because I imagine a shake would absorb better and be cheaper in comparison.

If you want a chocolate bar. Have a chocolate bar. If you want protein, have your powder mix imo

        • There's heaps of reasons against bars like these, but as far as who they are aimed at, I would say it's people who value the convenience of a bar compared with the hassle of a shake.

          • @chewbot: I eat them because they are yummy and shakes are boring

          Go on?

      • Highly processed, contain emulsifiers, preservatives and other additives.

    • $0.25 more expensive + Extra Calories to spend navigating to Coles.

Don't forget the human interaction. Yuck.

  • One of the better tasting offerings

  • They do taste surprisingly good compared to some other super dry protein bars. Vanilla custard protein is on sale at the moment too - tried some the other week and was pleasantly surprised and gives you more protein compared to the bars: https://musclenation.org/collections/custard-protein-from-21…

  • I enjoy these as a dessert treat. As a Type 2 Diabetic, these are a great way for me to still enjoy something sweet. Great price, will pick up a few boxes :)

    • +1

As a T2D, are you bothered by Maltitol? I heard it causes bloood sugar spike same as sugar

      • +1

It doesn't seem to affect me. I had a Cookies & Cream one 10 mins after my dinner. BSL was 6.9 when I tested & 2 hours later my BSL was 5.3. Admittedly I also go for a 30 minute walk during that time too.

That said, others may respond differently to it.

Thanks OP and for the sign up notice which gives 100 points/$5. Quickly did a couple of extra tasks (<5 mins) to earn a few more points (total of 230 points) and it took $11.50 off my order so i ordered two boxes for $8.50 shipped. Not bad!

      • Nice, just bought a few more packs with the extra discount.

NQR is also currently stocking some protein bars quite cheap. I can't remember the brand name but the peanut butter flavour is pretty good.

  • With free shipping no minimum spend, this is a pretty good deal tbh. They probably are losing money on anyone buying just 1 pack and getting it shipped.

$20 off $100 purchase if anyone wants to use it while theres free shipping

  • need some RigJuice to wash it down :)

  • Bought 2. Thanks op

  • This will be pretty close to out of stock now, said only 5 left when I put an order in ard 4pm

    • This is how they drum up the FOMO effect .

I placed an order for 3 boxes 2hrs ago lol

      • yeah I figured it could be BS, but I was buying 2 boxes anyway.

Had these several times (all flavours), ignore comments above. PPl dont know what they are talking about.

        27% of a 60g bar does not equal 7g protein…lol

2 boxes for $15 delivered was a no brainer.

        • 2 boxes for $15? how?

  • Nice

  • bought from them previously - takes ageeeesss for shipping
