Isn't that because Qantas Amex cards all are direct Qantas point earn as opposed to Amex Reward Point earn? This would be the same for all direct earn Amex cards that aren't earning Membership Rewards (e.g., Velocity cards).
Yeah that makes sense. I do have 1500ish Amex reward points currently, but these may be points that will be automatically converted into Qantas points at a later date.

Yes, previous one was 10% for Apple gift card, not sure how often this promo happens though.
Remember you almost always get better value converting your Amex Reward Points to an airline rewards programme and then redeeming a flight somewhere. This typically works out between 2x and 4x more value than redeeming for gift cards or other items.
That being said, if you have zero intentions to fly anywhere, by all means, do what is the best value for your own individual circumstances.
I see… I’m new to these. Would you say converting to say Quantas or Velocity is better? Or is there a better option? I don’t mind using it for local flights.
You can typically only convert to Qantas if you have a direct earn card (i.e., you basically don't get a choice where the points go and all go direct to Qantas). It really depends on where you want to travel as to where you convert your points.
It's only available on the digital gift card from what I saw.
