Noticed this on Friday night but had to wait out the 24 hour new member period, $519's the cheapest sustained price I've seen this on here or anywhere.

  • "the cheepest I've seen this on here or anywhere."

    You meant "cheapest".

A low price, offset by lack of local warranty support from SAMSUNG.

    • Thanks, fixed it.

A low price, offset by lack of local warranty support from SAMSUNG.

I'd rather Kogan warranty than direct Samsung warranty. It doesn't cost you a cent to send it to them because kogan pay the return shipping, and it's sent to Melbourne so turnaround is fast. It's the best of both worlds really.

Just make sure you call Kogan rather than email. They are slow to respond to emails, but on the phone you get to talk to a local who knows what they're doing and has authority to get stuff done.

Perhaps, but are you including in your comparison the added cost for 2 year warranty? ($89 for 3 yrs @ Kogan?)

        • Nah… I think Stumo was referring to standard warranty. My mate recently bought a cheap tablet from Kogan. He did not like it (battery life shorter than quoted on the Web site). Kogan sent him a return postage label and gave him a full refund.

The warranty for the first 14 days is important. The tablet I bought from BuySku has multiple problems, no refund allowed and I need to send it back for inspection and will take at least 6 weeks to get a replacement.

Personally, I cannot stand Kogan branded products, but it does appear they do offer decent warranty for imported products you purchased from them from their Web site. P.S. If you bought Kogan products on eBay (with known defects) then I doubt you get proper warranty from them.

        • Stumo how did u go replacing the s3 with the stuck pixel?

        • +1

I ended up calling them. After 20 minutes on hold I got it all sorted within 30 seconds. The (ozzy) guy on the phone brought up my emails with the photos and said yep - send it back. He then emailed me a au post pre-paid postage label and I posted it back the next day. Got an auto email on Friday saying they received it.

Not sure what happens now, will give them a couple of working days, then call them. Someone else I know has had their replacement from that deal shipped already (theirs had a green tint on the screen).

The moral of this story is, don't bother using Kogans "preferred" email method. In fact, email them photos first if applicable, then get straight onto the phone with them.

A bonus moral of the story… Don't buy Samsung phones unless there is a good returns policy, Samsungs QC is absolute rubbish.

        • A bit harsh bonus moral based on a single individual experience but whateves.

        • So far m at a 75% failure rate on Samsung amoled screens, I refuse to believe I'm that unlucky. But whatevs.

My replacement has been shipped fromhk now without any further intervention. Hopefully this one will be acceptable.

        • Do you have a source for that failure rate?

It's anecdotal but I know many people with a Sammy AMOLED screens but do not know a single person who had a failure.

        • I'm the source. I have 4 samoled devices and 3 of them have a dead pixel straight from the factory. I got sick of it so I sent my S3 back to Kogan.

Gnote, GT7.7, and S3 all with dead pixels. I also have a n1 with the first Samsung amoled screen with a dead pixel but I'm not counting that.

Well I've had 2 original Galaxy Tabs, around 50 Galaxy S Captivates (imported from USA to sell), a Galaxy S2, a Galaxy Note and a Galaxy Tab 10.1 and have yet to see a dead pixel on any of them. Looks like your just extremely unlucky..

  • it was cheaper here a while ago but has expired . http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/78132

You are right, they seem to have more stock at $519 than the previous low, Looks like it only lasted 6 mins last time :-)

    • -1

      That was a lot cheaper!

Seriously thinking a lot lately about going to the dark side (with the 4G version of the SAMSUNG S3). I might wait on the next gen iPhone to see if it has 4G for AU.

      • +3

4G and decent colours sounds like the go.

    • +1

But that was a quick and the dead deal very limited stock.

      This one wasn't http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/78897

Shopping Square has a similar shipped price to Kogan. $1 shipping on the white version, but shonkily put the phone price up by roughly the same amount that the shipping was reduced :-(

Just wait until iPhone 5 is announced (12/9). Regardless you like iPhone or not, the price of these flagship phones will drop a fair bit and just get it by then. You won't regret the wait. Btw, I am not talking you into buying iPhone 5, i am saying the price of this good S3 will almost certainly drop after new iPhone becomes available.

      thanx for the tip ;)

Definitely true. When the Galaxy Note 2, iPhone and WP8 phones start hitting the stores next month, the SGS3 should be able to be had for under $500. September this year seems to be a bit of a "limbo" period when you shouldn't really be purchasing a new phone.

  • !!S3 4g got 2g ram !! thats the most important thing right now on a android device! IMO

    • Ha?! Never run out of memory with my 1gb on the SGS II…. And if you do - can't be good for your battery life!

  • Does anyone know if I bought this, I would eligible for TRS?

    • I'd also like to know about the tax refund at the airport….cheers!

    • No gst inc., so not eligible for trs

  • Just got email from unique mobiles stating $499 16gb pebble blue unlocked if i use the code "KNOCKS3"

    Ends midnight thursday

    Conditions

    • Unique Mobiles reserves the right to withdraw from this offer at anytime.
    • Offers valid for purchases through www.uniquemobiles.com.au website only.
    • Not to be used in conjunction with any other offers.

    • Plus shipping. $18.80 to VIC

  • It's my understanding that S3s can come with 1GB or 2GB of RAM.

I've heard the AU stock ships with 2GB ram whereas grey imports like the my Polish one only has 1GB so it may actually not be the same product.
