    • Let me know how you go, dont have time to sit on the phone at the moment.

      • +1

Will do - if they dont want to play I'll give Superloop a try - $99 a month seems a no brainer….

        • +1

I held out for ages and apart from issues initially (ipv6 set up and wholly my own fault) it's been flawless

  • +1

I'm on 1000/40 at the moment and they wouldn't apply the discount.

"Eligible customers: Existing Customers who have not have downgraded from the 1000/50
or 250/25 plan in the last 4-months."

Apparently this means if you're already on 1000/40 you wont get it even though they have no mention of that, I haven't downgraded from 1000/40 I've been on it since release.

    • What's the speed test results? Are you getting anywhere near even 750? Am only getting 500 standing next to ac1900 router.

      • 500Mbps with wireless AC is normal. Wi-Fi 6 and 6E may give you faster Wi-Fi speeds.

      • Speeds never been an issue, 950-1000 even during peak periods.
I run plex for some friends and the upload is rock solid too

  • +2

Too little, too late, ABB lost me a while ago.

    Great service, but expensive.

    • +1

I don't even want to try them at that price. It's not like you need support often.

      • I meant by internet reliability, but having said that most ISP's are on par these days. I rang ABB a couple of times when I was with them and got through quickly.

I've since switched to Leaptel and they are pretty good and much more affordable.

        • True. I had 0 issues with super loop since 2 years and 2 different houses. Pretty stable imo.

  • do we have to call up as existing customer? is there no way to do it online

    • I couldn't get SPEEDUPGRADE20 to work online. It says to call up.

      • +1

no worries on hold now, thanks man

  • Anybody got feedback on Superloop? Their plans seem super cheap.

I'm paying $109 on ABB for 100/40 ongoing. Superloop has this plan available for $82 per month for 12 months ($75 for first 6 months, then $89 ongoing).

    • I’m with them at my house, ABB at my parents. Pretty much the same but much cheaper

    • +1

Superloop has a good network overall and you get 5 bonus speedboosts a month except on 25/10 and 1000/50. Superloop has a 30-day cancellation notice but some have left earlier. Technical support closes at 6pm on weekends and 6:30pm on weekdays. The sales and retention team is in Sri Lanka and billing and technical support is in Adelaide.

Aussie BB does pro-rata refunds if you cancel. Technical support is open until 12am and is in Victoria and Perth.

  • +3

So they've stuffed the wording up on this - its meant to obviously mean if you have downgraded from 1000/50 outside of 4 months and upgrade again then you get the offer.

If you're an existing 1000/50 customer just say your calling about the offer and you will need to talk to the retention team.
Then I suspect your mileage will vary depending on how long you've been with them - I've been with them for a few years and was able to get them to apply the offer to my current 1000/50 plan….

    • Ditto. Came here to post something like that.

      Thank you for the effort.

    • I just upgraded to 1000/50 like 2 weeks ago.

If they decline off to superloop i go haha

      • Originally they declined and said i already upgraded, and he went to speak to manager and said he applied a different retention code to the same effect. $20 off for 6 months

        Happy days

  • If you are an existing customer, the upgrade will apply from the next billing cycle.

    • I was offered to apply immediately or at next billing cycle.

    • They told me this too but apparently the person I spoke to didn't know what they were doing as I contacted them to check that the upgrade was going to go through as I hadn't received anything about my plan change, and they said the person had processed it incorrectly and they did the speed upgrade right away

  • +1

I remember when they downgraded everyone's upload speed because Covid WFH was crowding the servers — And now that it's all over my upload speed with them STILL hasn't been put back to what I originally paid for.

    Ugh.

    • Aussie BB didn't force upload changes. Their rona response was to put anyone on 12/1 to 25/5 and unlimited data for those on limited data. Have you made a complaint using this link?

      • Oh you're right. I was taken from 100/40 $99 to100/20 because they were 'losing money' — It was just in Nov 2020 so I correlated it to the upsurge in Covid/WFH I guess.

        • +1

Yeah Aussie BB upped the price of 100/40 by $10 to $109/month.

What about moving to Superloop? 100/40 $75/month for 6 months and $89 after that.

          • @Twix: I also use Fetch which is included in my ABB plan, I'd have to lose that yeah? Or switch to a normal Fetch subscription if they let me?

Aside from that the switch is a no-brainer

Edit: checked the contract, Fetch goes back to ABB if I cancel the plan, haha.

            • +1

@monky: Yeah you have to return the Fetch box to Aussie BB. If you want to freely change ISP and use Fetch purchase it from JB Hi-Fi.

              Early Termination Charge
$0.00 if Fetch Box returned, maximum $300.00 if Fetch Box not returned
              Minimum Term (Months)
              1 Month

If you do not return the fetch equipment you will be billed a non-return fee (see exit fees) and you will not be able to use the fetch equipment for another service.

              Fetch T&Cs

            • @monky: Pay the subscription, you can then switch ISP.

  • +1

This speed is only available for HFC / FTTP connections.

  • +1

Do these misleading guys still advertise their service as a rude NO - BS product???
I wasted a lot of my time and money with them, I don't know about other people, maybe they're lucky at their location or they are just fanbois, but I regretted giving my money to Aussie Broadband.
When internet doesn't work, there is nothing that the Aussie log can do for you!

  • +1

Just spoke to someone who refused it. I’m on the 1000/50 and have been with them for 2 years fwiw.

Noticed they have updated their terms and conditions.

Previously it didn’t mention the need to be upgrading.

Now you’ll see it does include the magic words “Existing customers WHO ARE UPGRADING”.

    • +1

I got 20 off for 6 months after being a customer a long time previously, they said they won't do it again though. But I'll call and ask and just leave to a new provider if they won't.

    • +2

ABB don't care, I was with them for a few years, rang up to see if I could get a better deal and basically got told "NO", with a little attitude…

Switched to another provider the next day.

    • Called earlier today with the original T&Cs, I pointed out to the CS and he vehemently deny to apply discounts. I was like well, your T&Cs says those who have not downgraded 1000/50 for the past 4 months, so I argued I am eligible? And they say no. Lodged TIO with the original T&Cs and see how it goes. Worst comes to worst, I just port out to Superloop $99.

      • Why would you waste your precious time with ABB or TIO when you have a much cheaper reliable alternative?

Try out Superloop, you will not turn back. Superloop now has much better customer service as calls are answered within 3 minutes. Isn't $99 with SL Much Better than $129 with ABB ???

  • Annoyingly I had to pay for Static IP, which is like $ per month. Never had to previously.

  • +1

Upgraded to 1000/50 using live chat while sitting on the toilet. Thanks.

  • Promotional price is still higher than Superloop's daily price. Is this the best you can do ABB? Lol

    • +2

They have lost their shine lately.

They told me to get my mate who used my referral code to chase up MY credit since they couldn't find it on their end. Add to that their pricing isn't "competitive", the only thing going for them is a local call centre.

      • +1

Agreed. Price isn't competitive at all.

I need to access a bunch of overseas servers for gaming purposes, and this is where SL performs significantly better than ABB. In addition I got static IP by default with no charge and I could easily turn off CGNAT, something gamers are not fond of, or switch to a new IP by self services clicking on their website. So much more convenience than making a phone call. For me, I can't think of any reason to use ABB.

  • +1

Just wanna say @Twix, you are incredibly knowledgeable about all things Internet! I'm with iiNet Ultra cable Broadband and often get 800mbps speeds. Loving it.

    • +1

Thanks @HamBoi69. I've followed the nbn rollout since the beginning and I have used or setup all the various connection types.

  • +1

The current retailer margins seems to be impeding adaptation of NBN Gigabit packages
    https://i.nextmedia.com.au/News/NBN100_and_above.png

    https://www.itnews.com.au/news/nbn-co-proposes-to-axe-cvc-ac…

If the Government is serious about mass adaptation of Gigabit NBN packages they should offer an online only direct retail signup and have a AI based chat support engine to bring make Gigabit NBN packages comparable with other developed countries such as Canada, USA and Europe. If not Australians will face a prohibitive cost to access Gigabit NBN

  • +5

Meh, superloop GB for $99. Moving on…

  • So can this be used to upgrade to a superfast plan which then comes with the free FTTP upgrade?

    • Yeah you can.

  • can someone with superloop who ported their land line number help me out, i an thinking of joining superloop on their 1000mbps deal, should i take the router that comes with the deal or can i get something better for same amount of money somewhere else? (or more expensive but with better speed delivery throughout the house). they offer this ZTE h1600 router if you wana keep your phone number, apparently the amazon rounter does not work if you want your landline number ported.

they also said it takes 10 days to port the number. i dont even use the land line and i wont even hook it up (unplugged 3 years ago due to indian scam callers) but i think why let the phone number go its a unique number and it wont cost me any dollars to keep it.

    • Phone number porting can take weeks with anyone. Get rid of the number since it hasn't been used in 3 years and transfer your internet to Superloop in as little as 10 minutes to around 1 hour. There are eero charges if you leave Superloop within 18 months.

To qualify your service must remain active for 18-months, however, if you cancel your service before your 18-months is up you’ll be charged a one-off clawback fee of $8/mth (inc. GST) based on the number of months remaining.

      • will the eero achieve the 1000mbps speed (or whatever is possible in that range) or will i see like 300-400mbps due to its capabilities, i dont mind spending more and getting something that delivers higher speeds further in the house

        • Your base eero connected by a cable will achieve full GB speeds and disperse that to anything else wired to it. Your internal wifi speeds will be much lower as you suggested, depending on a million factors. If you want GB wifi you need more than an eero mesh system, at greater expense of course.

          • @dangry: can i hook up a second mesh unit($145+) to my gaming pc with ethernet, will that achieve 1gps speed? im talking about the secondary one not the main one hooked up to the nbn router. so have the second one sitting next to my gaming pc and connect an ethernet from my pc to that secondary mesh unit

            • @Roe Jogan: Nope, you'll need to ethernet the whole lot from base router.
edit: I have a (retired now) 3 node eero system, they work but I don't really recommend them for anyone interested in performance.

              • @dangry: damn, why is that? also were you on the 1gbps plan?
also can someone answer this, can i throttle or restrict the speed of devices connected to this router? (not block) but restrict or slow down certain devices. or control if they can connect to the 2.4ghz or the 5ghz channel?

                • @Roe Jogan: Because you'd be relying on a wifi connection between the 2 eeros, unless you're connecting them to an internal ethernet run. It will be fast enough, but not GB, I got 300-500mbps but as mentioned there's a million factors. Yes was/am on 1gbps. QOS is limited, channel selection works fine.

                  • @dangry: this sucks, however you need to test it properly, first you need to run a test via ethernet to establish your maximum speed in that instance. then standing right next to it with your iphone and run a speed test. if you are around 900mbps with ethernet and you are still getting 500mbps with your iphone right next to it, that sucks. maybe what you are saying is the limiting factor of the eero system that it cant deliver more than 500mbps

paying for 1gbps and not getting the full speed, i want to know what device I need to buy to make sure i get the full speed. any help in appreciated. i looked around and found this tp-link xe75 pro, maybe this will do it

edit: this video sums it up, this eero 6+ and 6e pro are bad units.. this guy has 1gps line and his speed drops to 500mbps with this router. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vICtA_yFZZk

                    this is even better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mttZke6nJ9I

                    • @Roe Jogan: Welcome to wireless networking. It ain't magic.
edit: I gave in and use a lot of ethernet cable and several switches combined with aruba instant on nodes.

        • eero 6+ is capable of around 920-980Mbps wired and anywhere from 300-700Mbps with Wi-Fi 6. Get a tri-band Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E mesh router setup if you are using a wireless backhaul.

          https://evanmccann.net/blog/2021/1/eero-wifi-6
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mp3l4pDXtWQ

          • +1

@Twix: i think a 6e wireless backhaul is the only way to go. tp-link xe75 pro

          • @Twix: would you know the real difference between these 2 models? cant find anything online and the spec sheet looks identical, is it just the design?

            "TP-Link Deco XE75 Pro" $330 VS "TP-Link Archer AXE75" $377

            • @Roe Jogan: The design and the ports.

              Archer AXE75
              1× Gigabit WAN Port.
              4× Gigabit LAN Ports.
              1× USB 3.0 Port.

              Deco XE75 Pro
1× 2.5 Gbps Port per Deco.
              2× Gigabit Ports per Deco.

              • @Twix: range wise, wouldnt the archer beam out signals better with its 6 tentacle antennas? compared to a round cylinder built in antenna

                • @Roe Jogan: Maybe but if it's range you are after purchase multiple Deco's.

  • +1

Great to see this is also available to Opticomm customers!

  • I pay $109 a month with iiNet in perpetuity (retention offer I got) and get great speeds (currently over 900mbps on ethernet) https://www.speedtest.net/result/15134970889

    • Why is your upload speed only 38?

      • Australian upload speeds are a joke, i see speed tests in usa 1gbps up and 1gbps down. good for youtubers

  • +5

Rip off, abb isn't any better than a whole bunch of isps, why the inflated price

  • +2

Moved to superloop and haven't had a single issue, $20 more per month just so I can pay for aussie customer support isn't worth it. I haven't really contacted support for either companies and superloop is just as fast if not faster for me.

  • Geez and here I am thinking my 3mb/s downloading steam games is fast 😢

  • I use More with commbank card for 30% atm. Am FTTP on gigabit. $100 p/m
Haven’t had any issues personally, definitely max out that connection too

More people should use the whistle out website too.

  • +1

Hurray! Upgraded to 250/25 from 100/20.

  • Been with AussieBroaband for over 2 years now. And today they showed again why I stick with them.

Called them earlier, I'm currently on the 1000 Opticomm plan, so chances of me getting a discount were slim, but told them, "look the other Opticomm providers currently have deals on the plan", placed me on hold for 3 mins. Came back with a 12 month discount. Amazing!
They're staff are some of the best in Australia that personally I've dealt with.

    • same https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14176013/redir
offered $10 month off for a year, or 20 a month for 6mths.

      • They offered me $20/month for a year. Not to shabby at all.
        Couldn't recommend them enough

        • That's it, I'm leaving them now.

Nah, I took 20 for 6 on a 100/40 plan, but after that we'll see. Maybe a deal elsewhere if ABB don't have a loyalty program of sorts.

  • I love that the whole comment section is taking about Superloop lol.

  • So could one use the 'moving' code first, and then a month later upgrade to a higher plan and get the $20/m discount?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/794540

    • Can confirm, this worked.

  • +1

went from 75/20 to 100/20 and got 10$ off making it the same Price

  • Attempted to get the discount just now, similarly as some have said I was rejected as I was previously on the 1000/40 plan and currently on the 100/20 plan downgraded last month (I downgrade every time time I go away on holidays) I'll try calling the retention team in the morning but its a no I'll give superloop a go.

  • Just finished up my call with Aussiebb. They offered $10 my bill for next 6months I told them no thanks and to cancel my service while I change to Superloop (just filled out the online form now and began the porting) Funny I wasn't even considering looking for a new ISP till they told my I was ineligible for the $20 off per month. Now im saving more lol hopefully Superloop works out

  • Super late, but…. no deal. Exetel have 250/25 for $83.99 for 6mo and $98.99 after that. 500/50 (1000/50 not offered) is $99.99 then $109.99 after six months is up.

Have been using Exetel for over 6 months, so far the speed is identical to ABB and Leaptel. So this deal doesn't make any sense to me.

  • In theory obtaining this deal before it expires also is honoured next month when the prices drop.

Upgrade from 250 to 1000/50 plan for $149 to $129, and from nov down to $109 for 6 months.
