  • Was not aware the International (Vodafone) version had special offers… :S

  • is this one of the old models or one of the new ones announced last week ?

    • +5

Old. New models don't come with a physical keyboard anymore.

      • +8

        thanks bogan (no offense)

        • I take offence at seppos spelling 'offence' wrong.

          /jks mate. You're welcome :-)

    • +2

      These keyboard ones rock

  • +3

Got it for $109 not long ago from Woolies.

    • The 3G version? I thought they were only wifi models for that price.

      • +2

I remember wifi only was $79 @ woolies.

      • Yes. It was on special as well.

    • +1

Yup, got one about 4 weeks ago at Woolies for $109, 3G version. Great little device.

  • better off with the new 4th gen model for $69USD…..omho

    • Do they ship to Aus though?

    • is this new one you speak of 3g? And where to buy for $69 USD? Thanks!

      • Wifi only, and doesn't come with a charger (only cable). Also has the "special offers" - which I think is basically spam from Amazon. Can pay $89 for one without the offers…. can't be that special if you have to pay $20 to get rid of them!

Can be found on amazon.com - but they won't ship to an Australian address, so you'd need to ship to a freight forwarder in the US, or a mate who can forward it on for you.

        • You just stick it into a computer's USB port to charge, or buy any generic 5V USB charger out there. The Australian ones don't come with a charger either.

        • No worries, thanks for the info. Already have the Kindle Keyboard with WiFi only, and as we often like to go overseas, I like having the option of 3g when there is no Wifi signal available in hotels, etc. Tho I guess thats not very often.
This seems liek a great price for the 3G version, except for those who scammed a Woolies deal for $109.00!

        • when there is no Wifi signal available in hotels, etc.

          just go to Maccas…

        • Thanks, didnt know the local ones didn't have a charger. Is it any quicker with a charger, or much the same?

        • +1

Same amount of time. The charging current is within the USB port limit so that will not restrict the charging current.

        • i find my desktop charges faster than my laptop… so there are differences… probably depends on the current?

        • Some laptops don't provide as much power to their USB ports. That's why the portable 2.5" drives come with the dual USB leads, Some laptops need to use two USB sockets to provide enough juice for the HDD. That would explain the slightly different charge times.

        • Yeah, I understand what you are saying-just go to Maccas, etc, (98% of the time, that would work) but on a recent trip to Phuket, at TWO hotels we were staying at we could not get the Kindle to connect to the wifi signal, had no trouble with two iphones, and two netbooks, but due to the limitations of the browser? that is included with the Kindle, we could simply not connect. We even took the Kindle down to the front desk and they could not connect it either.
And when all you want to do is sit by the pool in a bikini, work or ur tan, drink cocktails, and read your darn kindle- that was really frustrating! At home, connecting to the WIFI is no probs, in fact most of the time, I'm sure it is no probs, but murphys law states that running out of books to read will most definitely sync with not being able to connect to a WIFI signal……For the extra $50 bucks over the WIFI model-, well, lets just say I just bought one, and I already have the Wifi model……..

        • sit by the pool in a bikini

and then get approached by an awkward guy with an iPad, like in the Kindle commercials?

  • +1

The new Kindles are available to ship from Amazon.com to Australian addresses. $89 + ship (no ads version). Go here:
    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007HCCOD0?country=AU

This is the wi-fi, no keyboard, 2Gb model.
I like the keyboard version better (w/4Gb) but I suspect all the old stock will be cheaper soonish.
I don't find the 3g worth it, as you will be likely to load up on books at home, not buy them while travelling, and if you really need to buy the local lonely planet, then find a wifi AP to log onto.

    • Thanks for that. Seems the ads must be US centric. But shame we have to pay an extra $20 :(

    • So how do these new ones compare to the existing wifi model? How are they different?

      • These are not new models. Keyboard models are old ones.

  • Oh, and shipping on the new ones is about $12. Also, the older keyboards are available for $99 as a refurb from DSE.

  • Delivery time: 7 -10 business days

When I bought my Kindle from Amazon, it only took seven days (including the weekend) to arrive.

How can you guys be slower to ship from Australia than from the US?

  • Being the Kindle Keyboard 3G, is this not the only semi-recent model that includes free and unrestricted browsing (with a 50MB monthly limit)? Or could that only be found in the version without ads?
It is my understanding that newer models only allow access to Wikipedia and the Kindle Store on the free worldwide 3G.

  • I won't neg the deal but in my opinion it isn't particularly good price. It is however hard to find now and if you're happy to pay a premium for the 3g for now extremely rare version with the page buttons and keyboard with 3g, it's worth posting.

The model is 2x superseded, the 3g is limited to 50mb and virtually worthless. The non 3g (wifi only) model is dead stocked and has been available in AU as low as $60 within the last 3 months locally from places such as DSE, woolies etc.

  • I brought one last week off eBay brand new for less than this, $126 and Free Postage. I got it yesterday in the mail and love it.

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=221115…

I didn't realise the 3G model was only about $20 more, otherwise I would of got that.

    • I'm not sure why you would neg vote this deal then? This IS the one with 3G?

    • oops. My Bad.

      Didn't see that.

  • -1

I bought the same thing (without ads) from Woolies for about $109 earlier this year.
Best to avoid this deal and buy from Woolies or Amazon itself

    • Woolies have no stock……
