Avoid the 1% fee from TheFork themselves.

    • exactly

  • Can I exchange it for my Restaurant card?. It still has value (for the liquidators).

Works with the discounted Coles MC via Paypal for a total of 16.73% discount ($200 Fork GC)

Seems you can make more than 1 purchase if you just change your email (But use the same Paypal account)

Can the digital TheFork gift card be spent at online delivery companies such as UberEats, Menulog, Doordash etc.?

    • +2

It depends on the MCC used by the food delivery platform.

      Past reports have indicated:

If The Fork gift cards really can be used at any merchants using MCC 5812 (which is what this recent deal says), that means you should be okay to use this gift card at DoorDash and Uber Eats. However, I do not know whether TCN have done anything recently to specifically block DoorDash or Uber Eats on this gift card, so proceed with caution…

      • From the info, it seems like an equivalent of the Good Food branding gift card, but just The Fork branding instead.

  • I've never used these gift cards before at a restaurant. How does it work. Do you just tell them how much you have on the gift card so that they punch in that amount on the eftpos machine and then you pay the balance with your credit card/other method? Some restaurants won't split the bill though?

    • +1

Yes correct. You don't need to tell them it's a gift card though, it works just like a credit card (Prepaid Mastercard). If you have enough on the card to cover the whole bill you just pay as you would like a normal credit card, no need to request anything special.

To use the remaining amounts, you need to ask the restaurant to do a split payment and tell them the amount charge. Most restaurants I've been to were happy to do this but of course there are some that won't let you. It gets a bit tricky for places that have card surcharges since you need to also factor that into what to charge the card.

      • Thank you for the excellent explanation. Ye I figured some restaurants wouldn't allow you to split the amount. That's an interesting point about the surcharge. I suppose you would have to ask them what their mastercard surcharge is and then backwards calculate to tell them what amount to put in the eftpos machine. Or is the amount to put into the eftpos machine the amount including the surcharge? lol

        • +1

It's usually the latter, but both can happen. Just need to be clear the amount includes surcharge or not.
