Bring back the trio of $5 differently-shaped hot plates makers from last year!

Or just need interchangeable grill plates for these electric appliances

All set to live under the bench after 1 use.

I had the kmart version and it was too difficult to clean. I ended up upgrading to the breville - the quick and easy pie maker.

  • I have one. Good for the price

  • Very tempted but not a massive fan of Sausage Rolls or Apple Turnovers. What else can you make in this?

Apparently it can also make pastry chefs

You can make what Sri Lankans call hand rolls (some call them Chinese rolls).
Spicy filling in a pancake, then into the roll cooker. Really good

    • +3

Get a pastry sheet. Fill in any left overs you’ve got. Shredded roast chicken, mince, veggies, etc.

Personally, I make a filling of boiled potatoes.

    • +2

What else can you make in this?

It is a jaffle iron, and the right size for supermarket bread. Maybe cut the crust from 1 or 2 sides.

Does a fine cheese toastie or croque monsieur .

I spent 4 years at TAFE doing a chef course, followed by another year to be a pastry chef, and all this time I could have made one for $5

    • +4

yes how silly of you, I mean you could just go to the freezer section & it's there ready made, defrost & bung in the machine…..

      • -2

        bung in the machine

        Now there's an interesting technique

      • +5

There’s pastry chefs in the freezer? Get them out, they’ll be bloody cold!

        • +2

nah you keep em in there they are grateful to be let out and then make amazing pastries & treats before being returned to freezer

I work with a few bakery owners and they all complain about their qualified bakers. Say they are absolutely useless and need constant babysitting. Trays of pies burned because they forget to set a timer, batches of everything ruined because they don't think and don't notice if a ratio is wrong, etc. Constant complaints. They say they have more success with apprentices they can train from scratch, though I guess their training would be limited to what the specific bakery makes and how they make it.

I'll sacrifice today's coffee for this one

    • +4

      Your sacrifice is misplaced

  • Great price.
The 2 reviews are disappointing (from 10 months - 1 year ago)

    • +8

      Seems like a waste of 5 bux……

      • I have one and the reviews are a little bit hyperbolic in my view.

Cleaning is a bit tough, but honestly some of the nooks I've just accepted I'll never fully clean (doesn't touch the food, just the overflow).

Gotta leave it for longer than expected, but also haven't burnt anything yet.

Nor have I burnt myself on this oh so dangerous steam (draining boiled potatoes on the other hand, yes).

Some ppl need instructions for using bog roll.
No wonder NDIS is broke, when "abled" ppl need wet nursing

I actually bought one off the hype in a previous deal a year ago. So far I have only used it once (Curry puff pastry) and my can of apple is still sitting in my pantry.
cupboard. I wasnt too impressed with the results and needed to be heated/pressed twice as long to get the correct browning/texture.

    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/mistral-pastry-che… is not wrong…

    • Curry mince pastry is the best

    • You know, this is your wake-up call to make those apple pies.

      Dooooooooo IIiiiiiiiiiiiiiit

    • What pastry did you use?

      • Woolworths puff pastry from the freezer section.

        • Can you do a mars bar and report back to me? Pretty please?

  • Yes but can you order your groceries off the internet automatically with one?

    Woolies: Was $25, now $5
    Woolies: Half Price!!

    Ummm

    • +6

5 is half as many digits as 25, so there is that?

I have this model and it works great! I have been able to cook a variety of sausage rolls with it and they taste great. At $5, you are not losing anything.

    • +1

You are losing your health, can't trust the non stick coating on these cheap ones.

  • Upvoted for the "That's very cheap" comment (LOL) but won't be buying one!

  • +11

    Another landfill product.

    • +2

it's that or your local op store or pawn store @ $10

      • I just snagged a sunbeam piemaker for $15 from op shop today before I went to woolies to grab this deal! GF is a pastry chef so this will get used.

  • +2

Borg's puff pastry a disgraceful $8.50 at Woolies.

This was $3 and $4 dollars for decades.

    • +1

I grab black and white brand from IGA for $4.50ish I can't tell the difference.

  • +2

I have one of these and I've found it to be fine for the price (and I paid full price).

The thing I love about this unit, over pie makers I've use in the past, is that you use a single pasty sheet that you only have to cut once! No trying to cut circles, no waste, no re-rolling leftover pastry! So that just lowers the effort bar for me to use it, I throw leftovers from the smoker in the food processors with other goodies and I've got a couple of extra meals for the week.

    Some cons are:

    • Cleaning is a bit tough, but honestly some of the nooks I've just accepted I'll never fully clean (doesn't touch the food, just the overflow).
    • Gotta leave it for longer than expected, but also haven't burnt anything yet.
  • +1

Hey, can you chuck puff pastry directly into these things?

    • Roger that. Thaw out the pastry sheet, put it in, add the filling and close the pastry maker. Works pretty well

  • These have been $10 for a while. I bought one a couple of months ago. It's pretty good. Only thing is that it takes quite a while to cook. I think I left the last apple turnover I made in there for 20 minutes.

    • Might be an Ozbargainer. He/She grabbed it for $5.

  • It was selling out quick at my local woolies

  • God dammit, paid $10 last week. I hang my head in shame

  • Allenstown Rockhampton have like a hundred of them!. I bought 4, 1 for the parents and 3 for me or if anyone near me wants one.

Genuine question: why get this if you have an airfryer?

    • This for sausage rolls and apple turnovers, rather than chips

  • +1

I bought one last time it was $7. Takes a while to cook. Great for fillings that are more solid like sausage roll mix, leftovers, samosa etc. that can be heaped up to fill the top half. When it comes to anything with sauce, I found it useless. Baked beans, spaghetti, melted cheese, apple pie with lots of gooey stuff, etc. You can only fill it halfway and even then, it leaks out the side when cooking and you end up with a toastie that's mostly hot air.

  • Would def buy this if I haven't got one already. Good China product

  • I just walked past Woolworths Gordon, plenty of stock, at least 50

  • Woolworth Bankstown had boxes of this

  • shows OOS online

  • Bought one at $10… Go to the Mexican section of Woolworths and get the purple packet of tortillas (so you have lots). Perfect in this thing, just layer tortillas on the bottom > filling in the middle > over the top. Put in whatever meat/veg/carbs/cheese/etc. in this, it all tastes good.

Use it all the time, especially when we have leftovers.
