Request Advice on Cheap Gumtree/eBay/Marketplace Laptop

Hi, I am working professional with office provided laptop. The office laptop does not have admin right but was sufficient for my need and I could open personal stuffs also (e.g. gmail, twitter, news sites, YouTube etc). Recently I could not take a certification exam (from Pearson) as the exam required admin privilege. Luckily I visited friend's home to take the exam from his personal laptop.

Request suggestion if I can go for a cheap Gumtree/eBay/Marketplace laptop considering I will use it maybe once a week. I saw some pretty good configuration laptop (core i5, 8gb ram, 256 SSD, 13" screen, 2 hrs battery) at around $200-$250, but sceptical if I can choose them. I am sure that owner won't take any responsibility moment after the purchase if I discover any fault. Any lead or past experience will be helpful.

Thanks

Correct. If you dont want to roll the dice, go with a reputable refurb company who provide 3-6 month warranty. Plenty of deals posted in the last few months.

    Advice…. Dont do it.
    YMMV

  • (core i5, 8gb ram, 256 SSD, 13" screen, 2 hrs battery)

    Good?

  • Thanks all, please suggest some legitimate store in Sydney where I can check used laptops. I am a basic user ( no gaming, video editing etc), so an entry level laptop (core i3/i5, 4/8 gb, 256 SSD, 13/14" screen, 2/3 hrs battery) will serve purpose.

    • Get one from here when there is an ebay sale on…

(PLUSAUGSNS is a current code for ebay plus)

      They all come with warranty.

    • If you're only dropping $200 .. just go with FBM or gumtree.
With the mark-up those bottom feeding parasites slap on e-waste it's just not worth the effort shopping around.

    • my suggestion is just one word:
      ozb

  • This is not gonna end well….

  • If you are only using it for light duties (Ie I have no idea what your use case is beyond once a week)….

….why not buy new - at least you know battery life will be good and you have 100% warranty

    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/leader-com…

    $247

Otherwise a good place to buy used pc parts is overclockers au, generally very little ppl get gipped there - though you have to be a member for a while in order to trade.

  • i have one to sell if your still looking for a laptop
