Open port in the rear. One up on wife. Worth it

    • thanks! got my theatre speakers sorted, just need to save up for the home to put it in now.

  • Only 1 yr warranty on the headphones now since they're no longer the disty, used to be 2yrs IIRC.

  • Focals are great

  • I've got my eyes on the Mu-So 2 for a while, but still at $2k…

    • You might find it at high-end dentist or psychologists offices lol Why do you need it?

  • Wow very nice. Time to finish my HT build…

  • Now do this for B&W and Rotel. Nothing wrong with focal, Im just already balls deep in with B&W gear :)

I have 705 S2 with matching stands and htm71 s2. The intention was always to get the 702 S2 and use the 705s as surround speakers. I left it too long to get the 702 tho while waiting for them to go on sale again seeings i missed out on $5.5k during boxing day 2020 sales. They never went on sale again after that and now they are discontinued with the series 3 replacing them at a significantly higher cost. Other thing i want are Rotel power amps to run them as the Yamaha Aventage receiver im running them on probably isnt doing them justice.

  • Picked up the Focal Radiance for $699 and bought the Elegia for a friend for $329. While the RRP's probably higher than actual price ($1399), definitely a lot cheaper than other places out there.

Asked the store rep why the big sale and they said A2A was not gonna be selling Focal products anymore. Not sure if the Focal by Naim stores are gonna be selling Focal now?

Focal dropped a2a as their distributor. Then a2a had a fire sale to get rid of all their stock. The 12 months warranty they put in the ads might not be legally enforceable under Australian consumer law.

      especially since they state

"We guarantee that all of our stock is 100% genuine,
Australian sourced stock, with full local warranty."

      • I was thinking the same, surely the manufacturer would have to honour the 5 years? A2A might only do RTB for 1 year and the 4 after direct with manufacturer?

    • How is the radiance? Thinking about grabbing it

It's pretty good - had a couple others listen to it too to get their thoughts.

I've listened to the ATH-MSR7se and ATH-MSR7b for about 4 years straight now, so while this had a similar EQ curve/flavour there was still quite a bit of difference for me to overcome and get used to what "things should sound like", but I definitely enjoy it more.

Large soundstage for a closed back, absolutely mint sounding bass guitar, kick drum, toms and meaty guitar sounds. Bit lacking in higher male vocals, female vocals, snare and cymbals don't quite sound right to me (parts of the trebles a bit lower than I'd like).

In terms of non sound bits, they clamp a bit odd and sorta hard to my head, is taking a bit to adjust to. They're also much larger and heavier than my previous headphones. Passive noise isolation is very good/high - maybe too high for my day to day use since I can't really hear anyone talking in the office when I'm playing music at a normal level through them (not good for people calling my name for attention).

I think they're great, and I know they're technically fairly good, but at this price point your personal preference for the "flavour" of headphone style matters a lot - no point splashing this much money on something you don't really like the sound of. If you can, I'd recommend going into the store to try them out, even if you've got a similar tuning/flavour preference they can still sound quite different. If you're in melbourne, the Richmond store had enough (paid) parking outside it on Saturday late morning that it was easy to find a spot.

What's your current headphones, and what do you like/not like about them? That'll probably determine whether its worth going to try them out. You can check up Crinacle's headphone ranking to see from a frequency what they'll sound like so you can at least get an idea of the flavour. If you do go and you're after closed backs, try out all three (elegia, celeste and radiance) since they sound different. My friend actually preferred the Elegia to the radiance as it worked across his genres of music and his personal flavour better.
