But… that would mean supporting Gerry… The OzBargainer in me agrees that cheaper is cheaper, but the principled, self-respecting part of me says “screw you Gerry!”

        FU GERRY

        Don't do it. F gerry

    • Do you have a link by any chance?

    • +4

I will pay more to avoid Gerrys stores.

      • Yeah im getting eb to match

  • +2

Looks like now standard early access price is $10/day

  • +1

How does this work if I don't own the game, only through game pass? Do I then own the full game if my Sub lapses?

    • Doubt it :(

    • It will tell you to buy the base game

    • I assume it will let upgrade your game pass edition of the game so you can get the premium edition features?

Otherwise there's not much point in this upgrade existing.

      • Sorry I meant would it allow me to play after my sub finishes.

  • +5

The 10% off is standard for game pass members? I think 10% off any game pass titles and dlc

  • +4

On one hand, this seems like a brilliant deal. I did the same thing with Forza Horizon 5.

On the other hand, Redfall seemed like a great idea. Might wait for the reviews.

    • +1

The car pass plus 2 dlc plus vip makes it worth it, not sure about this because it's preorder plus it's Bethesda plus we don't have a clue about the dlc

    • How is this a brilliant deal?

Games used to be $60 at launch. A full game. AAA titles no less. Now we're paying the same amount for one expansion and some dumb skins and calling it a deal?

      • +6

and porn used to come on vhs

It's almost like prices increase over time. If game prices increased in line with inflation they'd be more expensive than they are now.

        • Well yeah Tim, but even 50% of the cost of the full game for effectively one expansion is not a standard we should be happy to have as the status quo.

If it at least had a physical art book or something, then sure. But this isn’t even a full pass with every expansion. It’s just one. Content they kept out of the main game cos they knew how easy it is to get people to part with their money.

        • +1

@Timm You sure about that? Just had a look around at a few calculators and stats, and inflation say from 2005 to right now in Australia is about a cumulative price increase of 65%. That means a complete AAA game at $60 in 2005 should be a complete AAA game at about $100 in 2023.

Given that, if anything, we have gone backwards by quite a bit when we pay for one season worth of content for pretty much $100 these days, and recent trends are to push more and more seasons out during the commercial lifespan of the game..

One thing though, AAA games might be harder to make now than they used to be on the late 90s and early 00s with all the extra production that goes into it to stay competitive with other studios. The flip side is you watch videos on YouTube about devs of old games and they literally slogged it out to release something back then without having access to all the tools and shortcuts available now, so maybe it wasn't actually easier and cheaper back then?

Honestly, instead of attributing it to inflation only, I think it's more a matter of aiming to have bigger profits per year that game studios are forced to by the parent companies that operate them!

          • @aaronsd: I feel like games, movies, tv shows these days are almost always garbage compared to that of 20+ years ago. Especially the story writing and plot inconsistency.

It's like the entertainment industry has got lazy as f, with a few exceptions where teams are super passionate about whatever they are creating.
I think that idiot snow white actor proves my point, as do half the Netflix Witcher writers that are just there to push an agenda or collect a paycheck.

At least wait till it’s out

  • I wonder if starfield is the reason motherboards are in short supply by people upgrading for starfield release. I was going to upgrade just befor the game came out but no gigabyte x670 aorus master mobo available or any other of my preferred mobos.

    • +2

Or maybe due to cheap ram and drop in CPU prices.

      • Oh yeah that makes sense. I'm going to buy a 7800x3d to get the game free because I was going to buy the cpu sometime later this year anyway.

        • +1

Just remember, you need to actually install the CPU and run a program to verify the CPU is installed.

          • @BigRiggs24: Oh crap, bugger. Looks like I'll have to buy a cheap mobo temporary then. Thanks.

  • So you buy this for $50odd and use it on the game you get for free with gamepass?

    • +2

You know gamepass still cost money it's not "free"

      • Yer but you know what I mean

        • So you buy this for $50odd and use it on the game you get for free with gamepass

Gamepass version is only standard version. This is for premium edition upgrade

          • @cute as duck: May I ask why you would buy this upgrade if you don’t own the game but only have the rented gamepass version?

            • +1

@Twisty: I’m not buying this, but the logic is that by the time Gamepass expires for many people, if they don’t renew, this game would be dirt cheap to then purchase a copy of later if required.

            • +1

@Twisty: You have Gamepass. You have the game, you buy the upgrade now you have premium. You get 5 day early access because of that.

For many that is enough, especially the early access part.

If you are thinking of lapsing your Gamepass sub, I can see how that could be a deal breaker. Consider when you are thinking of not resubing, likely standard version to buy will be cheap by then anyway.

  • +2

Just be aware all this does is allow you to play on the 1st instead of the 6th and you still dont own the game. If your gamepass sub lapses you lose all access. Just in case there was any confusion. Personally happy to pay the full price and go through Steam as there isnt a single Bethesda game in the vein of this like Fallout or Skyrim that I havent had literally hundreds of hours out of. Also mods through gamepass version will be massively restricted.

    • the premium edition also includes the first DLC (when it releases)

  • Has anyone had any luck getting Jb or good guys to price match from Costco? Trying to get a decent deal on a Series x.

    • JB are generally pretty good at price matching. Don’t think I ever had an issue, they even price matched a soundbar with a store in a different state and didn’t charge me the shipping cost which their policy says they’re supposed to.

Can always also try the online price matching on their website.

  • Do I need game pass or game pass ultimate to play this game?

    • Doesn't matter. Game Pass subscription of any type will do to get day-one access to the standard edition of Starfield.

  • This works for PC version as well, don't need to purchase twice

  • this is a brilliant way for MS to force people onto gamepass rather than buying the physical version of starfield.

Premium Starfield disc edition is like $170
Starfield disc + Upgrade is $180
Gamepass sub plus upgrade is $70

People are saving $100 just doing it on Gamepass with the upgrade. Just as planned.

    • How does the disc fit in the Series S?

    • +1

      Just a code.

  • -1

Spider-Man 2 will bury this trainwreck

  • Does this work for the PC game pass version of the game? Can't find any evidence of a PC version for this.
