I got it last time, Usb-a charges very slow

    • +3

It does say 5V/2.4A (12W). That's no surprise.

  • I prefer Zyron 65w charger - smaller and comes with travel plugs

    • +5

Doesn't have a pass through electrical outlet which is half of the point of the travel adapter

      • What do need a full plug for overseas?

        • +1

Some devices still have chargers that have AU plug. for example my Nikon camera only came with charger that can only be plugged in to a power outlet, not USB.
Laptops are common this way though PD powerbanks are becoming common. I am able to charge my surface pro via USB after buying a USB to surface charge cable because the surface only shipped with a charger just like the nikon. Both essential holiday items in my opinion.

          • @ozgeek: Interesting. My mobile is usb, iPad usb, Apple Watch usb, if I really want MacBook Air usb, and I would have thought modern slrs are also usb. Surprised people still buying this bulky ass thing for travel. I got the zyron because it was 65w and incredibly small with universal adaptors which I take depending on destination

            • @ChatCPT: I'll be using mine to charge an electric shaver which unfortunately doesnt have a usb charger. I suspect things like this are why these are still useful.

    • This ? https://www.amazon.com.au/Charger-Adapter-MacBook-iPhone-Sam…

$60 with less ports and bits you can lose?

      • thats the one I paid $55 direct from Zyron Australia
love it I am using it everyday to charge 3 simultaneously - stress testing before taking overseas

Bought one recently and happy with it. Good China product.

  • good one.

  • checkout total only $15.66 AUD for me on the 65W?!

    • +1

      New account offer.

  • +5

    Bought previously.
Pins for Au / USA are short. Partly falls out of wall socket, disconnecting power.

    • Big Design Flaw - Prongs are not wide and thick enough for a tight fit, except the UK plug

      • Works fine in a horizontal powerboard. But don't usually take one on my travels.

    Hiya

    Neighborhood cactus tester here.

    I've opened these up.

They aren't good quality. Circuit topology cuts corners, uses cheapest parts available, missing certain industry standard safety features, very very very egregious power factor correction results in a lot of strain to your local grid, poor quality AC pins that are not to specification and standard, poor/non existent surge protection, etc etc

They claim to meet IEC 60884-2-5, but I found multiple points that are in violation of it. I can't find any independent certification of ANY sort in ANY lencent devices either, this also puts into question their claims for other standards they supposedly meet.

Additionally you may not actually be able to charge all your devices with this despite being 65w. The 65w USB C port only supports 20v 3.25A and does not do PD or QC of anything between. So it's unable to do 5v higher amps, 9v,12v or 15v.

Overall I would skip this one. Best thing to do is buy international adapters without any or without higher power usb ports as they will be much higher quality, and cheaper. THEN plug in whatever USB adapters you have.

Anything like a steam deck or any 45w, 30w, 25w, 18w devices will not work. At this point it's basically not too far off from a lower power device.

You'll get much more peace of mind and safety, it's a bit of a hassle but during travel, the last thing you want are for your attached devices to blow or fail because of a surge, dirty electricity, or just the unit deciding to shit itself.

Overall I give this 2 cacti out of 5.

      Should make a YouTube video

    • so could they be counterfeit, knock-offs, etc
compared to the one currently sold on Amazon for $50++ ?
or the one on the "Lencent Offical Store" for $40++
      https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005005925688502.html

      • +4

No one is going to make a counterfeit no-name brand product.

        • +4

          You are slightly incorrect.

China manufacturers shells in bulk, or certain housings in bulk, that then get used by different companies who put different things inside them under their own company.

This is likely something happening here.

          • @SmoothCactus: The OEM manufacturer may make the shells for different companies they service, but there isn't a good reason why you would want to put a "Lencent" shell on your changer.

More then likely all of these "Lencent" chargers are "Lencent"

            • +2

@Aureus: I have found 7 different manufacturers using this shell.

So it's more than likely that is not the case.

You probably wouldn't do it, but companies have good reasons to them for doing so, it cuts costs significantly being one obvious.

              • @SmoothCactus: 7 different companies using the same shell, but with their own brand on it (or no brand).

No other company is putting the "Lencent" brand on their product, because "Lencent" and any of the other companies selling these dodgy OEM products don't have a quality product to back up their name anyway.

                • +2

@Aureus: I can't attest to the other companies though, and it's a bit disingenuous to assume they are all dodgy.

There are many many many instances in which there are manufacturers that charge more, and actually use completely different high quality internals.

This is a super common practice is all I'm saying, using OEM bases to act as off the shelf bits for their products.

This happens from every company you would consider high quality to a degree too.

The 65w USB C port only supports 20v 3.25A and does not do PD or QC of anything between.

From what I can find, it kind of looks like the side port can do QC et al. Not sure I would purchase it regardless, as all the front ports are essentially "dumb".

Dug up some photos from a review with someone plugging in a tester too.

Looks identical to this MOMAX unit being reviewed.

    • Basically… Cheap for a reason

    • This is good content, thank you.

Your comment is literally the opposite of what people here say. If the USB C port cannot support all those devices you say then how are people charging laptops?

      • The laptop is probably requiring the side USB-C that outputs 65W, which is fairly standard for most laptops (non-gaming).

      • +2

No it's literally in line with what I've said.

I've said it can charge 65w devices.

But if it is a device that uses 5,912,15 volts as their power delivery voltage it might not.

        Laptops use 20v 3. 25a for 65w. Or 20v 5a for 100w

Thanks mate, appreciate the effort that would've gone into testing this garbage. On the downside my faith in LENCENT is now shattered, had planned to bequeath my LENCENT collection to my grandkids but that plan has now gone uo in flames.

      • that plan has now gone uo in flames

        Literally

    • +2

If I sent you some chargers would you review them? I can do measurement of efficiency and so on but not standards and track separation / general build quality.

The only other person I've seen to do reviews like this is https://lygte-info.dk/info/indexUSB%20UK.html

      • +2

I likely have already tested them, or tests exist of them if they are commonly available stuff as long as they aren't the absolute lowest end, which this person seems to test mostly.

I test most of the Gan chargers and banks that are available from aliexpress and I do battery bank round ups yearly.

I haven't done a great job collating data and publishing though like this person in your link.

I just never started to post about them till recently, I figured why not so I'll probably make more posts on stuff that pops up here.

If this stuff interests you, ChargerLAB and AllThingsOnePlace on YouTube may be of interest.

    • Thank you for confirming my worsts fears about these chargers

    • This confirms my previous comments about these, suspecting they're a fire waiting to happen. Thanks for your efforts.

    • @SmoothCactus

could you cactus test this ?
      https://heymix.com.au/collections/travel-accessories/product…

Thanks mate, please keep your great work. Been screaming in these dodgy chargers’ posts to make people aware of the non-existent safety marks but nothing can compare to your expert teardown!

    • Thank you

    • Unfortunately only saw your review after already having received the item.

Do you have a unit that you've tested that you would actually recommend?

Also I've no clue how any of this work but the beefiest thing I'll be charging during my trip is the iPad Pro which I think accepts 30W max. Would this still work? You said the 65w port only supports 20v 3.25A, does that mean it'll output that much - no more no less?

    • Any recommendations for something that's reasonably cheap but does the same job as the lencent? @SmoothCactus

  • Never purchased from aliexpress, is there an international fee on card to buy anything? What is the cheapest way to pay with minimum fee if any?

    • International Fee is depending on your credit/debit card, there's not really a cheapest way as it's all depend on your card provider

      • Is it certain percentage fee or a flat fee?

        • You'd have to check with your card provider

    • +3

I usually just use PayPal, it's the best trade off for everything.

You get added security, it's faster and more convenient.
