Paris is the new Africa unfortunately

    • Can you elaborate what you mean by this?

      • Paris Dakar reference….I got nothing

      • +3

It’s not an obscure reference in the slightest. You should go to check it out for yourself.

    • Not sure what you mean but I do agree Paris is extremely disappointing. Spend a few days there then travel to better cities in France. I highly recommend Strasbourg, one of the most beautiful cities I've ever visited.

      • I highly recommend Strasbourg

        Great sandwiches too…

      • +1

most beautiful cities I've ever visited.

Have you been at Xmas ?

  • No Perth :(

    • Etihad no longer operates from Perth

  • Can anyone find any banger one way deals back to Australia around 11/12 Jan to Aus in Biz?

    • From?

      • From literally anywhere in Europe. Cheapest biz flight challenge :)

        • +4

Found DME-MEL for $1340. Will that be ok?

        • I dont do a lot of biz class. What would you normally pay, for reference?

          • @CheapFlightHunter: $2500 to $4000 I guess, it's not normally me paying though.

            • @jaygee: Yeah there isn't much in the way of deals. The cheapest I'm seeing is from Istanbul for $3632

  • These are great deals OP. Any Syd Athens deals around?

    • +3

      To Athens is $1459.
      Not bad, but not great

    Nothing for June JulY?

    • Not yet - also that is peak time but hopefully deals will come up :)

      • July would be banger of a deal

  • Had a look earlier. There's a lot of fine print. 1 month on the tickets, 30kgs baggage can be up to $500 on some flights one way.

    The average I found heading to/from Dublin was $358 extra there on a $600+ ticket and a $400 on a $1050 return.

The total return to Melbourne was $2158 for my dates - and I still have to stuff around getting from Adelaide etc.

Needless to say, this is a definite 'check everything before pulling trigger' deal

    • I checked some too on the Etihad website, adding 30kg checked baggage both ways was $150 total.

    • 30kg of checked baggage isn't enough for smuggling

  • The fare rules say 20kg checked luggage is included plus 7kg carry on. So if that's enough for you there's no need to pay $150 for 30kg.

    • I saw only 7kg included in the sale fares on the etihad website? Edit: Just clicked through, to start it says 7kg cabin baggage but when you click through to fare rules it does say 20kg luggage included…So I am not sure

      • Ticket terms

        Melbourne to Dublin
        Guest 1 (Adult)
        Checked bags
        Included in fare
        20kg checked baggage
        Cabin bags
        Included in fare
        7kg Cabin baggage

        (Total
        Includes taxes
        AUD1,207.58)

        • +1

          Nice, thanks. Have updated.

    • I hate how this is the norm now with airfares. Book a cheaper fare (which isn't actually that cheap), and get a small luggage allowance.

      • It's the standard for Economy, regardless of the base fare.
I've just been looking at flights to England or France for a month leaving early December, and even $4,500 fares still only come with 7kg carry-on and 20- to 23kg checked baggage as default.

It's really difficult to find out how much extra baggage will cost, or how much Economy Premium (or any of the other myriad Economy fake-upgrades) will cost.

Just to complicate it further, if one leg of your journey is on another carrier the allowance is likely to be different, ie, I saw Lufthansa Sydney to Heathrow with a changeover at LAX, but the final leg was a different carrier, so the slightly more generous Lufthansa cabin allowance (an additional handbag or laptop on top of the single 7kg cabin bag) would have incurred an excess baggage fee for the final leg! The latter carrier only permits 5kg carry-on!

Booking flights has really becomes a soul-sapping experience.

      • Id you dont need it then it makes it cheaper than paying for something you dont need

  • Looking for flights Brisbane to Montreal/Toronto to arrive by 17th May

Without knowing how long you want to go for, here are some two week trips for $1540. Not bad for eastern canada

    4 Star Etihad…….hmmm

Recent flight with the family. Still using the B777 for the SYD-AUH. Terribe/Terrible plane. 74dB I recored on my phone average 76dB max…try getting any rest through that even with my class 5 ear plugs (which make a HUGE difference BTW, so don't forget them) Seats have little leg room. IFE was the old system, so f** all to watch with terrible audio/video quality…must be like 100kbs bitrates for the video. The toilet is so small, and there is silcone replairs everywhere, loose hindges & panels. The sink blocked in one toilet so no-one could wash their hands, and another toilet was out of order halfway through the flight. These B777 on this SYD-AUH leg are just over-used and abused. They are not suitable for 14hr flight.

Mains were better then last time I flew pre COVID, we could eat the mains, everything else was way below average. Food was a main, a rice or pasta dish with a sause, a bread roll (hard and cold), a salad and a dessert both in small cups. Cheese, fruit, crackers, all cut from service (i.e no longer served)

The Dreamliners are a heaps better, and the A380's are even better again. Next time we will take the plane into consideration. Emirates are using the A380 so will probaly go back to them next year. We only few Etihad for baggage allowance and the lounge status we have….which BTW is a scam because they have like one worker at the desk and there is always a queue, so if the transfer is short, you will miss out on the lounge. Also, the food is even worse then the plane.

Good points was the 45Kg checked in baggage allowance, but we did spend 20K on flights (which was the going rate at that time, so f**k all I could do about that)

    This price is pretty good.

I didn't even realise that Etihad is using original B777's, not B777-300ERs.

      • I'm pretty sure they are 777-300ERs, it's just in the ticket it says 777. But I should have written B773.

    • How did you get 45kg checked baggage? - did you fly business class, or upgrade the allowance or something?
When I looked it up yesterday the allowance for standard economy class said 20kg standard upgradable through pre-booking to a max 32kg - but i couldn't find the price for the upgrade without having a booking reference to input.

  • any deals for Syd-Toronto return around december?

  • What's ex?

Very good price with a top notch airline - basically pre-covid prices to Europe.

CDG airport in Paris is a major hub, you can use that as a port to get into Europe and fly onwards wherever you like.

    • +5

This is Europe, with proper train services, so instead of flying locally - take a train onwards to elsewhere in Europe.

There is a TGV train station at CDG, with fast trains going to the rest of France and Brussels.

Also shuttle from CDG to main city train stations, and from there fast trains to the UK, Spain, Italy, Germany, etc.

      • Jef knows … this is the way. Take my +1

  • Will the big price increases at peak times ever stop? Looking forward over the next 12 months there still seems to be much more variation than pre-covid times.

    • You’d think that eventually everyone gets the pent-up travel demand out of their systems and demand drops back enough for prices to normalise.

So far I’m not seeing it, mind you!

      • It's more of a supply issue than a demand issue - many airlines have not resumed previous routes and/or frequency and or capacity

Amazing deal, just booked Melbourne to Dublin 31/10/2023 - 16/11/2023. Thanks!

Amazing! Have a great trip! :)

  • Just found this post…it doesn't look like Etihad have anymore cheap routes from Syd (or Melb) to Dublin/Milan/Paris…
