Swann 6 Camera 8 Channel 4K Ultra HD DVR Security System $749.95 Delivered @ Official Swann Store via Kogan

Was reviewing some security cameras for the in-Laws and came across this. Did some Googling of the model number (SODVK-855804WL2D) and found a few places like Catch up around the $1,000 mark.

Bunnings has it for $800. Note - It is a special order product, so you have to wait for C&C at Bunnings.

For all of our Costco friends, they have it for $699.99 but appear to be OOS.

For guys interested, its BNC not POE

      Almost 120m of it :O

    • BNC and POE are totally different things. why compare…

      • Uhm - to let people know this is likely a poor choice?

Mind you not a huge fan of Swann in the first place but being BNC makes it even worse.

You won't tell the difference between picture from a high-res analogue vs IP camera. Coaxial installations might be harder to do than cat5, but for many people equally painful.

It's just the brand itself is crap, not the way the product is made.

@vovka: Was more talking about the fact Cat5E-Cat6a is useful to have around the house for future cameras/doorbells or anything ethernet related. BNC is really only for the older style camera. Also the Swann system I did have about a decade ago had the BNC + a 12V line that needed to be pulled, then a bunch of 12V power packs to have sitting somewhere. I'm not sure BNC can carry power now?

Even so PoE is surely a far better option?

No PoE cameras - no buy IMO. It's a low price for a 6 x 4k camera system, but a poor investment - this camera system is effectively obsolete and will never be able to be upgraded or work beyond Swann's limited ecosystem.

  • Any recommendations for a good set of camera around the house?

    • This deal?

      • Not really personally.

Biggest install I've done with a cabler was a 40 camera system so I'm by no means a huge security expert, but at the very least I'd go PoE setup as you can easily re-use the cabling between any of the myriads of PoE security camera systems you can buy these days.

I'm a little surprised BNC is still around to be honest.

If you want to stay really budget maybe Reolink or things around that price point, moving up you have Dahua and HIKVision or it's consumer counterpart HiLook.
