Be aware that these have probably been sitting for a while so wont be as fresh as newly roasted packets.
How do i know because i have bought coffee from amazon before and they have been sitting for a while so i don't buy coffee from amazon anymore. just mt 2c worth

    • How long is a while with your previous experience? 6 weeks is probably the absolute limit.

      • best before September 2023 it only had 3 weeks or less left if i remember correctly.

    • agreed.
i did the same thing. old stale beans. zero crema could be produced. i only buy when there is a sale on freshly roasted beans now. you do pay a little more, but a zillion times better.

Cheaper than aldi now,and I don't mind these for aeropress at work, thanks OP!

    • +9

Yeah but at least with Aldi you can check the roast date & decide if you want to buy or wait for a fresher batch to hit the shelves.

Also it's not cheaper than Aldi Dark Roast 1kg $11.99. Medium roast is $14.99.

      • Last time I checked I couldn't find roast date in Aldi beans? Is it a somewhat cryptic code?

        • +1

on the side somwhere, hard to read but its there

        • +2

on the side, below the expiry date. Roast date is YYMMDD

      • Thanks, I couldn't see any dark roast at my local Aldi last week so was going off the $14.99 price.

Yes these are a bit hit and miss with roast date but they're mass market so I can forgive a month or so older, I'm obviously no connoisseur of coffee!

I assumed dark and medium would be the same price, and the brazil aldi is 17.99 at my local one.

    • ¯_(ツ)_/¯

      • +1

missing an arm, here you go …. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • +2

Thanks. I prefer the Smooth and they are also same price.

  • whats the roast date on these?

  • Others are also available but you may have to search. Eg "Very Strong" aren't listed in the Harris store for me but are the same price

  • +1

if you want freshly roasted beans you wont get them for $15 per kg.
these are good for people who like coffee and want something bit better then instant

if your picky - look for some inner city roastery that will charge you $60 per kg

    • +3

So $50 per kg no good?

    • wow $60/kg! This economy is not discouraging people from expensive habits.
I will stick with my nescafe blend 43.

    • +3

It's way more than a bit better than instant. Honestly, I've had plenty of $50-60 per kg beans that have made worse espresso than these Harris beans. I've had better as well, but it's hard to quantify those $60/kg beans as being 4x as good as these.

look, I agree - Im an Aldi beans person and for last 2 years my wife has been making me a coffee by underdoing and never cleaning the grinder - I still thought it was good….but BOY, now that I bought scales and cleaned out and adjusted the grinder, its Caffe quality to me!

    • +1

if you want freshly roasted beans you wont get them for $15 per kg.

You can get beans at Aldi that have only been roasted a couple of weeks prior.

  • +2

For ~$15per/kg I find these beans to be the best value for money. Really enjoy the taste of the smooth flavour.

  • The bag i got last year on sale for similar price was awesome and fresly roasted. Bought it again a few weeks ago at same price and the bag arrived a month away from expiry. Tasted like ass. Threw it out. Luck of the draw.

    • +5

how do you know what ass tastes like

      • Try before you cried…. XD

    • Got the smooth one delivered today expiry Jun 2024 - it will be good enough.

  • Aldi / Coles is a better option for the same price?

    • i thought that too, until i bought it. not impressed. great cheap price though. i only buy freshly roasted beans now. it makes a world of difference.

  • Last time I think I got it for about $13.60. When it arrived there was a hole in the bag. I put the claim through to Amazon and they sent me a replacement bag for free

  • In my personal experience Harris coffee beans tastes really bad. I much prefer the $12 coles coffee beans than theirs.

  • I know quality and dates matter.. so I must be a heathen for having no issue with marked down $4 for 1kg of Brasilia with a best before of May, straight espresso from a french press. The caffeine hit is still there.

  • hear ye, here ye Harris Strong Coffee Beans, 1kgHarris Strong Coffee Beans, 1kg

  • Got these once and were useless in the espresso machine due to age. Maybe ok for plunger/aeropress.

  • Amazon price matching any LGA Colesworths?

For $15.50, I'd want to check the roast date

  • +1

Had these before ..I think they were $10 or something close to that … ALDI dark roast is definitely better, unless I'm getting a pack from an independent roaster I usually just stick the Aldi ones.

    • +1

I'm going baller next time & will try the Aldi Colombia 1kg $18.99.

      • any on the shelf stuff isn't good if you have taste buds. freshly roasted locally is the way to go. it is an absolute game changer.
