Used Fence Palings Fair Price?

What's a fair price on used fence palings? To add a few years of life to my dodgy fence I am going to replace some fence palings that are either broken or rotten. Bunnings sell them for about $2.70 each. Someone has a bunch from a fence they pulled down. Probably 15 years old, which is good because they fit in with my current palings. What's a fair price? I've no idea. Here's a picture. Not rotten just aged which is what I need. https://ibb.co/JCx50Q1

      Thats very generous of you
Usually they pay people to take them away!

  • +6

Offer to take them away at no cost, otherwise they will need to dispose of them at a cost

    • Yeah about $15 here to do that.

Anything cheaper than new ($2.70) is a win.

How much is the seller asking and are you comfortable with it? If so, then buy.

Can't imagine there's a market for these that you can gauge / compare prices with.

Yeah not much of a market. He's wanting me to make an offer. They just about 25 years (that's how old mine are). Maybe 20% price of new ones which is 50 cents each.

    $0
The fencer near me gives them away for free.

    • +2

fencers near me poke with a foil

    • New ones? Lucky.

      • Occasionally, yes.

A fair price on those would be free

    • Yes but they definitely won't do that.

  • How many do you need? It would be annoying for the seller if you bought just over half and they were stuck with the rest.

  • $1 ea if in good condition? What’s old mate gonna do? Chuck em in lots with with the weekly rubbish run lol

    What's a fair price?

    $0, its 'rubbish' basically.

    • Yup but they will dump them if they can't get anything for them. Then I'm paying out $2.80 each to buy new.

      • It normally costs people money to dump them….. Offer them what you think its worth. $20 for the lot then.

  • $259035.00 $35 for the termite infested palings, $259,000 to repair your termite infested house in 6 months time.

    • No destructive termites here.

  • Free. Look at marketplace they come up for free often. As above, it's basically rubbish.

    • They don't here but thanks.

There's like what, $30 worth of wood there tops?

Pick a number somewhere between $0-30, it's not really enough to worry about and either way you save cash over buying new.

    I'd offer a 6pack of XXXX beer

When people say, "give me an offer" they are just trying to get the most out of you. I often reply, "Mate I can't sell them and buy them, what price would you be happy with"

    • What do you mean by "I can't sell them and buy them"?

      • +1

Coming up with a price is what a seller does. So If I'm trying to buy something, but the owner is asking me to come up with the price, then it's like I'm trying to sell it to myself

        • Ah, ok.

  • +1

How many do you need to replace?

  • I get mine for free & there are often some in very good condition. Stock pile them for free from various sources until u have enough.

    • Send them free my way bro. Many thanks.

      • when available they are located in Canberra -freight?

  • I wouldn’t pay for used palings as they are pretty much just rubish once they’re that old. OK for free, wouldn’t it for them.

    • Not all of them.
