Diablo II used to be a really good game, till Blizzard blew it with D3 and now D4…

    • +10

If you liked d2 you can play poe new season came out 2 weeks ago..

      • +4

Thanks. I also have Baldur Gate 3 on my wishlist, waiting for it to be on sale

        • +16

Baldurs Gate is well worth the money, even at full price.
Leagues above D4 for almost the same $$

        • +9

i paid $45au on gog using a vpn via moldova, i think it was posted on ozbargins.

    • +8

Diablo 2 (now d2r) is still a good game.

    • +4

I don’t understand. Did they change D2 when they released D3/D4 to make D2 not good anymore?

      • +30

No, he just worded it like an idiot.

    • +1

d3 with RoS is great though. becomes repetitive eventually but the end game is solid, unlike d4, and d2 really.

    • +4

They made D3 great. Seasons etc.
D4 is trash. I played beta->release->season 1. they did an interview with the diversity hire designers and its clear they dont even know how to play the game.

    • Diablo 3 was actually decent tho, much better than d4.

  • +17

    🤮

  • +1

I absolutely LOVE D,D2,D3 but i'm unsure of D4. Can someone compare the new to the others?
I was a WoW player for 15+years, but after Blizz had the shit-show sexual harrassment things going on, i kinda lost interest.
Plus paying $20p/m for a 20+yo game built on an old graphics engine was getting too much.
These days i'd expect a game to tax latest updated rigs to take advantage of new hardware.
Is the new D4 demanding on cpu/gpu's?

    • +9

People told me not to try D4, or you will never go back to… Diablo again…

    • +6

you'd be better off waiting for a larger discount.
You're not missing out on much.

    • +13

I hate to say it, but D4 is worse than Diablo Immortal. The campaign is fine, the soundtrack is epic, but that's pretty much all you're getting (I don't even think the graphics are anything to write home about). The community has pretty much totally moved on to BG3 or alternatives, because Blizzard have destroyed any reason to actually play past the campaign. As it is right now, D4 is boring, with a capital B.

The only thing D4 fans can really hope for is that Microsoft get their way and acquire ActiBlizz to right the ship.

      • +3

100% I asked blizzard for a refund after a week. Game is repetitive, unrewarding and sooooo boring. Visuals are nice but just no substance to the world at all… Not a D2 replacement at all unfortunately.

        • +1

          Thankyou to all who replied!
Looks like i'll stick to D2/3 for the nostalgic reason 😊

        • +5

or have we just grown up?

Im guessing when we played D2 we were in school and easily impressed
Now playing D4 everything looks silly. If you played D2 now you would find it repetitive and boring too? except the nostalgia has already registered in your head and it will stay there for good

          • +2

@ChatCPT: Nah. D4 is just bad for new and old Diablos players alike.

          • @ChatCPT: I still play D2 median and love it, but that's because it actually has endgame content not end game grind. I found d3 rift grinds boring and dumb.

          • +1

@ChatCPT: I bought D2R just before D4 came out because I knew I wasn't going to play D4 (too expensive and didn't enjoy open beta) but still wanted to get my Diablo fix. It's definitely repetitive, but not boring. I haven't finished Hell yet, level 83 Sorc, playing for 1-2 hours every few days with some gaps. I'm still playing other stuff, but still enjoying the grind for end game items. Eventually I'll beat Hell and the Uber bosses, but I'm in no rush. Plus, there's like 6 more classes to finish Hell with! And so many builds! I never feel pigeon-holed like I did in D3.

      • I thought the campaign was pretty boring as well

      • I don't even think the graphics are anything to write home about

They're far better than any other game in the genre, so yeah, they are to write home about

    • +5

D4 is fairly demanding on GPUs. There's still currently a memory leak in the game that causes stuttering if you play for extended periods of time. They also had Season 1 pre-planned as part of D4's rollout, so a lot of the community feedback won't be taken on-board until at least Season 2 in October, and even still, it won't be what most people's expectations are for D4.

I'd say D4 in it's current state is what D3 was during its early years: slow and clunky gameplay and mechanics that don't make a whole lot of sense (the current dungeon traversal system, for example).

D4 will be fantastic, in my opinion, 3-5+ years from now.

      • +1

There's still currently a memory leak in the game that causes stuttering if you play for extended periods of time

Hilariously, this has been there since the closed beta. Devs promised something 2 months ago and it's still not been fixed.

      • +3

D4 is absolutely not demanding at all, at 4k on max settings (with high res pack) it rarely goes above 5% gpu usage (granted on a 4080, but still, it's not demanding) - grim dawn uses more!

I don't get how he dungeon system is much worse than just clearing rifts? D3 you'd complete an entire season just staying in town and doing rift after rift. Now that was boring!

      • I've managed to play at ~30fps on an old GT730 GPU… the minimum spec is a GTX660 which is (according to userbenchmark) 307% faster.
Just gotta crank all the settings low and reduce the resolution.

On the other hand my GTX 1080 played it mostly fine at 1440p and default settings.

    • I absolutely LOVE D

      sure you do

      • Uhuh

        • +1

          ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

    • +1

I've sunk a fair few hours into D4 Season 1. I've still enjoyed it overall and there are many good aspects to the game, but also many big flaws/issues with the design that detract from the fun. I feel like I'll stop playing soon and see if it gets better over time.

If I were you I'd wait it out and check in again in 3, 6, 12 months to see what the player reception is before buying it. Hopefully they address some of the key player concerns.

  • +8

what it's like, 25% off for a new Blizzard release

Is a ~3 month old game still considered new? Most of the player base has left already

    • +6

I am in Clan, and level 100.

I can confirm that most of the players left (I haven't seen a 100 player for weeks).

I stopped playing as there is nothing to do to progress your account (unless creating a new character, which is not progressing).

  • +5

ill stick with D2R thanks - not paying for trash

  • +3

fair cop if this was the price from the get go

  • I got it for free with my graphics card and haven't even bothered to install it. Seemed like a microtransaction cash grab.

    • Sell it on ebay?

      • Needed verification while the card is installed into the machine and already tied it to my BattleNet.

  • +6

    It's 22% off.

I'm guessing baldurs gate 3 and starfield have stolen the show, every YouTube video about diablo 4 is a rant if that is anything to go by.
Typical game service game with season pass crap.
Most players finish the campaign and get bored. Blizzard have made the game more grindy with updates. That's what I've gathered.

  • +10

Still not worth it. Don’t waste your money like I did.

  • +14

everyone I know hates this game.

not even worth $50 this time.

    $10 after 6 months

    • +9

Most people here neg on the basis of how they feel about the item and not the deal itself. Seriously negs should be taken away.

      • +12

22% off a bullshit MSRP is a joke.. The advice here from everyone is fair warning - not worth the the gracious 22% off

        • -4

@javawoo would have neg even if the game was free. That's what I am trying to say. The poor little mermaid deal posted a few days ago got blasted on the basis that it's a crap movie.

ozbargain is becoming (even more) toxic than it ever was.

          • +2

@pitufon: That's how social experiments such as ozbargain work, it starts out fine but as time goes on more and more boundary get crossed and things that wernt acceptable become accepted

          • +2

            @pitufon: Grow a spine.

          • +3

@pitufon: People sure love using the word toxic these days.

            • @TheHocus: It really grinds my gears, so wanky.

              • @Bdawg: You seem to be triggered by it too. Another wanky term.

                • +3

@pitufon: It's not a matter of being triggered it's just so predictable and boring. Every maladjusted terminally online loser loves to proclaim everything with which they personally disagree as toxic. And it always gets written in the cadence of a sulky teenager. Find a better way to express yourself than co-opting the linguistic games of low IQ consensus seekers on Twitter. Cheers.

            • @TheHocus: hmmm ok

      • +1

But is this game really a deal at $85, at rrp it was hitting 9+ score on metacritic (based on limited play), now currently rated at a cool 2.0, quite justifiable that $85 is not really a deal.

        • I would say it’s worth about $40 in its current state. I wanted to enjoy it but. The grind past 50 is as boring as hell and they made grinding even harder. Add to that bag/ stash space nonsense and no loot filters and it becomes unenjoyable. Might b ok in 1 year but most will have left by then. How hard would it be to have a larger stash space which is shared with all character? It gets packed with 1.

      • Issue with product

        Issue with retailer

        -2!

    • You are just mad its Blizzard, you redditors here think everyone needs to crusade with you and only play Indie games

      • +5

if you played D4 you should've known how shit this game is

  • +14

Bought it on release, played the campaign and a couple hours of the first season then decided I was over it.

    I had upwards of 500+ hours on D3. D4 just isn't fun :(

Save your money and go play Baldurs Gate 3 instead.

    • +1

I am the same (though, more hours in D3), D2 was cool when it was out, when the remastered came out I was keen, but the nostalgia wore off in less than an hour.

I was hyped for D4, but after Immortal, I should have known better… the campaign was 'OK'… seasons is not worth the effort… hard pass. I definitely have buyers remorse on D4

    • +2

its not the (profanity) same thing, BG3 is totally different game

      • +1

Yes it is not the same thing. BG3 is a quality game worth it’s RRP.

        • -1

yes now everyone must love turn based games, there is no exception

    • +1

One of my mates had both, says d4 you can jump into for 20 minutes, BG3 you need hour long sessions to enjoy it properly.

D4 might be a disappointment but BG3 isn't the kind of game for everyone even if it is quality.

      • BG3 fans think everyone is obligated to love it

  • 2.0 on Metacritic: https://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/diablo-iv
It's been as low as 1.5 from the beginning of Season 1.

    • +5

2/10 is for user reviews, with obvious review bombing (lots of 0/10 ratings). Critic reviews are 8.5/10. While the game does sound like a disappointment and I have no intention of buying it, just bear in mind even good games can get review bombed, so user score is generally not the best indicator of quality.

      • Well probs reviewed bomb for a reason, maybe if it was an $80 game at launch rather than $120, it wouldnt have copped such backlash, plus games that get bombed to 2.0 must be in general relatively bad, who'd waste their time to post a low score unless they were genuinely disgruntled.

        • +4

nah people jump on band wagons & do it for fun even if they havent actually touched the thing they're complaining about

        • +2

review bomb for a reason lmao, they hate on literally everything online, it isnt that deep

During release everything was fine, people loved the world and campaign which lasts over 30+ hours, then they find that they dont like the endless grind and they want more repeatable content, that doesnt make the initially gameplay suddenly bad

      • +1

The fun part about critic reviews vs user reviews is that 99.99% of players fall into the 'users' category. A Critic will spend their required 1-10 hours reviewing a game and give it a score based on that. Users on the other hand have far more critiques and opinions. If you trust critic reviews over user reviews, that's fine, but keep in mind that even this bragain thread is mostly negative about the experience of the game.

    • +2

Using metacritic in an argument means you lose the argument

  • +5

Played about 100 hours very quickly…now haven't touched it for about a month which sort've says it all.

    • +4

Oh yeah, I definitely threw in 60 hours into this game finding all the secrets and unlocking Renown and the Lilith statues and side quests etc, but having to do that each time on each character just makes me cringe. I know that those things are now account-wide unlocks now, but I've already moved past D4 and will reinstall in a few years, perhaps for the next expansion (if they decide to do expansions)

    • +1

Same experienced. First two weeks sunk a ton of hours in. Haven't touched it since.

  • +1

Patiently waiting for price drop on Xbox.

For me Diablo games have become exclusively about couch co-op.

They are very cinematic, good story/gameplay and best enjoyed with someone else.

Solo play is too sweaty by end-game.

    • Always online is a pain too

    • +1

      Same price on Xbox store

      • +1

Ye boi, I made that post here

  • +2

I had a blast for 30 hours before it became boring and repetitive. It's just the gear & level grind post the campaign that was a let down.

The lack of effective communication kills the social dynamic of the game too. I was happy grinding in WoW, for example, because you're constantly chatting with friends.

Having said all that, $85 for 30 hours of fun is great value. The combat mechanics and experimenting with builds is good.

    • +3

Sorry $85 for 30 hours is not great value. I played the whole campaign and was hugely disappointed. The story started off good and went downhill from there. The whole time I was playing I felt no progression in my character. In fact, as I lvled I managed to feel weaker thanks to their scaling system and lack of good loot until you are past lv 60. By the time I got to 60, I was finished with the campaign and the game. Sorry this game is not good at all. I have been a fan of diablo since 2 and have 100s of hours in 3.. dont waste your money on 4.

      • +2

        Each to their own.

I don't feel that I wasted my money buying it. Despite my dissapointment with endgame

      • +2

$2.83 per hour of entertainment sounds pretty good to me

      • not everyone wants to no life on 1 single game like you

        • -2

          @freestyle ok cool story bro

  • The campaign is fine but after that it is a wasteland of nothing meaningful to do. I expect similar to D3 they will eventually change this and make it more interesting.

  • +1

Man fk this game, had to pay over $100 dollars, campaign was dead average and i had zero motivation to replay. Go spend your money on baldurs gate instead, even better with ukraine vpn hack

  • +5

Is discount additive or multiplicative? You never know with Blizzard. Even they don't understand their own maths.

    • Underrated comment lmao!

  • +1

Wait til its 80% off. This game is a piece of trash.

  • +4

    Starfield effect looll.

This is the biggest mistake I have done. Enjoyed the pre-season game so I purchased a separate copy for my PC. Was excited for the season until I realised it's a complete big FLOP.

Literally wasted Ultimate copy for the ps5 and standard copy for my PC.

    Please DO NOT BUY

  • I got this instead of FFXVI thinking it has higher chance of getting ongoing playtime, but I was so wrong. I enjoyed getting up to level 75 in season 0, and then like everyone else lost the desire to start over again in season 1 due to the lack of endgame direction. No unique endgame dungeons, no realistic endgame unique gear to chase. It all very quickly becomes pointless. I mean, if the game is mostly about grinding loot, why won’t they actually put some rare but obtainable endgame uniques that are much better than the generic randomised ones?

  • +7

This game is actual garbage. 90% of the players have quit due to actiblizz’s incompetence. No QoL features. Lack of content. No true endgame. Game has nothing going for it. And yes I got the ultimate edition on launch and it was not worth it whatsoever.

  • +3

It's not worth it in its current state; I have 2 level 100s and still play it. There is no real benefit to playing it now vs in a few months when it's a bit more polished. Wait until further price drops unless you desperately want to play it. They only discounting it because of starfield.

    • -2

Haha what on earth possessed you to get one lv100, let alone two!?

I would say if you're sunk that many (hundreds?) of hours into it you've probably got your money's worth already in terms of hours/$ paid.

I only played about 30h with a friend before getting bored.

      • It is great for first 2 character to gain lv 100, quite a lot of things to build around skills and weapons. They should make a game "an idiot among us" for you.
True it is boring after third time.

        • Ooo someone is salty.

I just don't find grinding the same 10 or so dungeons for 200h+ fun. Granted the character building is quite decent.

Now D2 median with their actual end game progression of bosses/challenges, that's fun!

    • Are you playing hardcore?
