Question Answer
1. Is Boost operated by Telstra network? Yes, on the full Telstra network
2. Does Boost support 5G? Yes, for all Boost prepaid customers and it is currently on trial until 3 April 2023
From 4 April 2023, 5G network access will be included as standard on your service and we’ll be introducing capped download speed caps on our 4G and 5G networks
3. Does Boost support e-SIM? Sadly not at this stage. However there are plans to do so
4. Do you have to activate the SIM within 30 days? Every Cashrewards Boost cashback up to and including June 30 has been approved (confirmed by TA) - provided you activated within 30 days of order
5. How long is the SIM expiry? Usually 1 year, but to qualify for cashback the SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering
6. It is showing “new customer” on Boost website. What does this mean? New customer term is only for the additional Boost data, and nothing to do with the cashback offer
7. Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? Yes, you can receive SMS while overseas, but can’t send outgoing to Australia
8. How long does it take to receive the SIM? According to the Boost Rep: Once dispatched, you should receive your order within the following business days: Metro Areas – 2-5 business days for capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart & Brisbane (order before 4pm). Non Metro or Regional / remote areas – 3-7 business days
9. Is porting in a Telstra number to Boost considered a "new customer"? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Porting a number from Telstra to Boost is definitely considered a new customer
10. Are you able to purchase multiple plans using different names / ID (or can I purchase 4 x plans for the family using my own details)? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Received clarification from the team and this is a tricky one since for compliance the terms is showing the customer is only allowed 1 sim per transaction but he can buy multiple SIMs and then activate them all under his name and he will then be able to manage all the numbers when he logs into the App with his Boost ID.
11. Information on what to do when the "please try again later" message comes up List of indicators that can affect how your order is flagged in different financial systems, which can hopefully help you understand what is going wrong
12. Can this be used to recharge? No, this is a starter pack. Using as a "recharge" is being dis-allowed and activating first and moving the number may be allowed but is frowned upon and may not be allowed in future depending on how you ask for it.

Enjoy!

Bought it yesterday for only $26 cashback via https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/795913 :|

      Same here! Oh well.

  • After filling in all the details just to buy this thing:

    SORRY, SOMETHING WENT WRONG

We’re sorry but we’re experiencing technical issues. Please try again later.

    • +1

Got the same during my 4 or 5 tries yesterday.

Changing the network (home WiFi → hotspotting to phone) and then ordering worked.

      • +2

        hotspotting on Boost?

        • am currently using a Telstra SIM.

    • same for me.. tried 3 times.. no luck

  • need recharge deal in 3 months time!

    • port out and come back my guy

      • that will be the last option, still got 3 months to go.

      • What does this mean?

I have a 365 day catch plan expiring at the end of October and not sure if I should buy this deal now and let the SIM sit for a bit

  • Does anyone know if you're still able to "port" from Boost to Boost? I did this last year around this time, but it was rumoured that they were trying to stop this earlier this year

    • +1

Porting means moving to a different network service provider, so technically you can't port Boost to Boost.

      • Yeah, the last time I did I spoke to customer support and they were able to "port" my number / account out of Boost and onto the new Boost SIM I bought. Just wondering if they're still able to do that

        • +1

          Nah that's not porting.

          • @WatchNerd: Hehe true. I saw a comment below which is asking something similar, I'll contact their customer service and ask if I can activate a new SIM on my account.

They let me do it a couple of months ago, but they said that would be the last time they'd let me.

So I've been jumping back and forth from Lebara/amaysim with their $4 Sims.

    • The live chat rep let me use the new SIM as a recharge for my old SIM instead of porting my number to the new SIM - so you might get lucky and not have to port out and back in if you're currently with Boost!

  • How would this compare to Woolworths and there plan 170$ for 125GB validity 365 days. I guess you would add International Pack for 5$ to compare with this.

Which also gives 10% savings on your shop on Woolworth as well.

    • Vodafone and Optus networks are not as good as Telstra (from my experience).

      • Woolsworth is telstra network

        • Is it the 'fake' Telstra network or the real one that Boost uses?

          • +1

@Hunter14: 'fake' Telstra Network in your terms (it is called "Telstra Wholesale network", with little less coverage especially on regional areas when compared to below

Whereas Boost is on "Telstra Retail Network" which is exactly same as regular Telstra Sims

            • @maddykartik: Cheers. I'm currently with Boost and have been happy with their coverage. Was willing to switch to Woolies if they used the same network.

does it expire 5th and how many days to activate SIm for cashback to be valid?

  • Does this apply to new customers only?

  • +1

Thanks - grabbed this SIM - i was due for a 'review' of what I was paying ($29) and data (25gb) with another provider (Aussie Broadband) (too much $$ and wasn't using the data)

Ends up being $13.33.xx per month !! (Cashrewards email received)

  • +1

(profanity). Literally ordered this last night with no cashback

    • +2

Please hand in your OzB membership.

      • +3

        i am much shame

  • If only they did eSIM or I could get it in person from Officeworks and still get the cashback. I'm moving house next week and not sure the SIM would arrive in time, also my current month-to-month expires tomorrow, ugh!

    • you could set your postal address to a parcel locker - not sure if the delivery is classified as a package/parcel or letter though.

  • I need to port out of mate mobile today? Can i use an existing Boost sim but still buy this deal for cashrewards?

    • don't think so. They post a SIM that has an RRP of $230 having 170GB data for 12 months and other listed inclusions like international calls. It is not some credit that you can apply with your existing Boost SIM.

      • So you reckon each Boost sim is coded with the particular deal? I thought i could activate this deal with my unused 30 day sim.

  • +1

Just ordered one. Done with sim hopping.

  • +2

Boost website says should be activated before 25th Sep…whilst cashrewards is 30 days from purchase…wonder what happens if activation is done after 25th sep…

    • confirmed with Boost that SIM can be activated after 25th Sep, but you get only 160 GB data instead of 170 GB data….

Still need to activate within 30 days of purchase to be eligible for cashback

  • Purchased two for the office, both tracked!

  • +1

Lack of eSim is an increasingly big negative with Boost. The new iPhone 15 is rumoured to be eSim-only.

  • Is boost signal still decent in sydney?

    • How's Telstra's signal?

  • If you port an existing number - i'm guessing it doesn't 'happen' until you activate the sim yeah?

    • +1

Correct, porting takes place when you activate.

      • thanks

  • old plan about to expire, good time to port out and come in. Thanks :)

  • Doesn't necessarily need to be for a new customer?

  • +1

Ordered, thks OP. Wanted to Port out from Optus since they jacked up the price of my plan. Was about to order this plan , but good thing i held out for a few days and the cashback deal was announced. Hopefully porting process wont be problematic

Keep getting error SORRY, SOMETHING WENT WRONG

    • Tried again but had to use my wife's details instead, wonder why mine doesn't work.

  • anyone getting " Something went wrong. We’re unable to process the request at this time." on activation ? ? Is it because I order too many sims 5 on that $4 profit deal ?? and boost now dont want to pay me so they make it harder for me like this ??

  • Thanks OP - two orders, both tracked with CR, very happy!

  • question : is BOOST actually Telstra ?? Just got a SMS stating that I parcel delivery from them, for something that left yesterday (which is when I ordered this). If so - then that's a MEGA QUICK delivery !!

    • I got mine within 24hrs of ordering.. nuts!!

      • Got to my central west home …it’s here after two days..

        Very quick.

  • Got CR tracking instantly. Thanks OP

Been meaning to leave Woolworths mobile since they stopped their 10% off working for online orders

  • Anyone know when this deal expires? Just waiting to see if iPhone 15 Pro is eSim only

    Nevermind.. it's Sep 5

  • really unreliable checkout, has failed 4 times, worked once. what is going on?! I have 3 SIMS to get!

    • all good, pretty crazy deal to get this plan for $160!

    • What was the trick to get it to work on the final attempt?

  • Just purchased via the CR all, the click is registered but not the purchase as yet. Is it usually instant?

    • Mine also did not get tracked. Have submitted a claim

  • Bought. Tracked within 5 mins.

  • Worked today for me but 16 attempts by my son over 5 hours and all he gets is an error saying that Boost have experienced a 'technical issue'.
Chat is useless. Tried multiple times and each gives a different response. One said that the issue was the cashrewards link as there was 'already a discount so you cant have a cashrewards cashback'.

  • Damn when did this end :(
