    • is there a g83?

      • not that i can find on motorolas australian or indian website, but the g84 is listed on their indian website to release soon with some pretty good midship specs for people who just want something that does its job with no fuss.

        5000mAh battery
        12GB ram
        256GB storage
        snapdragon 695 (midship processor still)
        3.5mm headphone jack
        side fingerprint reader.
        Decent screen and camera too.

Here's hoping it makes it to australia at a reasonable price.

    • Looks like a lot of mixed reviews in here.

    • +4

As an owner of the phone, I've been using AliExpress phone cases and they're perfectly fine.

    • This is Zen Phone 10

      • Correct. Wait for 10

  • +1

Used to own one, an excellent phone if you want stock Android on a small device.

If you're coming from a Pixel device, you'll love the added features and the efficient chip, if you're coming from Samsung, you'll hate the lack of customisation and Samsung-specific apps. It's why I went back to Samsung.

To enable vowifi dial ##3642623344## through the stock dialler app and you'll magically find the setting available in settings. Have to do this upon every reboot but meh not really a deal breaker.

    • Can you confirm if the VoWifi actually works on the zenfone 9?, the whirlpool and asus forum posts I found showed that the process to make the setting come up works (albeit is a chore) and that you can enabled it but the VoWifi stopped actually working awhile back despite being enabled.

Perhaps you're on a carrier where it still works though?, Telstra was listed as one of the problematic carriers where it no longer worked.

Happy to be wrong though as I'm on telstra and no VoWifi is one of the main things stopping me from getting this phone (shit reception at my house)

      • Vowifi is overrated. Doesn't work most of the time even on my samsung phone (inbound calls fail to ring, only knew after multiple people asked me why i never pick up, turned vowifi off and problem solved).

        • VoWifi is the only way i can make a stable phone call without having to stand in one precise spot in my house. It might be over rated for you but its pretty crucial for me.

          • @kickasspeanut: Is it worse to stand in one spot or is it worse not to be able to receive calls? I think the answer is obvious. Standing in one spot for the duration of a call is something you can deal with. Not receiving calls isn't.

  • Tempting. I want everything in this deal, but no IR BLASTER is a deal breaker for me.

I have become extremely reliant on having an instant universal remote on me for work and travel.

    • +2

those have become very rare, last heard of them before Redmi Note popularity died. According to this, https://www.gsmarena.com/results.php3?nYearMin=2022&chkInfra… , which is all phones from 2022 to present with Infrared, your options for finding something that is not a deal breaker is very limited. It's either Oppo or imported Xiaomi phones.

      • +1

Yeah, seems limited to imported phones but still a
current trend outside of Australia. A quick search game me a list ( probably a lot of sponsorship involved )
Xiaomi, Oppo, Poco are commonly featured with an IR BLASTER

    • +3

Tip - you can buy a USB-C IR blaster dongle. They're cheap and come with an companion Android app - works pretty okay :)

      • Good tip, I didn't know about these but like a camera or a torch, I wouldn't carry one in my pocket.
I've got a very few USB phone accessories sitting in a quickly accessible case which never get used.
Fantastic devices but I just never use them because they aren't always plugged in…

I'd be just as inclined to have a universal remote like the Mirabella plugged into a power bank.

  • Still waiting for the Pixel 7 from Telstra deal. Shall I get this instead?

  • Why!!! My Pixel 7a is only a few months old, the urge for a new ASUS is hard to resist ……

  • How long are updates supported?

  • ZenFone 10 must be getting released very soon here in Aus.

  • Sadly they're not selling the 16gb model, otherwise it seems like a great phone.

  • coming from a Poco F1 that I have been using since 2018, battery barely lasts 2 hours now… Can't wait to finally experience a phone that can last a whole day again

    • Only 2 hours, was it always like that?

  • I do like this phone and the smaller/lighter FF but looking at my S20 FE which I have been enjoying using since Dec 2020, I am disappointed by the features Zenfone 9 lacks that I would lose:
    - no wireless charging
    - no video out
    - no USB 3.2, only USB 2.0
    - no sdcard expansion/backup facility
    - no telephoto camera
    - very few case options (e.g. no aramid fibre case available)

    • Excuse my ignorance, what's FF?

      • Form factor.

Looks like sold out? Page unable to load.

    • Yeah same here :(. Knew I hesitated for too long!

      • You can always buy first and think later, the OzB way. Besides, JBs has 30 days change of mind policy, as long as it is unopened.

        • Well that doesn't do me any good now!!
Just kidding, thanks I will remember that for next time :)

    • Yep. When I got mine yesterday it didn't matter which model page you went to it had the different colour and capacity toggles on the one page. Now if you go to one the only options are the 3 different colours of the 128GB version so they must have cleared out the entire 256GB stock yesterday.

  • Party is over!

  • 128GB model still available for those that are interested

  • +1

I'm very happy i didn't pull the pin on this a month ago! Thanks, bought it!

    • enjoy

They haven't dispatch my phone and I selected express, but looks like they just refunded my shipping fees since it was supposed to be delivered today. So getting free shipping now…

    • Was that an automatic refund? I also havent had mine dispatched

      • I selected express and was meant to be delivered by Friday 1.09 but obviously that didn't happen and they must have just refund me for not able to meet what they can deliver. So not sure if it is automated or manual refund, but I just got the free express shipping…which is fair enough.

        • Hey mate, did you receive your phone yet? Mine was due for Monday but still nothing

  • Any good flip case and screen protector for this

  • Anyone receive theirs with a scratch on the screen? Box was clearly sealed, and the phone had no fingerprints but there's a distracting 10x3mm mark/scratch near the centre of the screen. Almost looks like it's under the screen. Thought it might be a film protector, but this phone doesn't have one. It's much worse than any scratch my 5-year-old non-screen protector phone ever accumulated. Annoyed because the 256GB is sold out so it's either get a refund, exchange for the 128GB, or just accept it.

    • That would be manufacturing defect, I would get it returned unless you can live with that.

      • Yeah, it seems like that. Just my luck. I think I'll keep it because I know all they'll be able to do is refund me or swap it for a 128GB model. Don't think losing half the storage is worth it.

  • Is there a metal ring around the selfie camera?

  • Has anyone not received their 256GB model? Bit nervous they will reneg on this. Mine was due to arrive on Monday

  • just missing a wireless charging

  • +3

Typing from my new Zenfone 9 that I've been using for a couple of days now! I know it's an year old phone but I'm more than happy with the specs I get for the price. Coming from an iPhone XR that I used for more than 4 years, everything is an upgrade except for the wireless charging which I don't think I'll miss too much anyway. It'll take me time to get used to typing on the android keyboard but I'm sure I'll get used to it.
Loving the size and the weight of this device. Really fast to switch between apps. Camera is a huge upgrade. Will enjoy using this device for the next few years before I find another good deal on ozbargain 😉
    Thanks for sharing the deal!

    • +1

      Thanks for the review. Enjoy

  • I am just wondering if there is any official information about whether Asus will be selling the Zenfone 10 in Australia or not.

    • There is only an unofficial one. Someone knows a person working for JB. They were told it would be coming in October.
