Qantas travel credit is for Qantas flights only via the American Express travel website. This does not work for hotels, car hire etc.

    • Does the Amex travel website use the same price as Qantas sales or discount fares? Is there a Amex website markup?

      • +1

I think it depends, on Qantas the sale/saver is cheaper but flex is more expensive

        • Thanks, the travel credit might not be too useful then as I normally get flights when they go on sales.

          • +1

@xdigger: It is definitely more limiting now ever since they changed it to qantas flights only rather than travel credit, alternative amex cards probably have better value

      • Sale fares seem to appear a few days after they're available via Qantas.
Have to call Amex with a specific cheaper sale flight/date and they can book the sale fare manually if you get a helpful CSR.

Referrals have the same offer, so may as well use one to help out an Ozbargainer

    • Can Mrs use my referral link and in theory get 150k points between us?

      • Yup. It will be 150k + 20k for the referral

        • Ahh thought the referral was 75k - assumed thats what you said
Will hold out for a 125k offer for Mrs then

          • @AircraftFreight: Yeh what I meant was the applicant would receive 75k points regardless if using a referral or not, so there's no reason to not use one.

        • How do you get 150k points? Do you mean it’s 75k from this offer + 75k from the referral (and the referrer gets 20k)?

          • +1

@JoKing: I assumed both people were new sign ups. 1st person gets 75k, 2nd person gets 75k and 1st person gets 20k for referral.

    • Wait, do referrals get 75k?

      • The referrer gets 20k, referree/applicant gets 75k (matching this offer)

Aren’t this card usually offer 120/130k pts?

    • +1

      Yeah like 3 years ago.

I don't mind travel credit for Amex travel but not for Qantas exclusive.

  • +2

    wish it wasn't Qantas

    • +2

Ehh its not that bad, even though its with QF - its effective annual fee is still $0
You can sell this credit on Classifieds for $300 though

    Not the best offer
125k was the previous previous offer, before that it was 100k

The Qantas Travel Credit is very limited.

I've hold this card for 2 years. During the after-Covid time, I used this credit to buy Qantas flight ticket to Singapore after the lockdown was lifted. Tested positive at Melbourne airport. Asking for refund. AMEX was unhelpful and told me no, Qantas originally said that I should be entitled for a refund due to their Covid policy. AMEX then gave me Qantas Travel Credit which can only be used by me. Problem was my subsequence travel plan involved multiple Cities, and flight tickets through their system using Qantas was stupidly expensive.

I called them countless times, AMEX tole me frankly they wouldn't help me further. Qantas assured me multiple times that I should see my refund soon. Then after couple months without seeing any of my money back, Qantas told me that no, I should only be eligible for credits… etc

I ended up loosing all the credits cause I didn't have any travel plan for a while (loosing $450 Travel Credit + $500+ out of pocket money)
I get nothing back from them.

Even cheap airline like Scoot refunded me in full. Qantas refund was ridiculous, no wonder they posted "outstanding" profits for the last few years!!!

  • Rejected yet again. Anyone else churning through cards? I've closed 4 cards since January and I think that's the reason seeing as my credit score/income/assets are all the same if not better since the first time I was approved in 2020. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Pretty much the same, applied for years without issue after waiting out the exclusions periods and finally this year got my first rejection from AMEX. Just gonna hold out another year before I bother trying with AMEX again unless they've actually got some permanent blacklist or something. Also getting to the stage in my life where juggling multiple cards simultaneously is becoming a bigger issue than timing the minimum spends due to all the increasing expenses lol. So maybe my frequency of cards churned might be becoming an issue.

Got my first rejection from AMEX as well, been 18 months since I've held a card and requested the minimum $6000 limit. Other banks recently approved me for $15k without any fuss. Got a good pay rise recently so didn't bother putting down extra income like dividends.. perhaps I should have in hindsight. Anyone had success with overturning the decision if you show more proof of the card being serviceable?

        • extra income like dividends.. perhaps I should have in hindsight

Nah don't think that matters a huge deal for a vendor like AMEX. I was getting approved for the ultimate on much lower income years ago when I first started churning and they didn't even bother asking for payslips or income verification by my 2nd go around so they definitely seem to do things differently.

Anyone had success with overturning the decision if you show more proof of the card being serviceable?

Issue is that's not the only criteria they (or the other banks) are assessing you on, you've also gotta think of your own application and usage patterns on your credit report file and also whether they deem you profitable etc.
From prior comments left by other people here and on AFF seems like only ANZ and maybe CBA has a chance or reviewing applications, all others incl AMEX just give the usual scripted spiel about trying agian in a few months or when your circumstances change etc.

          • @vawiyoci: Yeah I got it reviewed and got declined again (In January) lol. Were very rigid in their responses. Seeing as this is my third time getting rejected, should I even bother applying anymore?

  • Can you get this if you hold an amex discovery card? And maybe have previously gotten this card with a deal 3-4 years ago

    • You can't hold any Amex Australia personal card right now and be eligible. Have to have been clear for 18 months. Having the deal 3-4 years ago is fine.

  • Does anyone know the minimum income and limit for this? Thanks

    • Not mentioned, I believe it is 65k. I earned 70k last fy and got approved on this card.
