Wouldn’t pay any more than $220 for this. This has been absolutely terrible with my HDMI CEC, fighting for control with my other devices, even with a hotfix sent from their support team.

    • +5

HDMI CEC is a cluster fook due to its loose parameters. I used to always disable it as it was nothing but trouble.

For why it’s worth, I have it on with my Shield and it works 100% as intended with my Integra AVR and LG tv.

      • Feel like it's the opposite problem. CEC has limit of 3 playback devices out of 15 total, as basically everything you can plug in these days counts as a playback device, shit breaks when you start plugging in more.

Haven't had issues after limiting which devices have CEC enabled.

      Works fine for me.

    • This isn’t a problem for me, what I find most irritating is when you change batteries and the remote loses power/connection to the device. (profanity) pathetic shit.

    • I think it’s ur tv, I went Sony to Hisense (don’t ask) and had nothing but struggles with it. Needless to say… my fault for being a tightarse …

How is this a deal ? I just checked my invoice from 2021 for the pro version. I paid 249 $

    Not worth more than $200

Where can i get a new one for $200 ?

      • If anyone can find a new one for $200 I am interested.

Unless you need this for a specific feature only this has then go for the Apple TV 4k.

      Kodi comes to mind

Can I use Stremio+RD on Apple TV?

      • +6

No way, would be cool though

    • I have an Apple TV at home, and a raft of other Apple products. the ATV however generally lives in it's box. I pull it out every now and then to see what an update may have changed, then after 2 days of frustrated use, it goes back in the box.

I will give it props for frame rate matching on streaming apps, otherwise I find it mostly annoying. It is particularly bad at streaming locally stored media due tot he lack of apps. There is basically one decent app that will play back Dolby Vision content, Infuse, but I found that to be a sub par experience.

Edit, apparently the Emby team have gotten around to doing something about making HDR and DV work on their ATV app, I might give it another try.

I’ve got both, prefer the Shield by far.

    • Terrible advice.

You're locked into Apples pretty hell. Shield is still the best available sadly.

      • No other Apple product is needed to use an Apple TV

        • You cant run Kodi or Streamio or anything else that isnt sanctioned by Apple really.

I love mine but it is wild to me that that there hasn't been a new version since like 2019. Still does the job I guess.

  • Are they still to announce a new NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro? Or they won't do a new one?

    • They most probably won't do a new one

      • Considering it's compatible with everything you throw at it, the only upgrade would be a quicker chip for performance and maybe a new remote.

        • +1

It doesnt play the enhancement layer in Dolby Vision profile 7 files properly. Would love to see this fixed in a new hardware update but doubt it will happen.

        • +1

New wifi chip would be nice too

        • +2

          Would love hardware AV1 decoding!

Wouldn’t pay more than $229 for this considering past deals and its age. Get an Apple TV instead.

    • +3

      Get an Apple TV instead.

      🤣🤣🤣

    • +3

You can't do anything with an Apple TV. It's the worst

    • +1

I will when Apple allows sideloading

      • Buy a Developer account from Turkey?

  • +2

Apple TV is a little quicker and has a better UI, but it doesn’t support lossless audio, and doesn’t support all of the Dolby vision profiles. If you care about Dolby Vision or lossless audio, get the shield. I strongly recommend Flauncher as an alternative to the stock one though.

  • +2

    We have 2 shields.
I love them, easy to use.

However, IMHO, if you are in the Apple ecosystem, go for an Apple TV.

  • I have used the Pro and standard model. For my use purposes, there’s absolutely zero need for the Pro. I also dislike the flat placement of this thing where’s the standard model can be put anywhere. QC is also shocking, I had sharp bits of plastic sticking off mine, dunno if this is normal.

Come on nvidia! Release a new version of this…

    • +2

nah just make this half price :)

My one freezes and crashes when trying to stream 4K content from Netflix, Disney+, Binge and Prime Video…. so I've stopped using it and it has become a dust collector.

Latest firmware installed and could not find a work around to fix it.

    • Weird, I've never had this problem - YouTube, Disney and Prime all stream 4k without issue. Haven't tried Netflix 4k.

It could be some sort of network issue? Might be a stupid question, but… Is your internet fast enough?

      • Yep, Internet is fast enough.

It used to work fine up until about 6 months ago, and no amount of troubleshooting, reseting, rebooting has fixed it.

So I gave up and use the PS5 to stream 4K instead.

        • +1

Dust and overheating could be the issue. Might be time to crack it open.

      • Sorry, I wont get rid of it.. because on rare occasions I use it to play roms (old games) which it does quite well with.

        • fair enough.

  • I have the version before this one (the one with gamepad) and i always wonder, is this newer one much better?

    • I believe the major differences are the additions of AI upscaling and Dolby vision support which are nice upgrades.

  • have two of these. will need a third soon since we got a third lg oled.

better to wait for 229 deals though
