Netgear Orbi Pro system discounted from $1549 down to $499. I assume it is because it is the old model on run out. Specs are here: https://www.netgear.com/au/business/wifi/mesh/sxk80/

Probably overkill for a home network but this business version is cheaper than many of the home versions.

I believe “system” refers to the unit as a whole.

Everywhere else displays this item as a router and a node.

It would be pretty misleading showing 2 devices if you only get 1.

        I think you’re right.

In the tech specs image, it refers to 1 router + 1 satellite

    • +1

NetGear Orbi Pro SXK80-100AUS is a 2-pack bundle.

  • -2

im gonna assume it's got some generic bcm soc?

    • +1

The router appears to be Qualcomm IPQ8074A, so no.

The satellite is likely to also have a Qualcomm SoC within.

  • +2

Very good price for this model. They are usually $750-$900

  • +1

Good price for the router and satellite bundle. If you are after a satellite unit only (SXS80), Netgear's online store has it for $199. Use code AU10 for a 10% further discount.

    • thanks for this!

I have been looking for an add on, and the cheapest price was around the 450 mark!

  • Ooft that’s a lot of money for wifi. Must be very fast

      • Ouch. Wth just looks like incremental increase in speeds. They all say wifi 6

Must for those where money is no object

        • +2

It's for a purpose. Just because two things are both Wifi 6 doesn't mean they perform the same.

You might put a cheap one in a room with an expensive one and find the speed the same. But five rooms over may be a very different story. It all depends on use case.

        • +1

Its not about the speed its about 6GHZ band that is free of congestion.

          • @Jasonio: Until everyone migrates to 6GHZ when they upgrade their routers over the next few years.

            • @hothed: Even then its insanely wide channels there are plenty to go around.

              • @Jasonio: This router doesn’t have 6GHZ, you need get wifi 6e router which is over $2000 for a good one

If its anything like home orbi half the functionality is locked behind a subscription paywall

    • +2

Orbi Pro comes with 5 yrs sub apparently.

      • Not the bitdefender armor sub, but some random remote management sub though

You need to buy a subscription to use the app to manage the devices…

    • +1

The bundle comes with a 5 year subscription to Netgear Insight Remote Management.

This is a business bundle and is not managed by the standard orbi app.

  • So this good or should I be going a newer model for a bit more?

  • Great price but old tech at this point consider 6 > 6e already out > 7 just starting to arrive (TPlink Deco BE85 already out)

  • +1

Showing as $729.00 for me on Amazon

  • +1

So one of the issues with this as compared to say the Asus XT8 is that its second 5ghz band is never available to use as you wish, it is only backhaul, even if you have wired backhaul between the units.

So if you do have ethernet through your house (or at least connecting the two) then it's really effectively just an AX3600 unit to you. An important consideration if you had intended to use a dedicated 5ghz connection for some latency-sensitive high-bandwidth application like Oculus Airlink.

  • I hope they are better than previous Orbi's. I've had no end of trouble with my satellites dropping sync with the master which means any devices connected to that satellite lose internet

  • +1

Would this offer much over the tp-link xe75 twin pack going for $345 on good guys commercial?

    • No. WiFi 6E > 6

      • It's not quite as simple as that. If you're not connecting your units with ethernet then this has the benefit of a dedicated 5ghz backhaul channel. Its 5 ghz capacity for each band is also broader than the TP link's (although you may never use that much of it).

Also, if you don't have wifi 6e compatible devices to use then the TP link offers no real benefits (yet).

        • +1

Thanks Gorby, I discovered this after posting my question. I just assumed it had a dedicated backhaul until reading a review on Toms Guide, looks like it uses some smarts to shift the backhaul around and "prioritises the 6GHz where possible".

But then looking at the tp-link website it mentions a dedicated 6GHz backhaul, which seems to be region specific, depending on region spectrum licensing.

How much better are these units than say a Telstra Smart Modem 2/3
I'm not talking about bandwidth but specifically range? I have a rural property and want to have wifi as far outside as possible

    • Orbi make specific outdoor satellite's that can be attached to the outside of your property.

I have a much older, lower model (no outdoor units). It can cover most of my 768sqm property (brick house). Doesn't really cover the driveway becsuse of the Garage and interference. Although my Arlo camera in front of the garage has no problem.

  • I have been looking at getting a new mesh, and have been eyeing off the TP-link x73 DSL. Would this be better? And can I connect my fttn phone cable to it?

  • how do i connect my home phone line to this?
My existing wifi router has a home phone line out
