New to PC Gaming

Hi all,

I just got a new gaming PC.. and new to PC gaming..
I'd like to know what's the best way to access PC games these days.

Is it Xbox PC Game Pass, Steam, or something else?

I noticed few months back there was (expired?) deal on Xbox Game Pass (Turkiye hack).
Is that for Xbox or for PC game as well, and whether still cheaper than AU pricing?

Seeking your guidance, thanks!

Collect all the free games for your pile of shame and/or set notifications for deals from the following:

This browser addon Augmented Steam will also add price history to games you view on the Steam store, and will tell you if there's coupon you can redeem to buy the game for less (at a different store)

Steam is the main store for PC games and has most games available. There are several others, listed by Master Bates.
You can't use any VPN hacks for Steam, but you can get CD keys for games via grey sites cheaper than regional pricing.

This Xbox Game Pass hack still works. I renewed for 2 years for $150 last week. Would be around $120 for you as you're a new customer.

    • Steam is a platform to purchase games, while Xbox Game Pass is like a service subscription, where I can download & play (and stream?) games but actually do not own the game itself.
      Is that correct?

Did you try this hack last time around? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/784047
I wonder if it still works

With Game Pass you can both download games and stream them. You can also stream Xbox only games.
There is the option to purchase the games so they are playable even when you don't have a subscription.

Steam you purchase and "own" the games. I use quotations because you never truly own digital games. Steam could one day go bust and everything is gone. Or you could do something dumb with your account and get it deleted.

I used the deal I linked previously. Here is my comment

That deal you linked may work - just requires a lot of screwing around it seems.

Don't forget gg.deals, a great site as well for getting the lowest prices across a wide range of stores. Been my go-to site for a while now.

personally I try before I buy because devs and publishers have been total scammers for the last decade
for instance Daymare 1994 is CRAP
somethings sail the seven seas something

tbf Steam (not sure about others ie. Epic) does offer a no-questions-asked return and refund period after you purchase a game and give it a go, though you do have to have (I think) under 5hrs of gameplay. A handy and legit way of seeing if the gameplay appeals to you or if your computer can even handle it

Though games that aren't on these distribution platforms, that's a different story :)

The Steam refund policy is under 2 hours of recorded playtime and within 2 weeks of purchase. I do believe that there is a blacklist or way to get banned from refunds if you exploit the system, but I don't have any personal experience of that.

  • Epic Launcher is pretty nice, they give out some nice free games occassionally like Bloons TD6 and Overcooked 1 & 2. Also got GTA5, Saints Row and Control on it.
Lately their sales have been pretty good too.

Steam has a big library and the prices are pretty decent when they are on sale so it's good to have it as your main library for the long term.
