Is it possible to get the 10% loyalty code even if I don’t have a Samsung account?

  • Hmmm that's weird, it's telling me that my Galaxy S21 5G is illegible for tradeup! That's v strange!

Also the entire app has crashed and won't even let me restart it. I see why it has such a poor rating on Play store

    • Is it a direct import

      • I have to assume it is not Aussie version. i bought it during one of those ebay 25% cashback on refurb items sales. Oh well, not having any problems with it, so i suppose it will continue to be my phone haha

        • You can only trade au models via trade in app

          • @easternculture: Yes i am figuring that, and i'm also figuring that my refurb model must not have been AU version. I don't recall whether it was supposed to be an AU model or not, i guess i didn't check at the time. Must be global version or something

  • +6

S23 ultra comes to be around $1150 for 256 GB, with this, for those who might be inclined that way.

    • Tempting… I'm still using my S9+, but the battery is not great. I feel I need to upgrade my cameras as well, it's been several generations… I hope this promotion lasts for some time while I ponder

      • +2

As someone with an S23 Ultra, the battery will not disappoint you. Even compared to the S22 Ultra, it's a beast and a huge improvement. Perfect phone

        • I found there is basically no difference in casual use between the s22u and s23u. Definitely not worth the upgrade. Coming from an older model yes but not from the s22u

      • I am using my old pixel 2xl while my fold 3 is being repaired( Samsung repair time is quite long now a days). What I have noticed so far-

        1. Everything works but just loading is slower
        2. 4G Telstra was very slow in royal Adelaide show where my partner's 5G Telstra phone was working great. Probably 5g works better in busy areas
        3. Weirdly I found the pixel 2xl battery life better than the Fold 3.
        4. Pixel 2 is stuck at android 11 and will not get any more

I think last is the biggest reason to upgrade for security updates I guess.

      • I am the same with an S9+ that is starting to age. Mainly in battery. I've also scratched a camera lenses so photos come out blurry. I've had the battery replaced but it's still pretty terrible battery life.

I've ordered an S23 Ultra. I reckon this a good generation to upgrade as Australia is getting the Snapdragon chips in the s23 series, while the next generation is rumoured to return to Exynos chips in Australia. I Also see the S23 series has slightly easier to replace batteries than previous generations. I hope it lasts as long as my S9+ has.

      • Yeah , just for you ….

    • dont forget 4% cash rewards

  • Do you actually trade in the phone??

  • I have never received their $50 signup vouchers

    • +1

Well nowadays when you signup for it
They present you with a code on the screen itself and don’t email the code to you anymore. Atleast that’s what happened with me the last time.

    • +2

Will get a voucher instantly. If your account have used this voucher before you have to use new email address to sign up and check out.

  • S23+ for $784 if I trade in my s21, thoughts on value?

    • +1

use your s21 until it dies.. I'm still using my s10

    • I'm going from S21+ to S23. Decided I want the smaller form factor.

Got the S21+ for $530 odd in May 21. I felt $630 for the S23 is pretty good value.

    • +1

      How are you getting $784 ? for S23+ ?

  • Is there any reason why you need to use the trade up app as opposed to just going through the website?

    • I think the app scans your phone which the website cant do. That way, they can not just sell your phonr but your data as well for twice the trade in credits.

    • No, it works on the website too

I ‘traded in’ my iPhone via the website login and everything went smoothly.

      • I've got basically a bricked iPad at home because it's locked to a corporate account. Is this something they would accept? Or reject almost immediately because they can't login?

        • Well I think with iOS devices, we are meant to factory reset them before sending them through or atleast logout of our Apple ID.
By the extension of that logic, I don’t think it’ll work.

But it’s worth a punt, it’s useless to you anyways isn’t it. I think they’ll charge you around $65 if they don’t end up accepting it. (Assuming the trade in value of an old iPad would probably be $1 anyways, according to their system)

          • +1

@Gervais fanboy: Yeh thats my suspicions. However if its $60 to get the $300 value, i might be better off throwing out an older Fitbit (Charge) to redeem the full value of the offer - even though the iPad is landfill

            • @v00d00 AU: Yup, the fit bit is a great option too..

Just saying, I do know that there’s an industry of people unlocking devices like yours and re sell them.

    • Trade up app lets you trade in headphones, which the site does not

      • +1

I treated my audio device using the website

        • How? I only have Phone, Tablet, Watch as options on the site.

          The app has headphones/earphones

        • Also interested in this @Gervais fanboy, would appreciate details / DM. Thank you.

        • Hey, please DM details how to do this.. cheers

  • Do you need to send in the trade device or not?

  • tell it that the screen is cracked

looks no such option in my app?

    • Tick that it's damaged.

      • Thank you.

Is it in "Wrap up" stage? did not see it in "Grading". Selected physical damage, but still show $90

  • +7

If you're trading in a high value phone, take lots of pictures and even video of the device before mailing it to Asurion to prove its quality. A handful of us are dealing with Asurion charging us a significant mis-grading fee because the device "doesn't match the condition specified" which is rubbish in my case, I feel like I have been robbed and now trying to get my money back from this mob.

    • wait you actually sent in your phone rather than selling it on marketplace for heaps more?

  • that's about it going for year (around that price range)
I never used samsung basic models but love their flagship ones Notes, flip&fold are amazing
I rather go for poco or xiomi phones rather buying their standard range

  • I am more worried about the whole id bit that you need to send to Asurion for the tradin to be complete

    • legit

    • that's okay, its standard process
basically they are matching your ID with stolen or falsely claim phones which is normal
I have done around eight times with watch buds and phones.
as it said somewhere above make sure you take a video before sending your old device back to them.

  • Any chance of getting samsung care added on for less than the $249 they are charging? I've used it twice on my S22 and its been very good.

    • its purely waste of money unless its offered free or half price
they give swap phones the same you have before , same model but refrubrished units
once you start using those refurbished phones you are on grey area
I'ld rather invest in good aftermarket cases

  • Can't work the trade up app.. Can't select the address or post code pop up.. Tried it on two phones. Anyone have a solution?

    • +1

Reset the accessibility settings in the phone. Should be able to select address then

    • Use the Samsung website. the app wouldn't accept my IMEI, but on the website no probs.

  • Is this the best deal so far? Has there been a better deal previously?

  • How long does it take for them to send the loyalty voucher??

    • Much quicker to just give them a call

    • I emailed. And they emailed me back anout 2 hour later, asking for my phone number so they could call me.

I gave my number via email, they rang me within 30 min.

Then the dude took aggggges to read out the code.

Then said at the "I'll also email you the code"

So easier to just call up?

      • +1

I'm not a good talker, I get anxiety when talking to a human

        • +3

You got this. Script for loyalty code via phonecall:

Step 1: Confirm name and email details as requested at start of call.

Step 2: "Give me 10% loyalty voucher please via email"

          Step 3: "Thenkyou"

          • @Darwin: If only it was that easy. Called the number in the OP, got given another number to call (1800 137 022). Called that and got told it was wrong, and got given [email protected] as a contact method to ask for it.

            Don't like my chances.

            • @nismoau: Eventually got through and they gave me a code! Thanks OP.
              S23 256GB for $778, pretty decent deal.

      • We emailed and after a couple hours got an email for contact details and best time to call. Then after missing the phonecall, received an email with the loyalty code anyway.

  • +3

S23+ 256gb for $908 with $1 trade in "cracked screen".

Aurison are so dodgy in the past with their bullshit (returned a phone for samsung care swap a while ago and they charged me $1300 for a non return. Took forever to get the charge reversed)

When I completed the trade up info, I used a debit card that I don’t use often. Ive now cancelled that card number with the bank so no chance of funny business from Aurison.

    F YOU Aurison!

    • Oh no.. I don't plan to return the phone..

    • Ive now cancelled that card number with the bank

Sometimes even after you cancel your card, the existing debit arrangements with the merchants will be carried forward on to the new card. Read the contract with Aurison etc. if that's the case

      • I see. I suppose they will try to charge me $60 for me not sending in my trade in S20U with a cracked screen worth $1.

It'll be a few weeks before they try to charge me, so I reckon I'll be in the clear.

        See what happens.

Great deal, I went with the Studentbeans Pixel 7 Pro 10% extra discount and ended up getting the 512gb model for around $1139.

The S23+ 512gb ends up being around that price point but the Pixel 7 pro is better than the S23+ (bar the cursed curved screen on the 7 pro that I hate and slightly brighter screen on S23+).

Going to the S23 ultra 512gb and you end up paying $300+ and you get slightly better screen and processor (no impact in majority of use cases).

    • Don't you get a better camera for the Ultra?

      • Slightly better camera but the software is more optimised on the Pixel 7 pro

        • But Pixel series doesn't have Samsung's "Modes and Routines", which is an amazing automation tools.

          • @andylch: It is a trade off to be honest. Both have their positive and negatives.
On top of that you are also forking out an extra $300.

  • Is there a big price jump from s22 to s23? I got the s22 256gb for $499 during last year's jb trade in sale, I would hold off on this

    • yea me too - i was thinking this isn't that great a deal. I feel like i paid less even for mine s22 256gb.

  • How to get $634.6?
    My price is (1099-300-1)*0.9-50=668.2

  • Trade-up seems to say the S10e (SM-G970F) (Australian) is ineligible.

    • It's there i have one too

      • Okay it works on the website not the app :)

  • +1

Chat to Samsung loyalty team half hour. Final checkout on S23 + 256G $846.10. Trade-in 7years old note for $70

    Awesome deal. Thanks OP

  • As someone who owns this phone … just go for the Pixel 7 on a discount or Pixel 8… no banana gate camera defect on those

    • Banana gate was fixed on last months update

      • Samsung claims they fixed the Bananagate issue, but there are still quite a few people complaining out there about the blurry photos. Would you know if these newer models get an updated hardware (camera) on top of the latest security patch? I just bought a 256gb version today and I really don't want to use my old Galaxy to take photos in my overseas trips.

    • 90hz is yucky. Personal preference.

  • because there isn't the original price of the phone in the OP, i assume 634.60 is the price after $300, $250 and $50 off?

    • +1

      Yep

      • ok but not great.

        • … it's almost 50% off a great phone!

          • @Droz: … from an ultra inflated price point to begin with

  • +1

still rocking S22U will wait for S24U to get released and go on special I guess? lol

  • I don't get why I have to choose "cracked screen".

    • +1

This reduced the estimated value to $1 so if you dont send the phone you will be charged $1.
Others have pointed out that they have been charged $60 late fee so looks like it will be better to trade up a really old phone and actually send it in.

    • +1

You don't. If you want to trade in it's fine

  • looks like Samsung s23 are all sold out :(

    • Black color only.

  • S23 or Pixel 7?

  • I'm a bit confused, instead of using the app and choose cracked screen for $1, can't I just select the lowest $5 phone and use that??

I don't plan on returning my phone, so will I get charged $60 admin fee?

    • They take a security against the value.

    • Yes, according to the new T&Cs from Asurian, they will charge you the $60 admin fee plus the value of the traded phone if you do not send it in.
