      • I tested this myself. I got a blood test that showed I was deficient. I took 4000IU every day for a couple months and got another blood test and my levels were in the lower healthy range. This was maybe 5 years ago.

        My wife’s neurologist told her to take 4000IU every day. She got a blood test recently and she’s barely in the healthy range now.

        New information shows those old guides only recommended levels to not be dead.

        The levels don’t actually reflect what’s required for optimal health.

        • There’s that, plus also I suspect vitamin manufacturers and others are deliberately super conservative with the recommendations they put on the bottle because D is fat soluble so you can technically take too much and it will build up. If someone sunbakes nude in Cairns all day every day and also takes 5000IU a day they might approach or slightly exceed the maximum healthy range and nobody wants to be sued. If you live in Tasmania as a programmer then you will definitely be deficient even taking 1000IU a day. But you’ll be less deficient than if you didn’t take any, so it’s hard to sue them for that.

    • The thing is you can swallow 4 of these just as easily as you can swallow 1. So I don’t see the point in paying extra for the stronger ones when they cost more per IU anyway. The best value is the 500 pack linked by someone below at CW

    • No it's not, but for some reason people keep posting this instead of Cenovis whenever this is on regular discount. But Chemist Warehouse brand is even cheaper when discounted.

  • Don't get the 1000iu's
    Get the proper 5-10,000 iu one's, they'll get results.

    IMHO these are a waste of time due to the low dosage.

  • If we get sick, we take 50000iu/day for 3 days + high strength Vit C daily.
    Works for us.

    General maintenance dose (in winter) for us, is 3000iu/day if we don't get much sun.

    Are people trolling? 10,000iu per day?

    All the info I've read recommends around 800iu per day. 4000+ would be "overdosing"

    • True for daily unless you need it like I did, so GP prescribed me 5000IU daily for a month

        Yes I'm sure there are cases where higher dose might be needed. But people above seems to think anything below 5000 for the average adult is useless? I'd like to see the studies that supports this.

        • In winter in a climate that gets cold, you’ll definitely need more than 1000 per day. I wouldn’t say 1000 IU is useless. It’s obviously more than nothing. Also you can take more than 1 pill, they’re tiny. Buying larger pills for more cost per IU doesn’t make sense when you can easily swallow 4x 1000IU pills just as easily as 1. What matters is the cost per IU

          If you are a surf lifesaver in a tropical climate working year round with your shirt off in the sun, you likely won’t need much if any supplementary D. So it depends on your circumstances.

          Do what I did, get a blood test, then take 4000IU a day for a couple months and get another blood test. Or try slightly less if you’re worried. You’ll see the results for certain

          But it also depends on which expert you ask. Endocrinologists tend to recommend higher levels of vitamin D in the body.

          I don't think there's much evidence the 4000 is harmful.

            @RecklessMonkeys: Yeah my wife’s neurologist said take 4000IU a day every day always. And that was before doing any blood tests to determine her levels. It’s fairly widely considered a good dosage in the newer research. She has since had a blood test and she’s just barely above the minimum healthy range taking 4000 IU a day for some time haha. I did a similar test on myself with a blood test before and after 2 months of daily 4000IU with similar results.

            If anyone is concerned they can take this approach. That way it takes everything about your own personal circumstances into account and shows the factual results.

      If you look at how much your body generates under the Sun for 1 hour you will know 800IU is a joke.

      Look at newer info that shows old guides only looked at things from the perspective of what you need to take to not be dead… lol

      New guidance suggests far more for optimal health.

    Comments about low amounts recommended for Vit D are old guides that were just looking at levels to not be dead. New guidance suggests we need far more than previously used to be advised

      My only concern with buying overseas is that I’ve seen reports of vitamins and other things like that in America frequently not actually containing what’s reported on the label. The dosages are incorrect or in rare cases some ingredients are actually absent or others substituted. It seems that the regulations around our vitamins are much stronger and so they’re more reliable.

      Probably being a bit paranoid with this sort of thing though. Seeing as it’s one cheap ingredient, worst case realistically is maybe they’re slightly underdosed. Which might not matter if the cost per IU is way less. Just take more haha

  • Well I was searching online.it seems d3 might be a bit tricky to absorb. Googling suggested that magnesium with it help absorbtion and the fatty foods also
