160k for a Wedding

Maybe the boomers are right about the younger generation….

This couples, parents have given have offered 25k for his wedding, he is demanding 80k for a 160k Wedding. I'm a millennial but you got to be crazy to spend that on a single day let alone ask someone else to pay for half of it!

For dentistry - looks like a college, not a primary school :)

Why let details get in the way of a good story…

  • +3

Not as crazy as the parent if they do actually fork out for it.
I wonder what the divorce is going to cost him?

The original source is reddit aita, a lot of the content there is fake so it's probably just made up.

Save your energy getting outraged over something that is common, not an outlier.

Unless 100k of that wedding is booth where you can club baby seals.

Don't bite on this sensationalist crap.

Leave it in the trash where it belongs.

$160K weddings are actually not that uncommon. Most of the weddings I've been to over the last few years have easily costed over $100K. Just in case anyone is wondering, I am by no means part of any "rich circle".

But no-one I know has demanded that their parents contribute half.

    • This is in USA.

    • +3

I attended 2 weddings last year (paused due to lockdowns) where the cost ~ $100K. Both were paid for by the parents - it's customary within each culture.

I actually like the ostentatious show - everything is OTT - & although I didn't care much for what seemed like 100 videographers, where at least one was always in your face, it's fun to see the different traditional aspects play out.

I thought getting outraged on ship posted on news.com.au was a thing reserved for SlavOz?

    • That's a name I haven't read in a while

Somone needs to do it if SlavOz is stuck in the penalty box

            @Trying2SaveABuck:

opposed to the popular opinion left wijg merchant that thrash the comments section daily

like reposting click bait/rage bait news.com and similar articles?
Agreed, there should be less of that….

            • +1

@SBOB: Fair enough, need to take that gun away from your head forcing you to read em and reply to all the comments?

          • +5

            @Trying2SaveABuck:

he had the ability to think independently

Not so sure about that. He had different views from main stream, but i doubt he came up with them himself. Looked more like whatever was posted on <insert conspiracy theory youtube channel here>.

            • +1

@Lord Fart Bucket: He didn't need QAnon or any of that, his views came straight from the good ol' Bible (the "banks are woke because Mardi Gras sponsorship" thread rapidly transmuted into "well we all know where gay lifestyles lead" muttering).

It became somewhat more obvious when in pedophiles everywhere/moral panic threads if and when the church came up, he'd suddenly materialise and say things like "oh everyone says it's the church but I reckon it's teachers how come we don't acknowledge it's the groomers and the left and the teachers yeah"

He was memorable for being vocal and strident, but his ideas were thought up for him a few centuries back.

          • +2

@Trying2SaveABuck: Two trolls in a pod - I can see why you relate.

Enjoy your month in the sin bin.

  • Father of girls - They and their partners will pay for their own weddings, just as i hefted the bill for mine.

OP links some subsidiary of a news.com.au site, which uses Reddit as the source, and even gets the Reddit URL link mixed up with some totally irrelevant post about menstrual periods. Just how hard can someone fail?

Or was the entire article just AI generated in the first place?

WTF, would it be asking the OP too much to put three seconds of thought into it before posting up utter shite?

    • +2

I see you are unfamiliar with OPs posting history

      • +1

Damn. I see what you mean.

Will try to remember to ignore his threads.

"who is the dumb poster everyone, the guy that makes the dumb posts or the people who say "hey stop making dumb posts"?"

Yeah, a philosophical mystery for the ages right there.

Skip the wedding, use the money for a deposit on a house.

  • That article is just today’s version of articles that were in Playboy. It’s all clickbait

    • +1

in the good old playboy days it was called dickbait

Marriage isn't going to last long.

  • +1

There is stupid people in every generation, why attribute something to a generational difference when its much easier to explain with stupidity instead.

  • I would use that 160k for a house deposit lol, it is just a one day and no body cares after that

    • If you can get some powerful people to attend then the networking could pay for itself, if you're a corrupt scumbag.

  • If you're a multimillionaire/billionaire, meh go for your life spending millions, helps stimulate the economy i guess. But when you cant afford sh*t and want to spend that much money on throwing a party, if thats your ABSOLUTE priority when you dont own housing etc, then your marriage wont be lasting too long anyway

  • +1

my wedding costed me like 10k incl the dress

  • It should be alright if they are from rich background and provided they don’t divorce thereafter.

  • $160k is wasteful in anyone’s books.

  • There have always been expensive weddings, it’s nothing new. The number just looks bigger today because of inflation.

Expensive weddings are arguably for the parents/grandparents and about them showing off.
